coastline. in the 50's, it is cooler this morning compared to this time yesterday. novato at 48. mild inland. 60, fremont. 59 currently in san mateo. let's go outside. here is a live look. stars over the city right now. today will shape up similar to yesterday. fog in the morning. sunshine for the afternoon. 70's and 80's at the shoreline. 90's inland. we will take a closer look at the temperatures and show you the weekend forecast in about eight minutes. kumasi: firefighters are watching hotspots this morning, after not one, two, but five of fires that broke out across the bay area yesterday. and air is a look at how widespread the fires are. flames burning south of livermore to vacaville, but the good news is firefighters have

gotten the upper hand out for the fires. reggie: the one remaining active fire is the biggest, the tesla incident fire is in a remote area east of livermore and the altamont pass. it is at 300 acres with 10% containment. firefighters are at the scene. they were aggressively working to get it fully contained overnight. kumasi: in all of the fires, the fire crews were quick to jump into attack mode. no homes were damaged, but evacuation orders were in place for hours. ryan, we know that families were not allowed home until really late last night due to this fire. ryan: but they were eventually allowed to return. but it was a scary day in this section of the lower east bay. we are near a gated community near the fire in sunol that forced evacuations. but the good news is many people are back in their homes, thank

tos fire started -- thanks to fire crews. calfire says that this started as a structure fire before turning into the hillsides. they stopped forward progress of the fire in couple hours later. they are still working towards full containment. right now it is at 10% contained. those evacuation orders are now lifted. and the forward progress has been stopped. it was nerve-racking for residents, some of them rushing to leave. >> i was coming home from fremont with another, with two other girls, and as we were coming through niles canyon we saw the smoke and it looked like it was by our house, so i said step on it. we came as fast as we could. then we saw it was probably up in the ridge. ryan: about 450 homes were evacuated, but again those people are now allowed back to their homes, i am sure they are

safely enjoying a peaceful morning now. the sheriff's office said the winds yesterday and the way the terrain was, made it difficult for the emergency crews. but anybody who was threatened, any home threatened, ended up not having to be damaged o di --be damaged or did not end up damaged. surprising for how fast it was spreading. reggie: evacuation in costa -- the firefighters estopped flames from reaching homes. it is 50% contained now. as tim tells us, firefighters have remained at the scene throughout the night. >> we are very lucky. >> relief and gratitude for many poor costa residents, after a fire broke out nearby.

state of georgia. >> it claims that the investigations have "identified significant concerns that may have impacted the outcome of the election in multiple states, including the state of georgia. go jobina: the committee named six republican members of congress who they say asked for presidential pardons, including congressman matt gaetz, will brooks, willie gomer, andy biggs and scott perry. last night the chairman of the committee said he can prove those requests were made. the next public hearing on the capital attack is expected to be the week of july 11. reggie: state lawmakers have just approved a bill protecting abortion providers inpatient -- and patients. it comes ahead of a decision that could overturn roe v. wade. the bill protects and prevents civil lawsuits from outside the state from being enforced in california. it comes in response to states that have made it possible for private citizens to sue anyone

that helps a woman obtained abortion. that bill will go into effect immediately after the governor signs it. police need help identifying a driver that hit and killed a driver that was cycling with his kids. we will show you the video. you can see the family on their bicycles. they begin to cross the street when a four-door black infinity goes speeding through the sidewalk, hitting the father. the father was deaf and could not hear the car approaching. >> it was safe for them to be bicycling, despite them being deaf. this is an issue of somebody's callousness and disregard for human life. and driving at a speed that is inappropriate anywhere in our city, but also inappropriate in this area downtown where we know the speed limits are much lower. reggie: police say it happened

around 8:30 a.m. june 16, there is now a $10,000 reward for information in that case. kumasi: in the north bay, a fire prevention effort is continuing. dozens of acres are being burned to create a fire break, and it is also training for more than 100 new firefighters who might be needed in the summer. >> california is a beautiful place. i want to be part of a group that protects land, structures -- that is one of my motivations. >> we are helping our community by lowering the fuel amount that we have. and helping the firefighters develop new skills. kumasi: firefighters essay the goal's degree enough defensive space to protect the community if a wildfire breaks out. drew: higher fire danger inland today as temperatures go back into the 90's.

get more with nature's bounty jelly beans. reggie: officials say the first case of monkeypox has made its way to santa clara county. they are waiting for cdc confirmation. our reporter tells us how experts say the risk to the overall community is still low. reporter: investigating its first probable case of monkeypox infections, the person recently traveled internationally, then sought medical care. in and early test, tested positive. >> the confirmation is pending at the cdc. at the cdc. the individual is in isolation. and the public health department is following up with people,

with whom the individual may have had contact with. reporter: it is close contact that presents concerns says dr. roy with the public health department. health experts say three groups at higher risk include people having prolonged close contact with somebody who is infected. those with a history of international travel, especially to countries with monkeypox. in the third. >> regionally, those who identify as gay, trans, or men who have sex with men are part of that group, where we have been seeing a disproportionate number of cases. reporter: with pride weekend events ahead, the doctor says bay area counties are working together on messaging to make the public aware. after more than two years under covid-19, stanford health's dr. salinas says two global outbreaks of infections happening back to back is not common. bu he ist saying that the risk is low. >> it is my experience that the

people who are potentially affected by the outbreak are aware of this and are seeking care if they recognize that some of the signs or characteristics. reporter: stanford of medicine's clinical lab is one of the first clinical sites in the country testing for monkeypox. it was launched on wednesday. the case in question was processed in its lab. looking forward. >> we anticipate that this week, and in the coming weeks, that we will see many more laboratories at that will provide testing for monkeypox. reporter: dr. roy anticipates the cdc's test confirmation in the next few days. in san jose, abc7 news. reggie: netflix is having another round of layoffs. the company is letting go of 300 workers. last month, 150 other netflix employees lost their jobs.

