moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. america is supposed to be the land of free but really we're not free at all. heated reaction after his historic day in america the supreme court's decision to overturn roe v. wade will affect lives for generations and here in the bay area. the response was swift and at times dramatic as protesters took over part of 101. good morning everybody. it's saturday, june 25th. i'm liz kroitz. thanks for joining us and we're going to have more on the big decision from the supreme court in just a moment the first let's start with a quick look at the weather with meteorologist lisa arjun. good morning, lisa. hey, good morning to you. yes, we're starting out with some low clouds and fog by the shoreline. in fact fog from half moon bay

up through santa rosa. you can see that dark area offshore big ridge of high pressure allowing for that warmth to stay with us inland. it is 60 in dublin in pleasanton closer to the bay mid-50s in oakland 48 in nevada with 52 in pacifica. so that is anywhere from a degree to about four to five degrees cooler southwest wind at two miles an hour through the delta allowing for that cooling effect and that sea breeze throughout the afternoon, but we will continue to see temperatures anywhere from about 10 degrees above average inland. so look at the numbers here from the 60s and 70s bayside and inland to the 80s by noon time and the coastal clouds will park in his partly sunny skies there but well into the 90s today the cooler day out of the weekend. we'll talk details about pride coming up. let's okay lisa. q protesters were stopping traffic in san francisco just before seven last night take a look at this caltrans video vehicles backed up along highway 101 at the intersection with

octavia. chp officers were able to guide the protesters off the freeway and back on to city streets and these are protesters demonstrating the roe v wade decision. here's a look at cell phone video from the freeway the backup started to clear about half hour later and take a look now in los angeles protesters there got into a freeway on-ramp there was a heavy police presence demonstrators were also seen in the streets next to city hall the federal building hollywood and throughout downtown la at last check police say they have no reports of violence more protests and rallies are expected across the country today in response to the overturning of roe versus wade abc news reporter christine sloan reports. after the supreme court's big decision returning roe vs. wade from professional athletes pro-choice allows other people to be pro-life if that is what works for them.

protesters came prepared to make their voices heard the group set off from the embarcadero to join a rally at city hall with planned parenthood, california and women's march sf abc news reporter. tim johns was on the streets as the protesters marched through the heart of the city. he takes a closer look at the events that took place. anger and determination following the supreme court's decision to overturn roe versus wade protesters descended on the streets of san francisco friday afternoon. i'm extremely disappointed that the supreme court has taken a million steps backwards. several rallies were held around the city from the steps of city hall to down major streets. one point chp even clearing around 200 protesters off of highway 101 and the far one tree has been working.

outside of city hall karen. andy says she remembers the time before roe vs. wade and is shot the country's laws are now returning to that period i can't believe i'm out here. several political leaders were also out in force many att rally set up by planned parenthood there. they vowed to do everything they can to help protect women in other states. we're really going to rely on abortion funds and other people who are going to step up to support these people economically to get out of these states and get the care. they need while the court's ruling won't impact abortions in california several protesters say they want to see extra steps taken and initiative on the november ballot. we're guarantee abortion and contraceptive rights the state constitution. i feel incred be privileged to live here in san francisco where i have so many like-minded individuals and while protesters say they're frustrated by the days events. they tell us they're not going

anywhere viewing friday as day one of a long fight ahead of them. i want to see all the young people in this country get out to vote. we have a really liberal generation. that is turning 18. i want to see them out at at the polls come midterms. and that was soon john's reporting and now let's take a closer. look at that rally in oakland following the roe v wade ruling you can see abortion rights protesters gathered as speakers took to the steps of city hall there a diverse group marched through downtown streets chanting and rerouting traffic along the way in the south bay. we found separate demonstrations of shock and celebration different reactions from different groups regarding the days development. here's abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo. as a downtown san jose rally for reproductive rights kicked off. so two did a celebratory thanksgiving dinner both events in response to the overturning

