>>uiing a tt bay a news. >> these seven counts of first-degree murder will lead to a mandatory life sentence should he be convicted, without the possibility of parole. >> just over an hour ago, prosecutors announced they officially charge him with seven counts of first-degree murder for the shooting during yesterday's fourth of july parade in highland park, illinois. attorneys at dozens more charges are coming. good evening and thank you for joining us. >> this comes as we learn more about the suspected gunman and the victims. >> karina nova joins us with details. >> a seven person died as a

result of the parade shooting. we are learning the names and ages of the six of the seven people who died. they include jacqueline son heim, nicholas toledo, 88-year-old stephen strauss, 64-year-old catherine goldstein, and husband and wife, 35-year-old irna mccartney and kevin mccarthy. their two-year-old son was with them at the parade and survived. please also released new details of the suspect's actions the day of the shooting and leading up to it. surveillance video shows the suspect wearing women's clothing, which he used to disguise himself and cover his face tattoos. it may have helped him blend into the crowd and escape after firing more than 70 rounds from a rooftop. police revealed the suspect planned the attack for weeks. he bought five firearms legally in illinois over the last two years. we also learned of 2 prior encounters with police.

both in 2019. the first was a mental health call, the second from a concerned family member. >> the second occurred in september of 2019. a family member reported he said he was going to kill everyone and he had a collection of knives. the police responded to his residence, removed 16 knives, a dagger, and a sword. at that time, there was no probable cause to arrest, no complaints that were signed by any victims. >> this afternoon, his parents released a statement saying in part "we are all mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, and this is a terrible tragedy for many families, the victims, parade goers, community, and our own. our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go to everyone." his father ran for mayor of highland park in 2019 and his family has since hired an attorney. >> the family having deep roots

turn in oakland. five fans attending last night's a's game were hit by bullet fragments. the injuries happened during the post game fireworks show. oaklands police chief gave an update. he said it is highly likely the gunshots were a result of celebratory gunfire outside of the ballpark. >> this is why we caution people to not fire guns indiscriminately because it could impact unsuspecting people, people who are attending a normal event, and all of a sudden, several fragments come down on them. >> none of the injuries are considered to be life-threatening. a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest. >> a three-year-old boy critically injured in a separate shooting in oakland. officers found him on 20 6th avenue at about 8:30 p.m..

in his update, the police chief said officers likely saved the boy's life by taking him to the hospital instead of waiting for other emergency personnel to arrive. investigators are looking into whether or not a relative might have been involved in the shooting. >> oakland was not the only city who saw violence in gun related injuries. in the north bay, police are investigating the first homicide in three years. they say after the fireworks show, a man was found shot to death a few blocks away in what appears to be a targeted attack. a woman is recovering in windsor after being shot in the arm by celebratory gunfire while watching a fireworks show at a city park on sunday. a 14-year-old girl was shot while watching fireworks in the bayview. >> a dozen san francisco police officers were hurt try to disperse the crowd last night. the group was gathered at 24th and harrison. video shows a fire burning and fireworks being set off.

fireworks and glass bottles were thrown at officers, injuring 12. they were eventually able to put out the fire and break up the crowd. >> firefighters responded to more than 70 fires since friday night. 55 last night alone. some are confirmed to be caused by fireworks, the vast majority expected to be fireworks related. one of the fires was a grass fire in bay point burning 6.5 acres. a witness said somebody was setting off fireworks from a car and the fire started. fireworks also started at a house fire in pittsburgh. >> upon arrival, we had flames in the house that originated on the exterior of the home. we believe they were set by fireworks. >> it was all around going off, so it wasn't necessarily my neighbors. but we heard them all around. >> flames made it onto the roof.

the family who lives there was able to evacuate safely, but they are homeless. >> bay area are being deployed to the foothills to fight a wild fire southeast of sacramento. it tripled in size overnight and has burned morewith no containm. strike teams from alameda county, hayward, and fremont are making the trip to the front lines. one crew member has been hurt. mandatory evacuation orders have been expanded. calfire says at least 450 structures are threatened. one homeowner had a few minutes warning thanks to a phone call from a friend. >> has come to my house, said it wiped out my neighbors house. >> the fire may have been sparked by fireworks or a barbecue. around 13,000 pg&e customers are without -- as a result of the

armstrong is back in the u.s. facing murder charges in the shooting death of a professional cyclist, mariah wilson. officials say she was hiding out in a remote beach town in costa rica for more than a month and trying to disguise her identity. >> she also changed her physical appearance a little bit to where she shortened her hair like the little bit about shoulder length, dyed it dark brown, she had some type of bandage on her nose. >> are you saying she had a nose job? >> i don't know if it was a nose job. >> police accused armstrong of shooting wilson to death at this home in austin, texas on may 11 after learning her boyfriend had gone swimming and to dinner with wilson. according to court documents, armstrong's boyfriend told police he was briefly in a relationship with 25-year-old wilson last year, saying after that their relationship was platonic. authorities questioned armstrong and let her go. two days later, she vanished. she flew to costa rica with a passport that was not her own.

