another fire not far away this fire burned about three acres near rohnert park in sonoma county just the past few hours. it's called the robbler fire because it burned by robbler road and canfield road within an hour firefighters had the fire 50% contained so as quickly as it spread they made a quick work of getting a good part of it at least under control in santa cruz county. the vista fire is 90% contained it burned near highway 17 and vista drive this afternoon that fire is estimated to be a small two acres. all right now to tonight's other top story within days of the supreme court's historic ruling overturning roe versus wade, california takes action and the bay area gets ready on the ballot. this november california's will be asked to vote on whether abortion and contraceptive rights should be protected by the state's constitution. it is all because of action taken today by the state assembly and california has just become the closest state to get

an abortion for more than a million women. abc 7 news reporter stephanie, sierra is digging into what areas of the state will be most impacted steph yes alma. there are 17 planned parenthood health centers across northern california. all of them are modifying their staffing plans to prepare for a surge and patience, but the concern now is resources which areas could struggle as demand spikes. across the country women are preparing for battle a battle threatening the northern, califa planned parenthood ceo guilda gon says they're ready. we have seen the stories of other states where people were literally told in the waiting room that they could not get care. i mean people it's complicated people may have to get in planes to get to us the overturn of rome makes california the nearest abortion provider for 1.4 million women according to a 2021 report compiled by pro-choice group gutmaker. that's an influx 30 times higher

investigating these cases exposing how church officials allowed known abusers to move from parish to parish. the church is facing new lawsuits because of the actions of priests. i first uncovered in the 1990s. over the years i've heard stories of abuse at the catholic churches camp, saint michael in mendocino county from more than two dozen victims every morning. we were supposed to do polar bears. which is all the boys stripped down to nothing and jump in the river naked. he doesn't want to show his face or use his name, but he is the latest to sue the church over abuse. he says he suffered at the hands of father gary timmons in 1978. he first, you know, put his hand down my shirt. and start a massaging my chest. and from there it just continued an escalated. he says the abuse had an immediate and lasting impact made it difficult for him to trust to have a committed relationship the first time. i got blackout drunk. was i was in sixth grade?

which was the year after? the molestation happened now his lawsuit is among hundred streaming into the catholic church after a california state law opened a three-year window for victims to sue no matter how long ago the abuse occurred san francisco's archbishop and every bishop in northern california tried. challenge the law but last week the us supreme court rejected them the decision from the us supreme court was incredibly important not only for my clients but for all of the survivors across the state of california spencer lucas represents several hundreds of survivors of clergy sexual abuse whose cases can now move forward and this rejection gives them some semblance of hope that they can finally get their day in court and see justice for a lifetime of misery that they've endured at the hands of these predator priests. what do you say to all those young men now police arrested timmons after my investigation in 1995. he received an eight-year prison sentence for child molestation

and the catholic church paid out settlements then but lucas has several new lawsuits naming timmons, and another priest. i investigated father austin peter keegan. i have never had sex with them. okay, i've had ever had any physical contact with them. the same physical contact i'll have with you. okay, something like that night. but i talked to his victims and documented. how the catholic church heard complaints about keegan and still moved him from par. perish in the bay area eventually to this orphanage in mexico it actually found keegan down in mexico. ad bee trying foro outhe he where he was and to find him and to find him affiliated with an orphanage while obviously with the pretty appalling the church spent million settling those cases in the 90s and now faces more lawsuits because of keegan timmons and other priests. what do you hope to get out of this personally, do you think this is going to make you feel better? i don't know. will change at least i will have

amtrak and b ns twenty four seven on sunday around 1 pm a tried to cross the tracks on this dirt road crossing on private land to attend a fundraiser for someone who had died. here's the scene from sky 7 as emergency crews swept in and pronounced three people dead at the scene two women from dixon 41 year old julia mondragon and 72 year old maria nieves 51 year old antioch resident mercedes regolato also lost her life two other people suffered major injuries from the crash and we're life-flighted out to hospitals including one child no one aboard the amtrak train was injured. the first thing i thought was wow another accident locals here say there have been many train collisions. this is farmland, and you just you you listen for the horn and you can see you can clearly see

