>> vice president kamala harris visited the site of the shooting calling for a ban on assault weapons and saying this tragedy should have never happened. this morning, new details emerging about the man charged with killing seven people at the fourth of july parade in highland park, illinois. authorities say back in april of 2019, someone who knew the suspect called police to report he had attempted suicide and months later police were called to his home after a relative said he was threatening to kill his family. >> a family member reported that crimo said he was going to kill everyone, and crimo had a collection of knives. >> reporter: he was not arrested that day, but according to police, they confiscated more than a dozen knives and a sword. >> at that time there was no probable cause to arrest. there were no complaints that were signed by any of the victims. >> reporter: on tuesday authorities searching the home where the suspect lives with his uncle paul say they found more legally bought guns. despite the prior incidents revealed by police, paul crimo

insists there were no signs his nephew would carry out such an attack. >> there were no warning signs. > reporter: overnight abc news learning the suspect cleared four background checks between june 020 and september 201. illinois has some of the strictest gun laws in the country including so-called red flag laws. but they did not come into play because the family never filed what's known as an extreme risk protection order. the president of the advocacy group every town for gun safety saying, quote, the shooter exhibited some dangerous warning signs, exactly what illinois' red flag law is designed to address but tools are only useful when they're taken out of the toolbox. officials late tuesday handed down first degree murder charges. >> the lake county state's attorney's office charged. robert crimo iii with seven counts of first degree murder. these are just the first of many charges that will be filed against mr. crimo. i want to emphasize that. >> reporter: the prosecutor saying dozens of additional charges are likely.

authorities revealing the suspect fired more than 70 rounds into the parade crowd and dressed as a woman to hide his distinctive tattoos and blend into the crowd. police say he had been planning the attack for weeks. the fbi and local police are poring over his social media footprint. sources say they're finding a disturbing series of posts and videos that potentially point to a day of carnage, but those posts were never brought to law enforcement's attention. >> we were not made aware of these videos. >> reporter: among the seven victims of the attack, the parents of 2-year-old aidan mccarthy. aidan was found alive and covered in blood under the body of his father. the little boy now among the crowd of survivors whose lives are forever changed. >> our lives are going to be forever changed. it's going to take time to overcome. i know that, but we will be okay because it's highland park strong. >> officials say so far there is no indication the victims were targeted because of their race

or religion. investigators in philadelphia are trying to find the shooter who opened fire at a july 4th fireworks show. two police officers were grazed. one was hit in the shoulder, the other in the forehead. the bullet was found lodged inside the officer's hat. the mayor expressed frustration over gun violence and suggested he doesn't want to be the mayor anymore. >> i don't enjoy fourth of july. i don't enjoy the democratic national convention. i didn't enjoy the nfl draft. i'm waiting for something bad to happen all the time, so i'll be happy when i'm not here -- when i'm not mayor and i can enjoy some stuff. >> you're looking forward to not being mayor? >> yeah. >> the mayor has released a new statement saying he was overwhelmed by frustration monday night and remains grateful to be mayor. in washington a congressman on the january 6th committee is revealing the threatening messages he's received. adam kinzinger is one of only two republicans on the committee. the threats are graphic. kinzinger says they're evidence of a growing problem in american politics. abc's em nguyen joins us from

washington with the very latest. good morning, em. >> reporter: good morning, mona. the release of the audio comes as the january 6th committee schedules a new hearing for next week. >> i guess i can't say a whole lot more other than i hope you naturally die as quickly as [ bleep ] possible. >> reporter: this morning, republican congressman adam kinzinger sharing a compilation of threatening messages his office has received in response to his work on the committee in investigating the attack on the capitol. >> we know where your family is, and we're going to get you, you little [ bleep ]. gonna get your wife. gonna get your kids. >> reporter: kinzinger is a father to a baby born earlier this year. the audio posted to his twitter account includes more than a dozen messages. >> we know where you live. we're coming to your house. we're going to get you, boy. >> reporter: kinzinger and liz cheney are the only republicans on the january 6th committee. >> we're going to get you. coming to your house, son. going to get you and liz cheney,

ha, ha, ha. >> reporter: kinzinger saying, threats of violence over politics has increased heavily in the last few years, but the darkness has reached new lows. the committee's next public hearing will be tuesday and will focus on the white nationalist groups who took part in the riot.pwhile the hearings in wasn are expected to wrap up this month, a criminal investigation i georgia looking into election interference now appears to be ramping up. a grand jury has issued subpoenas to seven advisers and allies of former president trump including rudy giuliani and senator lindsey graham. also subpoenaed cleta mitchell. she was on the infamous call with georgia's secretary of state when trump said he needed to find enough votes to overturn his loss to joe biden. legal experts say trump's call may have violated multiple state election laws. trump denies any wrongdoing. the grand jury in georgia cannot issue indictments, it can only make recommendations to

prosecutors who will then decide whether to pursue charges. mona. >> em, thank you. the city of akron, ohio, is lifting its curfew days after a state of emergency was declared in wake of the jayland walker police shooting. at least 40 protesters were arrested over the weekend. 19 buildings were damaged downtown. walker was killed after an attempted traffic stop. body camera footage shows officers firing at least 90 rounds at walker who was unarmed at the time. his sister spoke with abc's t.j. holmes explaining why she can't watch the video. >> i don't want to see him in that light because i know who he is. i just can't see myself watching somebody be gunned down or even running from the police. i'm just really sad because i said out of many black men who have been killed and many families who experience it even as a sister, you know, it's just -- excuse me. it's just -- it's really hard. >> reporter: akron police are

facing an independent state investigation into the shooting. a first for the department. some americans traveling in europe could be stranded as a major airline faces a pilot strike. pilots for scandinavian airlines are demanding better pay and working conditions. the airline is also filing for bankruptcy protection. other european airlines are struggling with staffing shortages. british airways is canceling hundreds more flights. new evacuation orders in effect as a wildfire spreads near sacramento, california. the electra fire burned 4,000 acres causing tens of thousands of power outages. officials say it may have been sparked by a firework or barbecue. among those rescued two dogs were carried to safety by fire crews. 1200 buildings threatened by the fire. a developing crisis in sydney, australia, threatening 85,000 homes. the rain is finally easing, but water levels are expected to keep rising for several days. all right, back here at home let's take a look at your wednesday weather.
