order on the jack app today. >> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. >> the bay area's microclimates are on full display today. a familiar scene at the golden gate bridge shrouded in fog. over the east bay, the heat was on. temperatures soaring well past 90 degrees. san francisco might be the only place getting relief thank you for joining us. i am dion lim. let's get to spencer standing by with what looks like another scorcher for the area. spencer: let's look back at today's high temperatures and you can see just how hot it was. when i to was the high in fairfield. 95 in santa rosa.

only 73 in san francisco. we are looking at not a significant cool down, just 82 degrees in redwood right now. we are going to have fog and low clouds moving tonight, so that will bring more relief to areas on the coast and the bayshore line. tomorrow, the highs are going to be in the same range as what we saw today and in some places, a little higher. look for highs tomorrow of 103 in lake more and upper 90's in the inland east bay. one more scorcher is coming our way but there will be changes after that. all of those details a little later. dion: developing news out of yosemite national park read tonight, the washburn fire has grown to more than 2000 acres with 0% containment. the world's oldest trees on earth are in danger. evacuations are in place for some. here is j.r. stone.

j.r.: these smoke images coming from yosemite national park over the course of the last 72 hours are incredible but concerning. >> at first we thought we would be ok. j.r.: but trevor who was at his fishing cabin was forced to evacuate friday night. he took this picture two streets over from his cabin. >> overnight, we saw ashes on the front yard of our cabin so we knew the smoke was right there. j.r.: hundreds of firefighters are on the ground, others dropping fire retardant on the ground. sprinklers are send -- set up around oldest tree in mariposa grove with an estimated age around 3000 years old. >> we have had no sequoias burn, which is wonderful. >> this one just feels a little

different because it is so close to any part of mariposa grove. j.r.: a grove first protected by abraham lincoln during the civil war. as crews battle the flames, smoke concerns will be felt by more people in the days to come and an air quality advisory has been issued for the bay area on monday. orange, smoky skies like the ones seen during the 2020 fire are not expected at this point. >> we hope to not have any serious smoke impacts to the community. most of the smoke we see will not be at the ground level. >> thankfully there is a river where the cabin is and it is concerning, but hopefully everyone who is involved is able to put their best efforts and thankful to them. j.r.: yosemite is still open, but it is still smoky, so if you go, you will see and smell that

smoke did j.r. stone, abc 7 news . dion: firefighters continue to make progress controlling the electra fire is an and calaveras counties. about 450 structures are still listed as threatened. that is down from more than 1200 earlier this week. the marin county fire department is adding manpower as the fire season heats up. the department is doubling its defense crews things to a boost in funding from the. state budget. . that money will allow the department to increase crews to 16 firefighters. and a reminder, you can see all wildfires in california by using our online interactive wildfire tracker. you can find it on our website, abc7news.com.

moving onto north bay where there was a deadly assault overnight in the downtown petaluma area. people are searching -- police are searching for a suspect that possibly beat the victim with a baseball bat. this is petaluma's first homicide of the year. cornell barnard has what we need to know about the investigation. >> it is super heartbreaking because i do walk around the streets at night. cornell: many were shocked to hear about a violent crime in downtown petaluma. police say early sunday morning, a man was lying in the middle of keller street after being assaulted and later pronounced dead at the scene. >> earlier at 1:49 am, we got a call about a possible fight downtown. the persons said his friend had been struck by a baseball bat. cornell: police do not know what led up to the assault and the suspect was still at large. >> we think the suspect may have

fled in a vehicle. we don't have any description at the time. cornell: the victim's relatives learning the terrible news at the petaluma police station. >> sadness for my community that we deal with more and more of this kind of interpersonal violence. cornell: all the more shocking considering the last homicide in petaluma was back in the summer of 2017. >> we have lived here for almost five years and low crimes, one of the things we liked about this area. cornell: police believe the victim and his attacker may have come from a local bar or nightclub. >> the bars were getting out and in the past we used the have a disturbance. >> something like that could have happened to anybody, and that makes me more uneasy. cornell: police are looking at

