announcer: now from abc 7, live breaking news. kumasi: that breaking news right now is a standoff in san jose. police surrounding a suspect they say is wanted for murder. >> a dramatic chase ended here in the southern part of the city. julian: -- kumasi: our reporter has been there all morning long. what information are we getting at this hour? >> good morning. moments ago, we saw a series of police cruisers leave this area to go around the corner. i'm not exactly sure where they are trying to go, but they are still externally active here. this area is still completely blocked off. this road is open toff i thesas s open to the public to use, but round table drive is right in front of that shell are

starting to block off. i took a little walk down there of moment ago to see it anything. it seems the activity is way toward the end of that street. i did see a large swat truck and a series of other police cruisers all the way toward the end of that street. that appears to be where that situation is and that appears to be where the suspect is barricaded. we want to show you some social media video here, if we can, that showed the pursuit that we had earlier this morning. if you sent us this video. we are seeing this large pursuit early this morning, right before it happened. they started the barricade at the home complex on roundtable drive, following this pursuit. what we do know is that this pursuit happened following a homicide, where this person is a -- is apparently a suspect yesterday, and some more incidents as well.

during that pursuit, the officer -- the suspect fired officers, and we were told earlier that the person has a rifle and they are armed and dangerous. we are trying to stay back as far as we possibly can. the situation is very active. we did see other crews here with rifles, other swat teams with equipment now going down. that gives you a good look at what this pursuit was like early this morning. again, we are trying to get you information as we learn it. we are waiting for another update from the san jose police department. what we can tell you is the situation appears to be pretty much the same. we did see a series of police cruisers leave the area to go around the corner. there might be movement in the situation. we will keep you posted as best as possible. what we do know is all the activity seems to be further down on roundtable drive for now. reggie: certainly hoping for a peaceful resolution. thank you. we are posting the very latest at abc7news.com. kumasi: now to get a check on

our forecast after that really hot day yesterday. drew: temperatures were the hottest we have seen in nearly two years. that record heat is receiving today, but is still a hot afternoon. a lot of us waking up in the 60's, if not 70's. the morning from the exploratorium camera. triple digit heat, going 90's inland. it is a warm to hot afternoon for a lot of us. instead of the 90's along the bay shoreline, 70's and 80's along the coastline. a heat advisor in effect for solano county. we will take a look at how long -- and how hot you get, coming up later today. first, let's check in with jobina. jobina: good morning. thank you. we are going to get everyone up today -- up-to-date for bart writers. -- riders. this is because of a partial train derailment. crews worked through the night

to try to fix this problem. bart said it writers are taking the stations between concord and station hill, it could take up to 15 minutes. the heat caused a rail to buckle or bend, causing two cars to derail last night. reggie: thank you. fire crews spent the night monitoring a wildfire that forced evacuations in san mateo county. mandatory evacuation orders were lifted last night, so that is the good news for residents. this started before 2:30 yesterday afternoon in the edgewood park area. it has grown to 20 acres. the smoke was visible from 280 and it caused some slowdowns on the freeway. one firefighter was hurt. there is no word on their condition. we did speak to a woman who says she heard something right around the time the fire started. >> it was a huge bang. a huge bang. i just didn't really understand

it, then my neighbor called and said, "get pudgy, you might have to evacuate." reggie: the fire is 5% contained and the causes under investigation. kumasi: pg&e crews worked throughout the night to restore power to many customers, up to 9000 affected near the fire zone. you can see the areas that still don't have power on this map. pg&e says it is hoping to have power back on for everyone anywhere from now to noon, at the very latest. stanford university is also suffering from severe power outages as a result of this. pg&e hasn't given them a time for a fix. summer classes and camps are canceled for today and the school is hoping to give an update at 10:00 this morning. reggie: governor newsom says cal fire is taking aggressive actions to save communities against wildfires. the staff is trained and

operating 24 hours a day. there is also new equipment, including 64 new fire engines for northern california, 16 new engines for southern california, and 16 new aircraft ready by july 1. have also completed fire prevention work on more than 110 acres, exceeding their goal by more than 11,000 acres. kumasi: hearings for the january 6 on the capitol continues tomorrow. we know this was testimony from mr. trump's daughter ivanka that made the biggest headlines. jobina: there are questions about ivanka trump's testimony. she said she believed bill barr when he said there was no election fraud. but nine days after that statement from bill barr, ivanka was recorded for a document or he called " expressing a different view." >> she endorsed the idea that he

reggie: we are going to check back on our breaking news, a police standoff with a murder suspect. you can see the scene right now it's in has a. police were telling us they were pursuing a murder suspect and that suspect, according to police, fire toward officers. the suspect is barricaded inside a home. we know, according to police, shots were fired into the neighborhood. that's why there was a partial evacuation of the neighborhood. we are continuing to follow that. as we get more information, we will let you know. time now is 6:16. defense attorneys are expected to continue closing arguments today. yesterday, this man was an accomplice in fraud with elizabeth holmes. his attorneys painted him as a

