skies and cool afternoon. 55 in oakland. 54 in the city. 57 in san jose. the view outside is a great one from the exploratorium camera. a live look showing you the cloud cover. fog slowly clearing, very similar to yesterday morning. by the afternoon, we have sunny skies away from the coast but it is a cool start to the month of july. we are all in the 60's and 70's. a closer look at the afternoon highs and the holiday forecast coming up in a few minutes. jobina: if you have a trip planned for this weekend, be aware of delays. airports are warning about shortages affecting travelers at this moment. according to flightaware, there are more than two dozen delays or cancellations already and it is only 5:00 in the morning. ryan curry is at the airport with more on the troubles. ryan: good morning. we could be expecting one of the

busiest travel weekends in a couple of years. it is hard to speculate the exact numbers but we are already seeing some delays and we have already been seeing over the last few weeks and months travel numbers slowly trickling backup. tsa reporting numbers back up to where they were. this could be a very busy weekend here at sfo. g experts, they are telling passengers to expect cancellations and travel delays, staffing shortages and other problems. with the increase in travel this weekend, they could be amplified. passengers say airlines are notifying them well in advance of their flight in case of any delays or cancellations. sfo has lower cancellation rates than the national average but it could be a tough weekend for many. >> if anything goes wrong like a thunderstorm, it is a domino effect and it ends up being chaos. >> i have been warned by my family that there have been delays this past week and

because of the holiday weekend, i wanted to make sure i was here. ryan: that is still going to be the best bet. arriving early. cancellations may not happen as frequent here but that does not mean it will not happen at another airport. you could have a layover somewhere else and that could be a real issue. tsa expecting people to have long delays here. we are seeing numbers trickling back up the last few weeks and it is a holiday weekend so arriving early will be the best bet in case you have to make a flight on time. ryan curry, abc 7 news. kumasi: if you are staying home this weekend, there are many events happening to celebrate the holiday. we have all the information on our website including fireworks. just head over to abc7news.com. julian: dead anchovy are falling from the sky in lorain county. they were found at a wildlife preserve bordered by simpson beach. amanda del castillo you spoke with experts about what is

causing this phenomenon. amanda: the shore is similarly -- seemingly painted silver by anchovy. the mass event that happened earlier this week. >> this is one of those times where we get to see the sheer number of the size of these schools of fish. it is amazing. amanda: amazing and a mystery. there is uncertainty about why the thousands of fish ended up here. here's county parks director max korten. >> what likely happened is some kind of predator in the ocean encountered a school of anchovy somewhere near the mouth of the lagoon. amanda: possibly drawing the anchovy into shallow water where they sucked up the limited oxygen and suffocated. a researcher said that ending is likely although he believes something else may have attracted the anchovy to the lagoon. >> hungry anchovies go where the food is. amanda: a volunteer at uc davis,

he says this year is generating more food production and the fish follow. he says the cool water is bringing in more anchovy than we have seen in the last 10 years off of our coast. the abundance is good news for seabirds. interesting news for anyone seeing anchovy far from water. >> people, i do not want to visualize this, but i think they are bar food. they are feasting so much, it is more fish that may they know what to do with. amanda: as more is done to determine what led to the die off, experts they do not panic. this has happened several times over the last few decades. >> the biggest words of assurance is the anchovy population is booming and we are in a boom and things like that drive them to the shore and unfortunately, they do themselves in. amanda: amanda del castillo, abc

7 news. >> family and friends pay tribute to a man killed in a crash after a sideshow. they gathered at the same location where he died early sunday at 50 4th avenue and international boulevard. he was killed after police chased a driver who they believe was part of the sideshow. policing the car raced away from officers at 100 miles an hour and lost control then crashed into other vehicles that hilda and killed him. his brother talked with j.r. stone about the dangers of sideshow culture. >> i see it a lot. cars, we see it a lot and it is nothing new to us. now that something has happened and now that we are grieving and hurting because things we see on a daily basis actually turned out the something that caused us -- turned out to be something that cause those to lose a

brother. kumasi: the alleged driver has been arrested. two others are under arrest. julian: firefighters are monitoring hotspots after a three alarm fire in vallejo. flames broke out around 5:00 p.m. yesterday along broadway near highway 29. crews were able to get it or control -- get it under control before spreading to nearby buildings. no reports of any injuries and the cause is under investigation. >> the wildfire that prompted evacuations in nevada county is holding steady under 900 acres. of fire started inside of a building but did not say how or why that building caught fire. three buildings which were basically storage sheds also burned down. containment is up to 20%. full containment is expected by sunday. the fire started tuesday afternoon near the ub river. -- the yuba river.

>> 15 black former or current employees are suing tesla alleging racial abuse in their factories. they say they have been subjected to being called racist names, references to slavery, and sexual comments from colleagues, managers, and even human resources. most of it occurred at tesla's fremont location. some say they were given the most physically demanding roles and path of for promotions. tesla currently faces at least 10 losses for discrimination and sexual harassment. tesla has not responded to the allegations. one person is dead after a crash between two boats near angel island, a sailboat and 25 foot motorboat crashed yesterday afternoon. the crash caused the motorboat to spin out of control until police officers could get a hold of it. one person in the motorboat was ejected and pulled from the water. they were taken to the hospital where they died. four other people were on board the sailboat. they were not hurt. san francisco police and the

we are looking at a potential busy travel weekend, the busiest since before the pandemic. part of the reasoning is due to the staffing shortages at the airport. that is leading to cancellations and delays and a big headache for a lot of passengers. abc news reported thousands of flights were canceled last weekend and that was not a holiday. it is tough to speculate the exact numbers but if anyone is flying today, expect it to be very crowded. it already is. staffing shortages and other problems have caused these issues to be problems for months and with the increase in travel, it could be and the fight for this fourth of july weekend. the advice from experts, give yourself plenty of time. do not cut it close. >> you will have to navigate more traffic on the roads and when you get to the airport, there will be longer lines because there are issues with the airlines and tsa. ryan: that is the core of the

authorities claim she had cannabis oil in her luggage. they accused her of drug smuggling. the u.s. embassy promised to send a diplomat to the hearing. her wife is demanding the biden administration do more to secure her release. >> you trust that the maximum amount of effort is being put forward to bring her home? >> no, i don't and i hate to say that because i do trust that the persons working on this are very genuine people, that i do believe. but i do not think the maximum amount of effort is being done because again, the rhetoric and the actions do not match. reggie: greiner faces up to 10 years in prison if she is convicted. jobina: the woman suspected of killing a taping chip cyclist from san francisco has been captured by federal agents in costa rica. authorities have been searching for 34-year-old caitlin armstrong for days. they found her.

she is wanted in the killing of mariah wilson in austin, texas. wilson was preparing for a race. authorities say she had a brief relationship with armstrong's boyfriend and that the killing might have been motivated by jealousy. federal agent say armstrong traveled from new jersey to costa rica using a fake passport. she will be deported back to the u.s. where she will face murder charges in texas. reggie: scooters will be on the streets of santa rosa today. the pilot program begins around several neighborhoods. 200 scooters will be available downtown, railroad square, santa rosa junior college, and montgomery village. the program will last one year and it will be up to the council to decide whether to continue it. jobina: the apple academy is celebrating its first graduating class. we get a look at the new program. reggie: why wells fargo is listing one of its san francisco office buildings. first, check the weather. drew: here is a live look from