surveillance video from downtown businesses could provide clues about the suspect. dion: northbound highway 101 through sausalito is now reopened. caltrans closed two lanes between the robin williams tunnel and rodeo avenue this weekend. the lanes were scheduled to remain closed until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow, but crews finished earlier and everything is open. twitter has hired a law firm to aid in the company's battle with elon musk. they have hired a firm that specializes in business mergers. this is in response to musk's dumping his $4 billion bid to take over twitter. twitter's chairman responded saying that the company plans to seek legal action if the deal falls through. coming up, the abortion debate

dion: teens in the east bay making their voices heard about abortion rights. youth activists for alameda held a march to city hall today to protest the recent supreme court decision to overturn roe v. wade. among their demands, they are calling for alameda to become a

sanctuary city for those from other states who need an abortion or any other reproductive medical services. >> just because we live in california does not mean we cannot continue to fight this issue. it means we need to work together and collaborate. we need to support our peoples and states that do not want to support them. dion: the organization is also calling on the city of alameda to build a reproductive health facility so that those who need services do not need to drive to neighboring cities for help. president biden has a message for those protesting the decision on roe v. wade. >> keep making your point. it is critically important. dion: he offered encouragement during the bike ride in delaware. his administration continues to face pushback for not acting quickly enough. biden says he has asked his administration to consider whether he has the authority to declare abortion a public health

mission, they may not come back. reporter: at times a target, their vehicles riddled by artillery, and a passenger recently killed. >> it is frightening to have this happening during the war, but we ascertain that one driver is saving hundreds of lives. reporter: one life lost and hundreds more saved. >> there is still a large amount of other people in difficult conditions, and they have been waiting for their last chance. reporter: in the bay area, a local nonprofit is helping to fund these operations. >> we fund most of the gasoline to pay for drivers. in some cases, we have funded replacement vehicles after vehicles were destroyed. reporter: igor markov is the

it is on our website. once again getting back to the weather. spencer, you are making this motion earlier tonight. spencer: today was a hot day and it will be fairly warm in places overnight. let's take a look at the 24 hour temperature changes. today was a warmer day than yesterday, but it is much warmer right now than 24 hours ago. and lend, it was anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees warmer than yesterday night. the winds are calm just about everywhere. it is going to be a push of cooler marine air coming tonight. san francisco is currently 62 degrees as well as in oakland. san jose at 73. 50 four at half moon bay. looking back towards san francisco, other temperature readings right now at 59. we have mid 70's in fairfield,

concord, and livermore. a live view looking across the embarcadero and mainly clear skies. the fog will expand overnight and there is a good chance of patchy drizzle. hot again inland tomorrow, and we expect refreshingly cooler days by the middle of the week. overnight, we can expect to see low clouds pushing across the bay. you see the green dots indicating places where we expect to see some drizzle. it could be aggressive drizzle, so there may be a few damp roadways tomorrow for the morning commuters, but that fog will burn back quickly and we will have a rapid warm up tomorrow. the lows in the upper 50's to low 60's and that is quite mild for overnight. 90 is in san jose, the peninsula has highs of 88. it will be breezy and mild on

the coast. downtown san francisco with a maximum temperature of 72 degrees tomorrow. in the north bay, a wide range from upper 80's to low 90's. way up north, ukiah at 105 tomorrow. 82 hayward, 85 castro valley, and the inland east bay will have highs in the upper 70's. 99 at brentwood. it will be hot once again. here's the accuweather 7 day forecast. tomorrow will be the final day of the extreme heat and we have got a sharp cool down tuesday and wednesday. inland highs will only be around the mid 80's on the bay shoreline. inland highs will be back on the low 90's for the next day, but that is pretty normal for this time of year. we will get a little bit of cooling next sunday with highs only in the upper 80's inland.