when a train is coming from probably a quarter of a mile away according to the federal government. there have been four crashes in the exact same spot as sunday's accident in the last 20 years. of them also a fatal accident. it's not the first time that it's happened. there's a little monument right down there a person about three or four years ago young man. i got killed there. my opinion is people aren't used to going across river tracks where there isn't a signal gilbert summerhalder owns the adjacent property and he said he saw more than a hundred cars crossing over to the vineyard property where the fundraiser was being held sunday officials and bnsf officers. a drone along the tracks as part of an ongoing investigation into what happened. it needs the regular cross guards coming down and the the witness though the whistles and bells that come down as a place gets more populated. it's going to happen more in brentwood. i'm leslie brinkley abc 7 news.

going up to 940 and the carpool rate will increase to 640. that's beginning this friday july 1st. now. the golden gate bridge is run by its own agency. of course, it's not state-owned like all the other bay area bridges on those seven state-owned bridges. the toll is $7 and is expected to stay at that level through december 2024. we'll see what happens after that. gas prices are going down a welcome relief from the recent record highs. it's partly because global oil prices are going down and so is demand for oil california gas averages 631 per gallon that's down more than 10 cents from the record set about two weeks ago. napa county gas is the most expensive of the state at 656 our cheapest local gas. according to triple-a. it's in solano county a 629 per gallon. most california taxpayers could get hundreds of dollars to help offset the high price of gas under attentive budget compromise being discussed by legislative leaders and governor newsom. eric resendez from our sister

station in los angeles explains who would get how much and when? the record high gas prices in the golden state finally has lawmakers putting a call out that help is on the way a california tech's really agreement has been reached cash to just be cheaper period we don't need a rebate just make it cheaper in the agreement between governor gavin newsom and state lawmakers about 9.5 billion would be returned to taxpayers to help offset the high price of fuel and other goods. it's absolutely important inflation. it is skywalking and we see the prices continue to increase every day. the plan is to use a portion of the state's 97 billion budget surplus and give it back to taxpay. the money would only go to people who made below a certain income level. here's what's key. you have to file your taxes direct deposit. it as much easier to receive the money is much quicker likewise if you haven't found your taxes you should do so immediately even if you don't know taxes, i think they qualify for dollars.

post-game prayer is protected under the first amendment. this comes after the washington state public school coach was suspended for preying on the field after games legal analyst jim hammer says, this can be seen as a big win for religious freedom supporters. what's going on now? court saying no religion has an equal right along with secular activities to exist in in public places, and that's a big shift of the last 20-30 years hammer says that the key component of this ruling is that the court said, it's fair for coach kennedy or any public school coach or teacher to pray and private if he had tried on school time to lead kids in prayer to public school. i think that would have been struck done by the court. so there's still our limits to that but it's saying to people who have sincerely held religious beliefs that they sort of have an equal standing. in their their private time, but some argue there's nothing private about the coach taking a knee in the center of the field and it may pressure students to join along unwillingly, san jose state university human rights institute director william armeline says this ruling is eroding the separation of church

fourth avenue. pardon me sheriff chief laron armstrong identified the victim as a 28 year old hayward man who was standing on the street corner with a group of people who had nothing to do at all apparently with the side show. prior to the collision two officers attempted to stop the vehicle traveling nearly at a hundred miles an hour. suspect vehicle in this case. the nissan was involved inside show activity. we have been able to confirm that the officers were in the area where this activity were occurring. a 19 year old oakland man was arrested for the crash the two officers involved in the chase are on administrative leave. san francisco police officer has been arrested on fraud charges according to the police department it started when the officer was involved in a crash in the summer of 2019 while off duty police say he told the victim his vehicle was not insured and took money as compensation the officer then filed a claim with an insurance company over the damaged vehicle. he now faces grand theft and