of roe v wade thanksgiving in the sense that we're giving thanks to god for the fact that babies will be saved the as a result of the supreme court case following friday's dinner pastor brian garcia. on valley reform baptist sunnyvale says the congregation would pray pray that california the governor. other elected leaders would soon pass similar anti-abortion rights laws as of their states the high court's decision promising development. according garcia. we believe that this is beginning of this movement and so it's only a matter of time before the gospel gets a foothold in california again, but as the church outside san jose hall if you ban abortion, there's just gonna be more unsafe abortions, you know, and i think it's it's just terrible the south bay community coming together fired up in frustrated over friday's. marked decision residents like

urushi pandey who recognizes the safe haven, california provides governor gavinusa making it clear. state is a place where abortion access will remain including keeping available access to those living outside of california. pandas. concern is about the people left without any option simply because of their location, but just thinking about women or just people who are mothers who are to be mothers that don't have the same opportunities as me and and now don't have the same rights as me. politicians do this to our body i think we're going backwards in history. honestly in the south bay. i'm a medical studio abc 7 news and just hours after the decision came down governor newsom made it clear, california as a place where abortion access is going to remain even for those living outside of our state. in fact, the governor signed a

bill that makes california a safe haven for abortion access. and just one week. that it believes guns should have more rights than women. is a dark day. for our little girls and all our children. who will now come of age in a nation with fewer rights? fewer freedoms and fewer protections than the generations before them. governor newsom joined with the governors of washington and oregon creating a west coast offensive protecting access to reproductive care. and there are more protests and events scheduled for today across the bay area in the south bay bans off. our bodies is holding a protests in san jose starting at 10 am. that's the address there is 200 east santa clara street at san jose city hall in the east bay representative. eric swalwell is expected to speak at a rally that's focused on standing up for women's reproductive freedom. that's at the planned parenthood in hayward at 10:32 a street

expected to survive loc. hear thousands of people are heading to san francisco this weekend to celebrate the first pride parade here in festival since 2019 has abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard explains. please say they have a plan to keep everyone safe and they're asking for the public for help. pride will be back on market street this sunday as one of the biggest parades in the country returns after three years and keeping massive crowds safe is the goal of san francisco. police chief william scott. he says every available officer will be on duty first of all. we need the eyes and ears of vigilance. to be at the forefront of everybody's minds the chief urges the public that if you see something say something scott says his department. with federal authorities, especially after police in idaho arrested 31 people earlier this month with ties to a white nationalist group which planned to riot at a local pride event as we know right now.

especially today after everything that's been going on. they are referring to the overturning of roe versus wade and the ongoing goal for transgender rights talked about whether we even want to come today or not. just you never know. we're surrounded by people different opinions and i mean i even feel a little nervous being on the camera, you know, so nervous that they didn't want to share their name, but still relieve the march is back during the pandemic just wasn't seeing a lot of people who also are trans and because quarantining and whatever so it's got it feels really good to be around a lot of people and marissa johnson couldn't agree more here from salt lake city. i came out publicly as non-binary and my bosses saw my social media post and they're here in san francisco and they have a trans son and it's super important to them to support the lgbt community. marissa's bosses paying for

their trip, so they could march when you take those steps in this market this evening. what do you think you're going? field i'm actually getting emotional. i was not expecting that but it's very validating. i don't have a lot of support in my life. that means a lot, you know. flags waving proudly down dolores street onto market the trans community in support of one another along with their allies. it's been a while since i've been able to gather in this type of way with the queer community. so it's really refreshing and empowering to see so manyout hel wesson says, well, it can be tough to stay. hope all she believes one step at a time the trans community will someday be fully accepted and i think there's a lot of good out there and i think that's it's case in point by seeing this turnout and just all the smiles on people's faces that you can't you can't stop that tara campbell abc 7 news.

