this is abc7 news. >> california's top prosecutor says hate crimes arising across the state. it comes as one bay area community is reeling from a recent incident at a school. >> i am ama daetz. tim johnson has the report. tim: earlier this month, someone stole a pride flack from school grounds. a few days later, it showed up again tattered and burned. police say, it is being investigated as a hate crime. >> when i heard it happening, i shed tears. it is sad. >> it has sent shockwaves through the community. >> one of the reasons we came here is because of the diversity of the school. the inclusivity in the waste the

kids are supported. tim: incidences like these are not just happening there. california attorney general said reported hagar -- hate crimes rose through the year. the increase in attacks including blacks, asians and the lbgtq community. >> it has reached a level we have not seen in california since the aftermath of the terrorist attacks september 11. tim: local leaders say the rise in hate crimes makes events like tuesday more important. >> the sooner we can implement more resources, can we move forward. tim: a way to fight back what remembering the incidences like these do not reflect the whole community. >> we continue to come together in unity. we do not accept that here. tim: the incident is still an

ongoing and active investigation. they're asking anyone with information to contact the department or call the anonymous tip line. ama: thank you. there is a growing memorial for the victims of a shooting during norway's pride ceremony. two people were killed and several others were injured. this led to the city canceling their pride parade. the shooting is being investigated as terrorism. today, flowers relayed to honor the victims. -- flowers were laid to honor the victims. >> we [indiscernible] let people love who they want to love and stand together against extremism and violence. ama: a suspect is under arrest. if you would like to be an ally, take action.

go to our website to find out how. >> new developments with monkeypox. what has rolled out a strategy that focuses on vaccines to deal with the current outbreak. anyone who has been likely exposed should get vaccinated. the recommendation has been for confirmed cases only. now, the cdc is recommending vaccination should happen within two weeks of possible exposure. there are currently two vaccinations available and the administration is looking to increase the supply over summer month. testing is being wrapped up with more labs available to process. officials are downplaying concerns that monkeypox could turn into the next covid. >> unlike covid, wiki pox has been around forever. we have known about it for 60 or so years. we have spent years studying and treating.
