here is a live look from the exploratorium camera. the record heat of yesterday, it will recede. yesterday, we were all in the upper 90's oregon triple digit heat -- or in triple digit heat. around the bay shoreline, instead of the mid and upper 90's like yesterday, it will go into the mid 80's. warm along the bay shoreline. a heat advisory in effect for solano county until 10:00 p.m. today for the risk of heat-related illnesses. some of the hottest temperatures will be found here. we will take a closer look in about eight minutes. >> we have breaking news in the south bay. there is a large police presence in san jose in the area monterey road and roundtable road. ryan: good morning. just over my shoulder, you can see a shell gas station. you might be able to make out

some of those gas station numbers. there is a road right before that, roundtable drive, that is drawing most of the attention from police this morning. that road is pretty much blocked off or close to it. there is a series of cop cars not letting anybody through. just ahead of us, wear these two gas stations are, where a lot of police officers are stationed, a lot of unrecovered police detective cars are also stationed here. we are getting confusing reports about what actually is going on. we have not heard from san jose police about this specific situation. we still have not confirmed exactly what it is that is drawing this very large police presence. what we can tell you is some officers did say to avoid this area pretty much altogether. they are not blocking off traffic on this road but they are saying please avoid this area. they have fire trucks and paramedics on standby. from what they told me, they are

in case anything were to happen. it is an incredibly active situation where police are trying to deter people away from this area to focus in on roundtable drive. we don't know what's going on. they did say this is a very active situation. there is something going on between something on that drive. we don't know quite yet. san jose police did tell us that they will be providing information to us fairly soon about what exactly is going on over there. what we do know is there are dozens of cop cars, dozens of police presence here. they are telling us to stay as far back as we possibly can because they do not want us to get hurt. still a lot of information unclear. what we can tell you is there something very active going on. for now, live in san jose, i am ryan curry, abc 7 news. >> thank you. in just the past few seconds, san jose police department did send out a tweeet with a lot more information.

it says that they are patrolling special operations are at the scene because of a barricaded suspect. they say the preliminary info is that the suspect was responsible for a homicide yesterday. they say the suspect fired a gun at officers during a pursuit. ryan will gather more information and we will continue to look to see what police are saying this morning. it does look like there is a barricaded homicide suspect who has fired, at point, toward police. we want to get you updated on what fire crews are doing. they spent the night monitoring a wildfire that forced evacuations in san mateo county. mandatory evacuation orders were lifted last night. it started yesterday afternoon in the edgewood park area and has grown to 20 acres. the smoke visible from interstate 280 and that caused some slowdowns on the freeway. one firefighter was hurt. we do not know their condition.

a woman says she heard something right around the time the fire started. >> oh, it was a huge bang, huge bang. i just did not really understand, and then my neighbor called and said, you know, get pudgy. you might have to evacuate. >> the fire is 5% contained. the causes under investigation. >> pg&e crews worked throughout the night to restore power to thousands of people in san mateo county. look at this map. at one point, the outage impacted as many as 9000 customers, mostly those near the fire zone. these are the areas that still do not have power. pg&e says it is hoping to have power back on anywhere from 6:00 this morning to noon at the very latest. stanford university is also suffering from a very severe power outage as a result of this. the university says pg&e has not given them an estimated time for it to be fixed. summer classes and camps are

canceled for today. >> governor newsom says calfire is taking aggressive action to safeguard communities against wildfires. stations are fully staffed, trained, they are operating 24 hours a day. there's also new equipment, including 64 fire engines for northern california, 16 engines for southern california and 16 new aircraft that will be ready by july 1. calfire has completed fire prevention work on more than 110,000 acres. >> time now is 5:06. a commuter alert in the east bay. if you're taking part, you could face some delays. the agency's single tracking between concord and pleasant hill after a partial train derailment. bart officials are blaming the heat. >> he was just trying to get his kids took their mom so he could get to work in san francisco. >> the train started shaking violently, then they came to a