this week's san francisco city hall once again. heard extra marriage ceremonies leading up to pride the environment was colorful including a rainbow photo booth and a special pride themed marriage license many people signed up to celebrate their love and to tie the knot. we opened up over a hundred appointments today for marriage ceremonies, and we are marrying people all over san francisco city hall we missed the last couple of years because of the pandemic, but we're very excited to be opening up the space again to to all this love. no volunteer deputy marriage commissioners officiated the weddings. some couples say they waited to get married this week so they could celebrate pride for years to come and remember abc 7. is your home for live coverage of the pride parade. it starts sunday morning tomorrow morning at 10:30 wherever you watch abc 7 bay, area will all be part of that very excited for that tomorrow and lisa. let's check. let's take a look at the weather for pride weekend. yeah, it looks nice liz

yesterday. it was pretty breezy. so you may have noticed some cooling. on the bay just 59 half moon bay while we had those 90s inland big ridge of high pressure offshore builds in for sunday and monday, but today once again, we're going to get that seabreeze so you can see just the tip of the salesforce tower there with all that low cloud deck. it is 54 in san francisco 56 in oakland 55 in mountain view 60 in san jose with 56 in santa clara in the fog is at the coast a better view here where you can see that deck of low clouds at about a thousand feet and continue to watch the clouds retreat and then that sea breeze kick in 51 in santa rosa petaluma 52 with 50 in napa 61 in fairfield 58 in concord livermore at 60 degrees. so overall we have cooled down just a little bit maybe about five degrees here in concord. otherwise, very little change out there, but that southwest wind really getting going this morning. so that's gonna allow perhaps to the numbers to stay in the 90s

inland where as tomorrow will be closer to 100 degrees so coastal and bayside fog this morning hot ittand mild at the coast withthn holding into monday and then widespread cooling taking place as we get closer to that holiday weekend into next weekend. here's a look at that fog deck and you'll continue to see at ramp up along the coast move inland for your sunday and then it peels back but we will be looking. that the cooling effect for the parade. it's going to be just a gorgeous day out there with a lot of sunshine and that sea breeze really never letting up. so as we look at the afternoon two o'clock notice stopping this later on in the evening where the winds continue through the delta over 20 miles an hour a lighter seabreeze into the overnight hours, but as we get going i should say the winds back off we'll do about the same thing into sunday with the winds picking up and allowing for that limited cooling that we get. into sunday numbers. look how close they are into the

90s. in fact near 100 of those pinks. the delta antioch as we get into monday, we're going to be hot inland in that cooling trend begins to arrive at the shoreline. so just a couple days of that extreme heat and then it looks like we could be below average as we get into the rest of the work week. so you'll see those 70s around the bay pretty pleasant, but it's inland where we have the heat that is really going to continue to grip much of our interior valleys right on through tuesday highs then looking today pretty nice 75 and look for mid 80s and fremont upper 90s through lakeport and for pride in the upper 60s today low 70s tomorrow. so the warmer day on sunday in the accuweather seven-day forecast for keeping the heat through the weekend and then backing off through the middle of next week with that low cloud deck staying close to the shoreline liz. all right, sounds good lisa. thank you stick with us. we'll be right back.

good morning to you as we look outside. you can pretty much tell what kind of day we're having here with our sea breeze some mercy breeze with us throughout the afternoon fog here at the golden gate. more downtown it is 56 in oakland with 60 in san jose half moon bay's fog at 52 vulmer peak. you can see the deck of low clouds. there are thousand feet 51 center rosa 61 by the delta with that southwest wind and the fog from santa rosa to half moon bay right now it clears but will stay cool to mild at the shoreline a little bit cooler inland right now, but we'll make up the difference throughout the afternoon with sixties seventies and eighties by eleven o'clock and by one o'clock. it's getting pretty hot inland keep. the coolness at the shoreline comfortable in oakland at 75 82 in fremont, and it's getting pretty warm inland, but we're going to see those 90s and reserving the warmer day for your sunday pride. we'll talk about that elsewhere around the bay area your forecast and a hot monday coming up. let's all right, lisa. thanks.