u.s. marshals say the yoga instructor had set herself up at a hostel, which advertises itself as a tropical paradise with white sandy beaches and yoga classes. >> she really was going to these yoga studios, taking classes, signing in under an alias. really going under a different identity and taking those classes to where we believe she was trying to become some type of instructor. >> she will soon be taken from houston to austin for trial. experts tell us prosecutors could increase charges to capital murder, which if convicted, she could face the death penalty. reena roy, abc news, new york. >> a san francisco group warning the public about the potential monkeypox exposure during a pride weekend event. this as cases of the virus rise across the country. today, tim johns spoke with the event organizers as well as public health officials to to what people need to know.

>> a message posted sunday warning people about possible exposure to monkeypox. following a pride weekend event, comfort and joy says they received a possible report one in 10 the tested positive. >> we had an anonymous email that a friend of this person had tested positive for monkeypox. >> currently more than a dozen monkeypox cases into physical. spread through skin contact or through infected clothing. the department of public health says it is important for people who have been exposed to monitor themselves. >> this is the time to self-assessed. if you attended and you feel good, you don't see any symptoms, it is likely you are in an ok place and watch for the next two weeks. >> for those who develop symptoms, it is key to reach out to a medical professional. monkeypox vaccines are in short supply and getting an

>> happening now. oakland city officials discussing whether or not voters can have a say in the oakland a's propose waterfront stadium at the howard terminal. we have been following this story and have the very latest in this saga. >> city council is discussing this topic right now. oakland city council has proposed to put an advisory measure on the ballot about the new oakland a's stadium. he said it is about giving taxpayers a voice. those who oppose see it as a stall tactic, and it could be causing millions to the city. >> we want to be heard. let us vote. >> as the oakland city council meeting progress, public comment was packed with those in favor and against the decision at hand. >> are terminal is a golden opportunity for oakland. we cannot delay it anymore. >> city council has to decide whether or not to put a question about the new oakland a's

stadium on the november ballot. it is a chance for voters to give their opinion. >> it is urgent they want to keep them local. they are trying to do everything they can. when you do things in a rush, it hurts us. >> she's with the oakland east bay democratic club. she is against the new ballpark and watches in november. she's concerned there is no financial review, expected in september. on how tax generated from the new ballpark will be allocated. >> we don't have all of the numbers, which is why i know they have been pushing for the financial analysis separate from the city and the a's. >> oakland city councilmember led a rally supporting putting the stadium vote on the november ballot. even if it gets on the ballot, it would be an advisory vote. never voters decide, it would not be binding. putting it on the ballot could cost close to $1 million.

that is a big issue for community activist. >> our core message is it is bigger than baseball. it is not just building a stadium. >> he's concerned with what he calls a misinformation campaign regarding the use of taxpayer money for the project. it includes a new stadium, housing, parks, and retail space. >> it covers to avoid it, although you were elected to make tough decisions. >> the economic engine for oakland. he said there's been numerous opportunities for the public to participate and comment over the past few years. he sees it as a delay tactic. he says leave it to city council. >> using all of the resources they have to analyze a project, here the input from the community and way the voices of those opposed and against to make a decision and final vote. >> even though it is just an advisory measure, those in favor say it will provide city council the pulse of the community, those against the ballot measure where h -- worry it is

breaking news as we come on the air in the west. the suspect now charged with seven counts of murder for the deadly july 4th parade shooting in illinois. the death toll is growing as we learn chilling new details about his alleged plot. just moments ago, authorities revealed a seventh victim has now died, with more than 30 injured. gunman pre-planned the attack the sheriff says the suspected gunman pre-planned the attack for several weeks. the gunman armed with a high-powered rifle firing more than 70 rounds into the crowd from the top of a building. today, authorities released surveillance images appearing to show him wearing a wig and women's clothing to make his escape by blending in with the crowd. the sheriff describes how they tracked him down, arresting him in his mother's car. late today, police revealed they had several encounters with this suspect, including an attempted suicide in 2019.
