abc7ew >> it is infuriating and sad. >> fourth of july is supposed to be a big fundraiser for one group but instead it is fizzling because of thieves swipe their fireworks. good evening, i'm ama daetz. the optimist club of newark else is fireworks every year with the proceeds going to help children in need. tim has a story you'll see only on 7. >> to have somebody take away our lively hood was very disappointing. reporter: a less than explosive start at this fireworks stand on

newark. the stand sells a variety of fireworks every year. monday night the day before they started selling someone broke into their storage shed and stole about a quarter of their inventory. >> net worth, $7,000. reporter: they tell me theft left them devastated. all of the money they raise this weekend goes to helping disadvantaged youths in their community. money now those kids won't see. >> scholarships to newark memorial. graduating seniors. scholarships to college. special ed. christmas party with santa. reporter: it is not just the immediate impact. it is the lerm effect on the budget of -- long-term effect on the budget of their organization. with loss they have had to spend $1,500 on security guarding what is left of their stock in case the thieves try to strike again.

$6.30. 11 cents less than last week. a city councilman in compton brought relief giving away freea limited time friday. cars lined up hours before the event with the cost around $50 per vehicle. organizers gave away $5,000 worth of fre gas. they hope to do more event like this one in in the future. now to the war in ukraine where a russian missile struck an apartment complex in the port stay of odessa killing at least 21 people. we spoke with a local ukrainian who said this one hit too close to home. reporter: a frantic search for survivors friday in odesa. russian missiles striking this apartment building killing at least 21 people including a child. >> get my family to safety,

party crashers who tried to ruin a private celebration to end pride month. >> hey, hey, close your door. close the door. close the door. ama: you're looking at body camera video. a group of men try to rush into the bar which was hosting a drag show. when they got turned away the group stood outside yelling homophobic slurs. >> there was obviously a presence by the woodland police department so that made us feel more comfortable. reporter: the owner of the bar said the show was initially canceled after word about the event reached tiktok but then organizers put together a scaled down event. earlier this month the proud boys disrupted drag queen hour at the library.

ama: at least one daily harvest customer attempted to warn c.e.o. rachel drori that the product was causing much more than gastrointestinal discomfort. hundreds of people have been sickened and in some cases had their gallbladders removed.

reporter: 41-year-old luke tashie is a marathon runner and healthy eater. ask june 8-18 he was hospitalized three times with elevated liver enzymes after eating daily harvest lentil and leek crumbles. >> it felt like nothing i have ever experienced before. reporter: according to the f.d.a., daily harvest e-mailed commerce about the product. it stated a small number of commerce reported gastrointestinal discomfort -- customers reported gastrointestinal discomfort. the lentils must be thoroughly cooked. out of an abummeddance of caution, please dispose of them that you have received and do not consume them. >> i knew we had been searching with doctors for three weeks to figure out what was going on

with me. reporter: he connected online with other customers with similar symptoms. he reached out to the c.e.o. rachel drori over linked in realizing they had gone to the same business school. >> i said if you're not certain, i'm certain. i'm sitting here in the hospital. i have experienced this. i go gone through torture for three weeks. reporter: he provided to abc7 news, i do not believe this has anything to do with cooking lentils. i basically charred mine. drori wrote back we are actively investigating and taking this seriously. as soon as we got wednesday of a potential issue we asked all customers to dispose of the product. tashie said his symptoms were well beyond gastrointestinal and had to talk surgeons out of removing his gallbladder.

tashie asked if the f.d.a. had been informed. drori did not answer that and thanked him and said she would pass it to the investigation team asap. >> i will go to the end of the earth to save one person from going through what i went through. reporter: the f.d.a. would not tell abc7 news when daily harvest contacted the f.d.a. they cede they enacted their voluntary recall on june 17 when it sent out the initial e-mail to customers but tashie worried about the commerce who didn't check e-mail or spouses and children who were not the main account holders and prepared the product and ate it without hearing about the recall. he wrote i am pleading to you to let people know what is going o. let the news outlets know. it wasn't until june 23, six days after the voluntary recall

the bay bridge. low clouds and patchy drizzle will be with us for the next two nights. breezy and gusty conditions for the weekend. cooler than average saturday and sunday. we expect some summer-like warmth to return around the middle of next week. we will see at some point during the overnight hours an increase in low clouds and fog pushing across the bay and inland. there will be patchy drizzle along the coastline and some may fall around the bayshoreline and some inland areas not too far away the coast as well. by 11:00 tomorrow morning, mainly sunny skies just about everywhere except along the coast. overnight lows mainly in the mid 50's. pretty mild in most locations. 54 in san francisco. mid-to-upper 60's along the bayshoreline. one or two locations like santa rosa may top out at 80.

gh inland areas closer to the bay will have mainly clear skies, 9:00 at meets the. temperatures in the mid 60's. in san francisco it is likely to be a little bit cloudy it is a clouds are likely to roll in just as the fireworks begin. just as i said earlier, it is going to be iffy. we have going to have mainly sunny skies during the afternoon hours monday. warmer going into the middle of next week with mainly sunny skies by the end of next week. summer-like warmth will return to up r 80's to low 90's inland. every year we have to wait and see what is going to happen as the fireworks begin. ama: i feel like iffy. there is still a little bit of a chance in there. >> more than a little bit of a chance. more than 50-50. ama: i'm going to hang onto that. glass half