>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. dion: the january 6 committee will hold its final two scheduled hearings this week. the first will include video testimony from former president trump's white house counsel, and there is a chance that steve bannon could testify in public as well. reporter: for the first time, the public is expected to hear from pat cipollone.

last week, the highly anticipated witness spent eight hours speaking with lawmakers behind closed doors. the baloney who was with president trump during the attack on the capital -- set baloney -- cipollone, who was with president trump during the attack on the capital, was mentioned by cassidy hutchinson multiple times during her testimony. adam kinzinger says cipollone's testimony did not contradict that of other witnesses. >> you will see a level of what he said and a lot of that in the report. at no point was there any contradiction of what anybody said. reporter: when asked about reports that president trump is waiving his claim of executive

privilege -- >> anybody that wants to come in to talk with the select committee, we will be welcome to have them. reporter: abc obtaining a letter , which says that mr. bannon prefers to testify at a public hearing. meanwhile, liz cheney who serves as the vice chair of the committee, says the hearings will give the public a chance to hear how the violent -- how the president incited violence at the capital and failed to stop the violence. dion: and abc news will provide live coverage of the january 6 hearings on tuesday and thursday. thursday's is supposed to start at 10:00 a.m. more news coming out of washington tonight as another high-profile politician has tested positive for covid.

senate majority leader chuck schumer announced through a spokesperson he was experiencing mild symptoms. schumer is vaccinated and double boosted as well. he will work remotely this week following the cdc guidelines. the senate is supposed to return from recess tomorrow. scary moments on a spirit airlines flight from tampa to atlanta today. one of the brakes on the landing gear overheated, causing the fire. the plane was towed to the gate and no one was hurt. moving onto gas prices, where the national average has gone down 13 cents in the last week. california's average is down to $6.09. san francisco's average prices are down 22 cents in the last

week. the suspect in the assassination of the former japanese prime minister was removed from the police station today. officials are releasing more details about the attack including the planning and the possible motive. bob woodruff has an update from tokyo. ime mihio abena of fo planned thator months. abe gunned down in broad daylight at a campaign event. seen here loitering before allegedly shooting abe from behind. officials are now investigating whether he attended a speech by the 67-year-old abe before the day of the attack. sources telling japanese media that the suspect test fired the gun before the martyr -- murder.

the gun was made from two metal pipes taped together, similar to a shotgun. officials say they seized several more homemade guns from the suspect's apartment. the suspected shooter confessed, telling investigators that he killed abe because he believed he was associated with religious groups that the suspect blamed for his mother's ruin. the candidate abe was campaigning for when he was shot one the election -- won the election. dion: u.s. secretary of state antony blinken left tokyo a few hours ago. sptso shinzo a a meet with he is now headed back to the u.s., though it is not clear if any members of the biden administration will be in japan

dion: what can happen when an artist, real estate firm, and property manager get together? they might have access to a number of storefronts in san francisco. reporter: san francisco is filled with empty storefronts. they played every neighborhood. on valencia street, this storefronts that -- set empty for two years until an artist passed by. rené took this 6000 square-foot space and turned it into an art gallery. the shows of the drawing room have themes. the latest one showcases artwork from san francisco high school students.

>> most of these students do not have an art class so they work on this at their own. reporter: the work of 250 high school students hangs from almost every space available. >> is exciting to see how people take it in. reporter: co-we has a self-portrait on display. -- chloe has a self-portrait on display. >> we want kids to feel that art is essential and it is what helps bring us together as humans. reporter: the drawing room host live events and musical performances. decarlo also hires high school entrance and they help staff the gallery. >> i learn how to urbanized the space and make it an environment for other artists. reporter: decarlo used to have a gallery in the mission but had

to close it up. this is once this property owner offered a deal. they offered to rent it for $100 a month. >> is done by the building owner, property manager, and a business that was struggling. reporter: decarlo has since developed another gallery in enrichment, but the rent has gone up. she has been funding -- fundraising to stay open. she is considering possibilities of a partnership like this. reporter: i encourage artists to find people who want their spaces to be rented. reporter: in san francisco, karina nova, abc 7 news. spencer: i love artists and museums. we have one more day of heat coming our way. let's look at what we expect to happen tonight.
