weekend. >> the number one thing you really want to think about, make sure your pets have identification, and that's going to include a microchip and collar that's secure and have i.d. tags that have all your contact information on them. those can rub off after time so you do want to make sure you check that periodically and replace them as needed. >> so, if you don't have the microchip do consider getting it. it's quick, easy, doesn't hurt the dog and go to your local big box store and get a tag made instantly so consider doing it like asap this weekend. >> so most of this weekend we're outside. is there a moment when it makes sense to bring your dog? you want to have your puppies with you. >> this weekend, the one tip would be to keep your pets indoors at all times. fireworks displays can be really traumatizing to pets. they can startle very easily. even your best behaved dog can startle easily. >> is that because your hearing is much more -- >> yes, and it's disorienting. they hear the loud noise and

they just want to run and they don't know. it's coming from every direction according to them so they just bolt and you can't be fast enough to catch a running dog. >> i rescued my dog copper from north shore animal league so thank you for all you do but a lot of dogs, of course, as you noted, all that anxiety when they're hearing the fireworks go off. if you're doing the right thing and keeping them indoors, how do you keep them safe and calm inside the home? what can you do? >> you want to pick a space in your home that you can secure for them. make a nicer treat space for them. maybe include their kennel crate if they enjoy that. close a curtain to block out the lights outside, the flashing lights from the fireworks and put on the tv or the radio for some noise that will help comfort them. >> we have done that. it really works. >> absolutely. >> it helps drown out the noise and be conscientious what you're picking, not a tv channel that will show the fireworks. that will be counterintuitive

to what you're trying to do. >> "101 dalmatians" is what we go with. >> you want to keep them safe after the celebrations. >> there's going to be a lot of debris left including food from our barbecues, want to make sure our pets can't have access to that and clean up appropriately after your food but as well things like insect repellents, lighters, lighter fluid that we would normally use at a barbecue can be toxic to pets and in the neighborhood there's going to be firework debris they could get into so keep an eye on them and don't let them off leash. >> this one is eating lara's dress. >> yes. >> the beads first then the dress. thank you so much for all these tips. we truly appreciate it. all these puppies are available for adoption, north shore animal league america. check out their website. coming up here, more from "gma." >> pick me. pick me.
