is juneteenth? now, we are all celebrating it and happy about it. >> juneteenth became a national holiday in 2021, commemorating the end of slavery in america. >> it means us having a day for us and our people and all of the struggles we have been through. just rejoicing and life getting better. >> all of our clothes are made in an nigeria benefiting local communities. >> it was a time for small business owners to shine. >in oakland, lake merritt was celebrating juneteenth in a big way. richard johnson was talking to his grandson about why the day is so important. >> we need more days like this, you know? because, this is a day where everybody comes out and just let's go, just feels free.

the most senior african-american priest diocese. in 2020 bishop barbara announced the formation of the diocese of oakland racial justice tasks force charged with addressing systemic oppression and racism. since juneteenth falls on a sunday this year, the federal holiday will be tomorrow on monday. this means government offices and in the stock market will be closed and most banks will also be closed and there will not be any postal delivery. in the east to be, two instances of anti-asian graffiti at the same house are being investigated as a hate crime. san leandro leandro police say y somebody vandalized a for-sale sign at the home of with an anti-asian message. this morning the same message was found painted on the home's garage door. investigators say the realtor, property owners, and most recent tenants of the home are all of asian dissent. abc 7 is proud to help celebrate pride all month-end year-round.

san francisco's 52nd annual pride parade is next sunday. abc7news spoke with interim executive director suzanne ford, who explained why this year's celebration is extra special. >> i think the resilience of the lgbtq community in the face of the pandemic will be center stage this year. i mean, the history of the lgbtq community in san francisco is marked with resilience. all the way, the last 52 years. i think that is essential. also just for the city of san francisco, i mean, we are back. you know, this festival is the biggest thing that happens to san francisco for the whole year and is essential to the recovery of the city. >> celebrity grand marshals for the parade include champion -- jeopardy champion amy snyder and actor sherry holland. members of george floyd's family will be marching in the front of the parade. abc 7 is proud to be a sponsor

a new development in the case of a stolen custom bike belonging to a nine-year-old boy. he is riding high again. >> surprise! do you like that? is that cool or what? >> the moment is so precious. the warriors seem bike was discovered missing last month from the family garage in san francisco. the bike became a family project with benny designing it since he was three years old. he has won several awards for it. when the warriors learned the bike was stolen they asked the san francisco bull rider council to build benny a new one. benny got his new bike today.