supreme court struck down a new york law that makes it harder for people to carry guns. jobina: the gun safety lot is weaker than what president biden nted, but last night, in a bipartisanship, the senate passed it. the bill includes enhanced background checks, closes a loophole to keep people who committed domestic violence from owning guns, and provide funding for school security and mental health. the vote came hours after the supreme court struck down a new york law requiring people to show a special need for concealed carry permits. the lawmakers swiftly denounced the ruling. >> the decision is reprehensible. it's not what new yorkers want. jobina: the nra calls it a landmark win for second amendment rights. the decision will also impact 80 million americans in other states, including in california. reggie: governor newsom says california is ready with a bill

that will "update and strengthen our public carry law and make it consistent with the supreme court ruling, just" as a chief justice roberts roberts said states like california are free to do. kumasi: the supreme court has nine decisions left in this term. the next opinions are expected this morning, the most significant the ruling on abortion rights. a draft opinion leaked last month suggested that five justices were moving to overturn roe v. wade. a new poll finds americans's confidence in the supreme court is at a record low, only 25% have a lot of confidence in the justices. reggie: now to the five wildfires being monitored in the bay area. they broke out within a few hours yesterday. in the middle of the screen, the fire that is still active this morning, east of livermore. on the left, fires in vacaville and port costa.

bottom right, this one came dangerously close to the valerio refinery. and a a fire in pleasanton that forced evacuations. those orders were lifted last night, allowing people to go back home. that is where we find ryan. good morning. ryan: good morning. good news for the neighborhood, as many people were able to spend the night in their homes after the fire was not necessarily put out, but stopped. it happened over these hills. we are trying to get the best look of this neighborhood as the fire was over that mountain. the good news is residents were able to go back to their homes. the canyon fire, which started in sunol, around 2:00 p.m. yesterday. calfire since it started as a structure fire, but later burned at the hillside. and with the wind, it burned fast and got close to this neighborhood.

we are in this neighborhood that was evacuated, but people are back in their homes. the evacuation order was lifted. but some had to rush very last minute to leave as the fire was burning fast. the sheriff's office says yesterday's conditions made it difficult to contain the fire. >> here at the ridge, it is heavily wooded. it's a wildlife area. and, of course, you are always at the will of nature. you can sometimes feel the wind picking up and that is very concerning. ryan: definitely concerning, especially when you look at how dry the hills are in the east bay. they are golden brown, very dry. the last update we got from calfire was it was about 10% contained. they have stopped forward progress, which is the best news because as we mentioned the fire was getting very close to this

neighborhood and it did not damage structures or burn homes, which is good because people are now allowed back to their homes. but they are still working on getting it towards full containment. in pleasanton, ryan curry. kumasi: the most active fire this morning is the one burning in the ultima area of livermore, near the san joaquin county line. it is being called the tesla incident. fortunately, it is a remote area, but it has already burned more than 300 acres. it's 10% contained. calfire says it started about 5:30 p.m. yesterday evening. no structures have been threatened, and no evacuations. as the fires burned, we were sending out breaking news alerts through the abc7 app. you can customize the app for topics you are interested in and download it now. reggie: a report shows california has a some of the worst air in the nation into

could shorten the lives of people. according to the life quality index, california had 19 of the 20 worst counties nationwide for particulate pollution. it was blamed on smoke from wildfires. experts say if the bad air quality continues, it could take months or even years off the lives of residents. there is a silver lining, none of the counties were in the bay area. most were in the sierra foothills and central valley. kumasi: today in florida, family and friends are marking one year since the tragic condo building collapsed in surfside. people this morning came er for individual where the towers once stood. the first lady will deliver remarks at a public memorial to honor and remember the 98 victims. meanwhile, a judge has finalized a $1.2 billion settlement for these families, calling it remarkable. reggie: his suspected car thief

in custody in alameda county after a confrontation that left two deputies injured. it started at 1:00 a.m. yesterday morning when deputies responded to calls about men trying to steal cars. when the deputies got there, one man ran. investigators essay the other tried to run over the deputies, that is when both started shooting. the driver, a 20-year-old, was hit in the shoulder. he is being treated at the hospital. kumasi: today, we are counting down to pride. it will be so much fun. but everybody safety is a top priority. the san francisco police department will hold a press conference this afternoon to talk about the parade. you can expect to see officers in uniform along the parade route. the chief says violent attacks will not be tolerated. this follows what he says are a number of assaults on police officers in recent weeks. 17 officers were hurt the night