sudden stop. the conductor got up, walked to the back. he was up telling ever to evacuate. >> davis was on bart with his two kids when the back two cars of the san francisco train derailed. it was likely due to the heat. >> heat can manipulate tracks. >> a bar spokeswoman -- bart spokeswoman says the heat caused the rail to curve, forcing the last two cars to derail. >> i am on that train. we definitely derailed. i am in the back. we've got some smoke. >> an off-duty train operator was riding in the last car. passengers were able to evacuate three chain fence. she was one of them. >> i've never felt that before. i am like, well, maybe a tree branch, or you know, something like that, but it kept going. even though i was scared, i just

like, ok, lord jesus, get us home. >> there were 50 passengers on the train. all were able to evacuate safely. five or six were treated for minor injuries. >> public hearings in the january 6 attack on the u.s. capitol resume tomorrow. yesterday, the house committee investigating laid out more evidence about former president trump's role in the attack. it was testimony from mr. trump's daughter, ivanka. >> there are questions about you ivanka trump's sworn testimony. ivanka told the committee should believed former attorney general bill barr when he said that there was no election fraud. but according to the new york times, nine days after that statement from barr, ivanka was recorded in an interview for a documentary expressing a different view. she >> should continue fighting -- she endorsed the idea that he

should continue fighting. >> part of the documentary has been turned over to the committee. we heard from arizona's republican speaker of the house, rusty bowers. he testified president trump and rudy giuliani pressured him to convene a special session of the state legislature to approve fake collectors for trump. he refused to do so. the next hearing is on thursday and is expected to focus on president trump' attempts to use the justice department to investigate and overthrow the election. >> for the first time, children under the age of five are receiving their first round of the covid-19 vaccine. the santa clara county fairgrounds ready for families yesterday, start with pfizer and moderna shots, along with colorful decorations. eager parents stopped in throughout the day, including little burt and his dad. >> it's been a very long time since we did a lot of what people consider normal things, and the saying has always been that once the vaccines get here, that the pandemic will be over. for burt, today is the day that

decades, president biden is expected to formally call on congress to suspend the federal gas tax temporarily. the move would save drivers about $.18 per gallon and $.24 per gallon for diesel. but the white house needs approval from congress and that's considered unlikely, even some democrats dismissed the ideas too little, too late. steny hoyer saying i just don't know that it gives much relief. >> it does nothing as far as supplying the consumer with more energy, which is what the world is looking for at the moment. >> money from the gas tax helps pay for road repairs and mass transit projects, but the white house insists that money could come from elsewhere. pres. biden: there's not going to be an impact on major road construction and major repairs. >> days after the white house sent a letter to big oil executives blasting them for enjoying record profits while keeping supplies low, chevron's ceo responded yesterday, saying the white house has largely sought to criticize and at times

but still warm. we will go into the mid and upper 90's. along the bay shoreline yesterday, we were in the upper 90's to the lower 100s. we are making baby steps in the right direction. into the city, it will feel cooler but it's still a one-day. mid-seventies for san francisco -- a warm day. mid-seventies for san francisco. temperatures in the 50's and 60's as we go into thursday. what we are watching, high clouds will stream in here later on today, some moisture from the south. it's trying to spark a shower in monterey county. if we do see one pop-up, it could come with dry lightning. for us in the bay area, i think we are going to miss any storm chance, but we will feel that humidity increased dew points, which measure how much moisture is in the atmosphere. tomorrow, we will get into the 50's. warm to hot today, morning fog, more humid tomorrow. we will start to cool off a little bit on friday. over the weekend, we will stay in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

active scene throughout the morning as crews have slowly been coming in to help with the situation. it's just over my shoulder is that shell gas station, that's where the start of roundtable drive is. and that's where, that area is drawing pretty much all of the attention from police this morning. that's where we believe the suspect is barricaded somewhere down that road. it happened early in the morning during a police chase when they believe the suspect, as you mentioned, who was involved in a homicide yesterday, got into a pursuit with police officers, apparently fired on police officers during said pursuit, and now we are at the situation were that suspect has barricaded here in san jose. they have been telling us all morning to try to stay a good distance away from this road because it is very active. one officer told us that person has a rifle and it is still a very unstable scene going down there. they are trying to get everything resolved safely. in the meantime, they want to

