a gallon and stations all across the city are regularly above $5 gallon. t b qstn is, what are e people here in washington ? wellor white house officials tell abc news' maryalice parks, the white house is exploring a number of options. some ideas, a potential gas rebate card sent directly to americans though pretty unlikely due to logistical hurdles and security concerns. but there's been conversations surrounding a possible gas tax holiday. temporarily lifting that federal tax on gas, but that's a move that would have to come from congress. president biden has been focusing big on u.s. oil companies writing a letter to several of them this week accusing them of prolonging the pain at the pump at the expense of soaring profits. biden asking them to increase their supply. now, another idea floating around is for the president to invoke the defense production act in a limited capacity in

order to possibly add to the supply in terms of diesel or oil and this, of course, will be on top of his decision to release millions of barrels of oil from the strategic oil reserves over the past few months. eva, back to you. >> ike, thank you. now to the latest legal battle in the spears family saga and that new court filing thursday by jamie spears, a copy obtained by abc news asking a judge to depose britney. jamie spears alleging he is being defamed by his daughter on social media disputing he forced her into therapy and withheld medication among other things. this just over seven months since the pop superstar's 13-year conservatorship was terminated in november 2021. britney's lawyer ready to fight. he vowed last year to complete, quote, a top to bottom look over what has happened over the past

the struggle to integrate baseball didn't end with him. >> no, i think one of the things that we don't think about a lot is the generation that came after jackie. the african american players who really in many ways were out there on their own, jackie was followed by a lot of press and what he did was incredible, but so many of the other players, bill white, curt flood, the players we talk about in the film really were by themselves. >> what made you want to do this? did you grow up watching baseball? were these your heros? >> yeah, i was at the perfect age, around 10, 11, 12 in the early '60s, the st. louis cardinals of lou brock and curt flood were my heros. they played negro ball. they played fast and stole bases and hit and run and they were just exciting and they played with a lot of flair. >> so let's take a look when the

racially integrated st. louis cardinals, you just mentioned them, bested the predominantly white new york yankees to win the world series back in 1964. check this out. >> we cheered. we grabbed each other. >> this wasn't a celebration where all the white guys were hugging each other and all the black guys were hugging each other. it was everybody hugging each other because they shared the common goal of success in winning a world series. the way things came together with all the other hings going on in this country, it was the one time where everybody felt good about being an american. >> ah, that's what sport also do. at the beginning we heard from bill white, another pioneering player who went on to become the first black president of any major sports league. what surprised you most about his story and telling that? >> one of the great stories bill white told us is that when he was in the minor leagues he was in what's called the carolina leagues and they played in carolina, in the south. he was the only black player in the whole league, and he was by himself. they would drop the white players off at a nice hotel and then they would drive him to the

black community and he would stay in miss sadie's rooming house or wherever he could stay and he had to endure that, but he also had to be a great player at the same time. so he has to -- it's like a double thing that he has to do and he did it and became not only a great player but lived a great life afterwards. >> we're almost out of time but since you grew up as a fan and as an adult made this, what was the most interesting thing for you to learn about? >> really it was in many ways what the players and jackie robinson did after baseball that jackie robinson was really part of the civil rights movement, that curt flood, one of the st. louis cardinals, sued for free agency and changed not only baseball but changed all sports in america. >> so cool. thank you so much for being with us this morning, stanley. appetit" magazine's must make recipes for father's day, the fourth of july and beyond. chris, thank you so much for being with us this morning. we're starting with steak. >> we are. yeah, everybody has a dish or two that define summer cooking and eating. these are two of mine. so now we've got a strip steak with butter sauce and tiny greens -- sorry, we've got tiny greens with bacony bread crumbs. >> what's the secret to getting the steak the temperature you want? >> there's a few things. number one, we like to oil the steak, not the skillet. so when you oil the steak and and not the skillet -- we're going to do the salt and pepper here -- that means there a the skillet to burn and set off your smoke alarm, which is a bummer. >> that happens to me all the time. >> the next thing is we're going to be flipping it every minute

or two, okay, so we're going to do both sides with oil, salt and pepper. lay it into the skillet. flip it every minute or two. you'll get a beautiful crust but it'll be gentler on the steak and going to cook even more evenly. if you don't have a digital thermometer, please get yourself one or get one for somebody that you care about. >> that's like a public service announcement. >> that's a good father's day gift. >> it is. for anybody who loves cooking, dads, you know, non-dads alike. that is the best way of knowing what's happening inside your steak and if it's done. and you have to give it a rest, all right. as much as you want to slice into it right away, if you, you know, give it a rest, let it sit for ten minutes or so before slicing it. it will redistribute the juices, the heat and it's going to be way more -- >> speaking of the juices, let's jump into the sauce. you have an umami sauce. how do we do it? >> we have an umami butter sauce, a base of miso lightly caramelizing and thinning out with a little bit of water, sriracha chili sauce and butter and that is going to mean that we've got loads of umami flavor.

the caramelizing of the miso means you will get great depth of flavor. >> really good. >> just whisk it together. this is better than anything you can get store bought. takes five minutes or less and has five ingredients or less. >> chris, we're almost out of time, but i don't want to skip out on your blt salad. >> so think of this as a blt salad, lettuce, tomato but instead of strips of bacon, crispy bits of bacon we've got with this lovely panko that crisps up in the bacon fat. we'll throw in a little bit of dill in there and then we've got a ranch style dressing, all right, that goes with mayo, buttermilk, a little bit of lemon, dill and a touch of raw garlic, not so much you get kind of garlic fire breath for the rest of the day but deepening the flavor a little bit here.