san francisco police are asking for the publix help to find a sexual assault suspect. they've released photos of the man that they're looking for. you can see him here in a red hoodie. please say salted a 20 year old woman two weeks ago when she was walking near bannock street and seneca avenue early in the morning officers. say he bumped into her then covered her mouth from behind restricting her breathing and forced her to the ground assaulting her. he's about five feet tall and may have injuries to his fingers or hands from this struggle with the victim. anyone with information is asked to contact sfpd. two people were murdered this week in san jose and modesto in violence connected to one suspect san jose police just provided the details of what happened before police shot and killed that man abc 7 news reporter. dustin dorsey has the story. a violent 12-hour police pursuit and standoff with a murder suspect tuesday night into wednesday morning spanned hundreds of miles, san jose resident raymond. calderon is suspected of taking

two lives before dying at the hands of san jose police suspect calderon senselessly killed two people and when finally confronted by the san jose police department and they highly populated neighborhood. he opened fire around them as a last stitch effort to escape. this endangered not only the pursuing officers. but innocent members of our community san jose police chief anthony marta said they were first alerted to calderon when his ex-girlfriend called saying he would not return their six and seven year old children to her calderon allegedly threatened suicide before going on his dangerous journey calderon killed a man he knew in front of this home in san jose around 7 pm before driving to modesto to kill michelle rose gonzalez a woman called iran shared a six-month old child with all of this police said with his grandmother and six and seven year old old children in his vehicle. this just goes speak to not only how ruthless and violent this individual was and committing the homicides that the chief mentioned earlier but the extreme indifference to lives you may affect years from now and these children may be affected by this for the rest of

their lives. police said calderon drove from modesto to gilroy to drop the three family members off after then driving back to san jose police said he fired at officers multiple times while running into an empty backyard shed where he would hold up for hours police deployed tear gas in this video shows calderon running out of the said with gun pointed at police as he was shot by officers later dying from his injuries. we would all like these encounters to result in the arrest. an individual without further harm but i think we all know. that's not always possible and certainly not in this case. the county coroner's office is not releasing the identity of the first victim at this time in san jose dustin dorsey abc 7 news. one month to the day that a shooter killed 19 children and two teachers in uvalde, texas congress passed the most sweeping gun bale in 30 years abc news reporter alexis. christophores has more on this historic piece of legislation. the motion is adopted but lawmakers in the house have

passed the most significant gun legislation in decades. the house vote coming a day after 15 senate republicans joined democrats to provide new tools to determ mass shootings following deadly attacks around the nation. this legislation will protect our schools. protect our communities and safeguard the second amendment rights. of law-abiding citizens the 13 billion dollar package will enhance background checks for buyers under 21 prevent partners convicted of domestic violence from purchasing a gun and provide funding for gun violence prevention programs school security and mental health, but the package falls short of president biden's proposals including reinstituting a ban on assault-style weapons and universal background checks. it isn't everything we would have like to see in legislation. it takes us down the road the path to more safety saving lives. let us not judge the legislation for what it does not do but

respect it for what it does. the senate vote came the same day the supreme court ruled that new york state's limits on carrying concealed handguns in public is unconstitutional. we cannot allow new york to become the wild wild west that is unacceptable the high court ruling impacts at least six other states with similar carry and conceal laws including california and massachusetts that landmark congressional gun legislation now heads to president biden's desk where he is expected to sign it into law alexis. christoffers abc news, new york. the napa county district attorney's office has filed drunk driving charges against the husband of house speaker nancy pelosi. paul pelosi faces, two misdemeanor counts of driving. under the influence causing injury authorities say pelosi had a blood alcohol content of 0.082 just over the limit his porsche was involved in a crash with an suv on highway 29 near

four equal rights, but there really wasn't anything addressing sex discrimination and education. then in 1972 the united states congress passed title nine, which prohibits sex discrimination in educational programs that receive federal funds. the law was critical for ensuring women and girls had access to education but title 9 has become most well known for its application to athletics over the last 50 years. we've seen exponential growth. and women and girls access to sport opportunities prior to title nine fewer than 300,000 high school girls had access to sport and those numbers have skyrocketed almost three and a half million girls in high school have access today, but axles and emphasizes that even after five decades. there's still so much progress that needs to be made a data analysis by abc news and the abc own television stations shows that approximately one in five us high schools. still have a significant gap between sports opportunities for just those for boys those gaps are about twice as prominent in