us to stay as clear away as possible. they told us to clear away immediately because they want these areas designated as medical safety areas in case anyone were to get injured. this suspect did fire on police officers already, so we know this person is armed and dangerous. they want us to stay a good distance. they have paramedics and fire crews on standby just in case anything were to happen. but as this morning has gone on, we have received those updates about this person being a barricaded suspect involved in a homicide. we are still waiting on this person to hopefully come out and have this whole situation resolved safely. but in the meantime, we are still waiting for any new updates. as we get those updates, we will provide you with that information. again, still a very active scene here. we are seeing more firetrucks and paramedics roll up as we speak, just because this situation, they want this to be

resolved safely and have no one get hurt. in case anyone does get her, they want people here just in case anything were to happen. live in san jose, we will keep you updated, i am ryan curry. >> we will continue to check in with you. we are going to talk about the heat that all of us have been enduring. >> good morning. yesterday, we had record heat, some of the hottest temperatures in nearly two years. today, that record heat is receding but we are still going to track a pretty warm to hot afternoon by june standards. most of us waking up to the 60's if not the 70's so we hung on to some of that warm air last night. a live look at the camera showing you partly cloudy skies from this vantage point. today, it's not as hot as yesterday but it is still a warm day. instead of triple digit heat inland, we will go into the 90's. the coast is mild in the 70's. a heat advisory in effect for solano county until 10:00 p.m. today.

close to 100 degrees here. we will take a closer look at how hot you get later today and more humid weather. >> this is a heads-up up for east bay commuters, prepare for delays on bart. trains are single tracking between the concorde and pleasant hill stations after a partial train derailment. officials are blaming the heat on this. >> yes. crews worked through the night trying to fix this problem. officials say the heat caused a rail to buckle or bend, which caused two cars to derail last night. 50 people were on the train at the time. they were all able to evacuate safely. 6 people were treated for minor injuries. one big point man was on the train with his -- one bay pointe man was on the train with his children. >> the conductor got out, walked to the back of the train, and then when he was coming forward, he was telling everyone to evacuate. >> again, while crews worked to fix the track, bart is

singletrack in between concord and pleasant hill stations. give yourself extra time for the commute. the richmond line is down as well so this is not a great morning for bar commuters. >> as the california high-speed rail faces an uncertain future, officials are finalizing plans for a major section of tracks the high-speed rail authority has published into environmental impact report, with a stretch from san francisco to san jose. if this is approved by the agency's board of directors in august, the project will be environmentally cleared from san francisco all the way to l.a. it is still unclear at this point if there is even funding. state lawmakers are debating whether to allocate the rest of the bonds for the project. at least two cities along the peninsula are threatening lawsuits to stop the train. >> the faa investigating a fiery plane crash in miami that left three people hurt. the airline is based in the dominican republic. officials say the landing gear

collapsed when the plane landed. it is not clear if that is what caused the fire. crews were able to put the fire out. passengers had to be bussed to the terminal. the three people who were hurt are expected to be ok. >> a devastating earthquake has rocked a remote corner of afghanistan, killing at least 1000 people. we know hundreds of other people are injured. this video shows just the urgent rush to evacuate people into helicopters. usgs says this magnitude 59 earthquake struck just before 7:00 p.m., which is the time in afghanistan. this is now afghanistan's deadliest earthquake in two decades. . >> now to the investigation into the>> uvalde school shooting on the scathing rebuke of the police response. one official calling it an "abject failure." here's mona kosar abdi. >> the uvalde texas city council

has voted to deny pete arredondo a leave of absence. >> and make a motion we do not grant a leave of absence. >> the crowd cheering the decision. pete arredondo, in addition to his or on the city council, is the uvalde school police chief under scrutiny for the delay police response to the shooting. he has not attended any city council meetings in the 4 weeks since the massacre. he also had no comment yesterday after testifying for five hours in a closed-door hearing about the massacre investigation. during public testimony in the texas senate, steven mccraw, the state's director of public safety, blamed pr donda for the delayed response that it -- blamed pete arredondo for the delayed response that day. mike ross says are a donda -- mccraw says pete arredondo ordered officers not to breach the door. >> the officers had weapons, the
