breaking news and that breaking news is out of san mateo county where moving wildfire has forced to evacuations near redwood city. the fire has now burned 20 acres in his burning near edgewood road and crestview drive. it is not that far from 280. the smoke is visible to drivers and is causing a bit of a slowdown on the freeway. cal fire says there is a second fire in the area, but it is contained we've seen firefighters throwing everything they can at the flames from sky seven that includes a plane dropping retardant and a helicopter doing water drops as well. are some power lines in the area we did see some poles that appear to be singed by the flames. we have not heard though, if anyone has been hurt our abc 7 news reporter amanda delka. castillo is now on the scene. she joins us live with the latest amanda.

yeah that air fight audible from where we're standing at this hour we're here along rocky way and eastview way where there's a lot of activity. it is very busy. very hot out here now in the last few minutes we saw first responders leave this ambulance behind me with a stretcher heading toward that activity when i stopped cal fire to ask if any firefighter had been injured. i was told that they could not confirm nor comment on that, but we do know that there is going to be a media briefing at about 5:30 this afternoon. now plenty of people agencies on scene. we're seeing one side fire. we're seeing ambulance paramedics as sheriffs as well with san mateo county now when we got out here a lot of the roads were just filled with residents who are coming out looking maybe preparing their cars ready for that evacuations. we know that some parts of this specific neighborhood have been evacuated most of it is without

power at this hour. it's affecting not only this neighborhood, but of the stanford campus as well people who we spoke with are all pointing to a nearby pg&e substation saying hours ago. they heard what they described as a major explosion and then saw some smoke coming from that specific area that seeing a cloud is what they described and we did connect with one resident who lives right on the edge of that nature preserve and this is what she had to say. well evacuating. oh, it's a huge bank. huge bang and and then i just didn't really understand it in my neighbor called and said, you know get fudgy if he's up on you know, get pudgy you might have to evacuate. yeah, she said that this incident really explained to her and it really made very clear what was important because she had to evacuate in just a matter of minutes now residents. we spoke with just in this area

east bay and just under 200 in san francisco and 118 in the south bay such a hot day and we continue to keep tabs on this fire as you see a helicopter going overhead cal fire helic. after this is in the edgewood area of san mateo we continue to watch for this and we have our amanda del castillo on the ground there so we will bring you more updates as the evening and afternoon continues. yeah and alma while you're talking about the power outages stanford university has now sent out a message that the power outage is affecting their campus and that they're unlimited backup power which is in use but then if this outage continues card access right for doors may power down and there could be other implications. so we'll continue to follow that but yeah stanford university putting that information out right now about the outage affecting its campus. and also, you know sandia was mentioning some places like the east bay like livermore and brentwood topped out at 105

degrees just as super scorcher today abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley joins his life from walnut creek with the latest on the heat leslie. well, you know, there's a little bit of a breeze blowing through right now. you think that would be good news, but when it's 102 in the shade here doesn't help a lot. we're still expecting the temperature to pop up a little bit here in the next hour or so. i can tell you driving around in the car. the ac just doesn't keep pace with the heat everywhere. so we're doing our best to stay cool and hydrated out here as our many people in the east bay. the good news is this is a one-day heat event from what i'm hearing the city of walnut creek for instance said they didn't open any cooling centers today since this was just for one day still it's dangerous heat. a kindergarten aged group of day campers frolicked about lafayette reservoir late morning with camp counselors laser

focused on keeping them hydrated. definitely we're gonna you know, we have spray bottles the drinking taking a lot of water breaks taking lot of time in the shade. we may kind of shorten our activities. so we do maybe a 40 minute period of fishing, but maybe we'll shorten it's like, you know, 20 minutes by noon before the temperatures really soared this group boarded a bus bound for a swimming pool the perfect place for a really hot day 104. down on the tri-valley area one livermore air conditioning company says they're swamped with calls for repairs as people struggle with the heat with one tech trying to respond to 19 calls for service break ers cool enough that can include baby birds. this is baby bird season, and some people may find the fledglings on the ground some fledgling birds, like swallows

lake merritts visitors don't want that the council decided to hold off on making a decision until today. alex wolf lives across the lake. it's really just i think an embodiment of a deeper issue that's happening in oakland. and right now parking along the lake is free adding parking meters to this area. i could take the city months and cost about 250,000 some residents. tell me that's not a good use of resources. we really pay taxes to keep up the park tape the streets additional parking meter is really a big hit on our budget in proposal points to parking meters as a way to improve traffic flow and prevent people from double parking dennis irby drives to the lake to exercise five times a week. he says instead of charging visitors the city should address the need for housing with many parked on the streets for days people come here. they park for two three four five six day, maybe weeks they think that by adding meters is

going to help stop the people. from illegal parking. that's not gonna stop if he goes through the city could use the parking meter revenue to help black vendors and offset financial disparities by low-income residents who want to park at the lake in oakland loose pena abc 7 news. after the the break a multi-miln dollar lawsuit filed over the deaths of two young boys why the boys biological family members say the state and the boys adopted parents are to blame for their deaths.

a lawsuit has been filed in the case of two young brothers who were killed while the care of their adoptive parents carina nova joins us with the lawsuit announced today by the logical family at a san francisco news conference karina today the biological family of the little boys announced their 40 million dollar lawsuit against the state of california kern county human services and the adoptive parents who are now charged with murder now, let me give you some background. these are the young brothers born as sincere in classic pettis now known as orin and orson west in 2016, kern county took the boys away from their birth mother ryan dean and they were adopted by trezelle and and west the west reported the missing in 2020 and in march of this year the west swore arrested in bakersfield for their murder in today's press

conference the boys biological mother grandmother and their lawyer. they detailed their lawsuit saying the state and county unlawfully took the boys from their mother and did not follow the federal mandate to try to unify the family and place them with the grandmother. i didn't deserve this. i'm not a criminal. i don't have the bad record. i don't have a record at all. so for me to take my child to the hospital. being responsible parent and to lose my child. and for my second child to be born into it and for me to take him home for a week and lose him. it hurts. why? why kern county? what was the purpose of not giving them to me? when my house was approved to have them. i'm the grandmother. what makes them think that?

a foster family was better. than their own family. what makes them think that i have no idea. the voice bodies have not yet it's murder trial is scheduled for july. i reached out to the california department of social services and to the kern county department of human services. kern county says they cannot comment on the civil case because of a gag order in the california department of social services says they're unable to comment on this litigation kristen heartbreaking to hear from the biological mother karina. she referenced the boy first one and then the other being taken away from her, but why why were they taken from her in the first place? yeah, the stances are complicated like many of these situations their lawyer says it happened after their birth. mom took the older brother to the hospital with an injury in 2016 according to the lawsuit of hospital staff member believed the boy was being abused and that's when kern county deemed the home unsafe the younger