jose. we are seeing this brand-new video from a few were. that is the start of what we know. kumasi: the chase ended with a standoff at a home near monterey road. this is sky 7 of in the area, where there is a really huge police presence. reggie: here is a better look at what's happening. this is in the southern part of san jose. kumasi: ryan curry is joining us live. we are learning that this is becoming a really complex situation for police. ryan: good morning. we were able to move closer to the scene to give you a better look at where we are at. we have relocated to the start of roundtable drive to hopefully give you a closer look. the problem is, we are still very far away from the actual situation itself. the only people we believe are allowed into roundtable driver now our close neighbors of this area or people who live on the street. other than that, it is pretty much blocked off. there is a series of swot crews and other police units down

there, trying to get the suspect out and hopefully lead to this being a safely resolved situation, with no one being hurt. what we did hear about 10 to 15 minutes ago is one very large, loud bang. we don't know what that was or what really happened in that situation, what we did learn that that did happen. we also learned that they do have a robot with them on hand. we are not sure what their plan is with that, but we do know they have equipment and a lot of tools with them. hopefully, they will resolve this and get the suspect apprehended in a safe fashion. the police tweeted out this morning that the suspect is involved in a homicide yesterday here in san jose. this person we saw on social media video being in a pursuit with police officers, and they did tell us this person was in a pursuit that involved firing at the officers. now, we are at this barricaded situation. we did speak with an officer

yesterday were the warmest in about two years, from south bay to the east bay. 90's in triple digits yesterday. this morning, it is mild out there, 60's, if not 70's. we are seeing a warm to hot afternoon. not nearly as hot as yesterday. the triple digit heat is gone, but still 90's in lynn today, 80's along the shoreline, 70's along the coast. it is another hot day for june standards. we will take a look at how warm we get this afternoon, and just a few minutes. kumasi: has africa meters, you need to get ready for delays on bart. between the concord and pleasant hill stations, there was a partial durham in. they are blaming the heat for this. jobina: crews worked through the night trying to fix this problem. the heat caused a rail to buckle or bend, which caused two cars to derail last night. 50 people were on the train at the time. they were all able to evacuate safely. six people were treated for minor injuries. one man was on the train with his children. >> the train started shaking

violently, then it came to a sudden stop. the conductor got out, walked to the back of the train. then, when he was coming forward, he was telling everyone to evacuate. jobina: again, while crews worked to fix the truck, you will want to give yourself plenty of extra time for your commute. reggie: as the california high-speed rail faces an uncertain future, officials are finalizing plans for a major section of track. according to the examiner, high-speed rail authority has published its of our mental impact report from san francisco to san jose. if it is approved by the agency's brute -- board of directors in august, the project will be environmentally clear from san francisco all the way to los angeles county. there is a big but, and that is, but it is unclear if there is even funding. they are debating whether to allocate the rest of the funds

bipartisan breakthrough. reporter: the agreement coming after a group of 20 senators, 10 from both parties, spent a week behind closed doors. the bill includes enhanced background checks for gun buyers under the age of 21. it closes loopholes to prevent people convicted of domestic violence from owning guns. and it provides $15 billion in funding for states to implement programs aimed at addressing gun violence and bolstering school security and mental health. not in the plan, a so-called red flag warning that could prevent dangerous or troubled individuals from getting guns. but texas senator john cornyn argues this plan will allow states to decide on their own regulations. >> this grant program will give every state funding that implements programs that they themselves have adopted to stop individuals in crisis from reaching the point of violence or self-harm. reporter: senate minority leader mitch mcconnell vowing to support the bill, saying for years the left claim congress

we want to check in on the breaking news we have been following all morning. we are looking live right now at sky 7, which is overhead of an ongoing police standoff with a murder suspect. this is been dorf drive in the southern part of san jose. you can't really get the details of what's going on. we know there is a significant police presence and it has been that way for hours now. tt this person is barricaded inside this area and they have told some people to evacuate because of shots being fired by this suspect during the situation. police are telling us they were shooting at officers and is considered to be armed and dangerous, connected to a homicide investigation from yesterday. if you are in this area or going to this area, don't. officers are telling us to let you all note to avoid this area. this is monterey road and

female. i'm going to ask you guys to contact modesto pd. after committing the homicide in modesto, he drove back here to san jose. at that point, we knew who he was and what vehicle he was in. our airship pick him up a few mitts after 11 p.m. on the highway in the area of 101. chp responded and provided some assistance in the pursuit. we reassumed the pursuit once it reached city surface streets again. that pursuit lasted approximately one hour. the suspect ended up here in the residential area that you see behind us. he abandoned the vehicle and fled into the backyard of residents on bindorf drive, where he is currently barricade. during this, he has fired several rounds at officers, at personnel here on scene.

obviously, we want to end this peacefully. we have a big contingent of our special operations personnel here. we are going to be here until this is resolved. any questions? >> any information about this man? does he live in the city? >> we don't know what his association to this residence is yet. >> have you identified the connection with the unfortunate people of the homicide? >> yes, they are certainly someone known to each other, obviously a very fresh investigation, just happened last night. as the day goes on and we can release more information, we will let you guys know. >> who does he know around here? >> i have no idea. >> just to confirm, how many people is this man suspected of killing? >> as of right now, two. an adult male here and an adult female in modesto. >> we don't know if this person
