considered the prime suspect but was later without. she died in prison last year -- was later ruled out. he died in prison last year. all of the evidence has been re-examined with technology that has given them new leads. >> we have a couple of possibilities that we are holding close to our vest. want to make sure that we don't disclose too much to potential suspects. >> she says it's been hard as a mother over all these years, but she says this is a parent's commitment to justice and their daughter. >> it is very hard. you know, but we learn how to manage it, you know. we know it's sad but we also know that we need to find justice for jenny. >> in the south bay, a valley transportation authority

employee was arrested over accusations that he threatened gun violence, authorities say. another employee called the sheriff's office this morning to report the threats at the agency's bus yard. there's a lot of sensitivity about this because it comes just over a year after a disgruntled vta employee shot and killed nine coworkers at the guadalupe railyard. the controversial tenderloin center in san francisco will close at the end of the year. city officials decided not to add additional funding for the center in the new budget. it opened in january as part of mayor london breed's state of emergency initiatives in the tenderloin. abc7news insider fill material -- phil matier says the center has been something in between a success and failure. rent is >>. to keep it operating, it's well over $1 million a month. what we are getting is about 49,000 visits to the center by people, 900 people were put into

shelter as a result of those visits, 53 went into drug treatment and 150 went into permanent housing. >> visitors to the center can receive basic services but the city has been criticized for allowing druggies. -- drug use. >> kids under five are on the cusp of being eligible for a covid-19 vaccine. the fda giving its approval and the cdc expected to sign off on it this weekend. as tara campbell discovered, there is a lot of hesitancy among parents. >> in just a few short days, the youngest of the young will likely be eligible for the covid vaccine. this weekend, the cdc is expected to sign off on the pfizer and moderna shots for children under five. >> pages basically means that almost everyone in this country who wants it can -- it just basically means that almost everyone in this country who wants it kind a vaccine. >> dr. gandhi is a physician. she says only a small fraction of parents are ready.

>> despite declining enrollment, san francisco is going to open another public school and it will be the first in the mission bay neighborhood. a plan has been in the works for years. the city ask for funding through bond measure, then ucsf gifted an empty lot to the school district with transfer officially happening this august. the groundbreaking will take place in october and the school should be open in the fall of 2025. >> i think it's great news and yes, he's a future here, so yay to building a stronger community in the mission bay. >> right now, families who live in the mission bay neighborhood are nearly two miles away from daniel webster elementary and bessie carmichael. the district says when the new school opens, the other schools will not lose students. >> san francisco is gearing up

to commemorate juneteenth with multiple celebrations this weekend. luz pena spoke to an historian about the significance of this holiday and the role san francisco has played throughout the years. luz: over 100 years ago before silicon valley was known for connecting the world as the mecca of tech -- >> a rally for civil rights. luz: this region was influential in the abolitionist movement. >> san francisco was the western hub of the underground railroad. their role was to raise the money, so the money for the radio on harpers ferry came from san francisco. luz: john is known as the historian of black san francisco, an african-american history through the west. on the second year of juneteenth becoming a federal holiday, we sat down with him to speak about its meaning. >> it's the end of the civil war as a result of the courage and bravery of 209,145 troops of

african descent, 25,000 of them were brought into texas beginning in 1863 and they were the ones who had the honor of capturing the last confederate state to surrender. >> this will be san francisco's 72nd years celebrating juneteenth. the city's festival is the largest gathering of african-americans in northern california. >> san francisco was the first place outside of texas to recognize it. luz: tiffany carter is the cofounder of san francisco blackwell street. she grew up going to the fillmore juneteenth celebration. after the festival went virtual in 2020, she decided to start a festival in her neighborhood, the bay view, and hundreds of people showed up. >> it was important for me. it was time for the next generation to kind of put a

stamp on juneteenth. luz: now, there will be two stages and more celebration throughout the city. the juneteenth festival on fillmore street will go back to this, with music, food and entertainment. the one in the bayview at gilman park will celebrate his 30. >> fill out san francisco as much as we can. luz: regardless where you celebrate this weekend, john wants people to understand the significance behind this holiday and to know the role san francisco played over a century ago and today. what is it about juneteenth that people get wrong? >> african-americans not only ended slavery, but they kept the nation together. juneteenth decided that we were one country. luz: in san francisco, luz pena, abc7news. >> oakland has a bunch of juneteenth celebrations going on. the summer town night series took over liberation park tonight for a festival and movie night. it drew a pretty sizable crowd.

there were multiple events tonight throughout the city and more are planned throughout the weekend. now since juneteenth falls on a sunday, the federal holiday will be on monday. that means government offices and the stock market will be closed. most banks will be closed and there will not be any postal delivery. >> it has been two long gears but the alameda county fair is back for the summer. food, games, carnival rides, pig races, the whole deal,, affair has it all. other highlights included nathan's hot dog eating contest, the regional qualifier and the john madden bus. corgicon is returning to ocean beach in san francisco after a three year hiatus because of the pandemic. there should be hundreds of corgis participating in costume contest, races and more, and plenty of corgi merchandise, too. >> we have a very close-knit corgi owner group and we really

black indigenous people of color -- artists that need that support to get an album out or create new work. >> i've always been a singer, and didn't think that i could be a musician because i'm not mariah carey or whitney houston. here i am now. i'm going for the route that i really always wanted to pursue, and there's so many opportunities that i didn't know existed 20 years ago, and so i can do it now, and it's not too late. so it's really cool. >> i've always been into music and stuff, and people have always asked me, "what's your backup plan?" you know? and so it never seemed -- like something that was feasible for me, to go into music or audio or anything like that, especially being an asian girl. >> we're addressing a very dire statistic -- less than 5% of women and gender diverse folks are recording engineers or music producers. ♪♪
