making sure we end these open-air drug markets. that we clear the streets. >> on tuesday morning, san francisco's new district attorney tour the tenderloin and met with leaders before speaking with the media. i asked her what her plan was for cleaning up streets like this one. jenkins says her first step is to try to get the dealers, especially those repeat offenders off the streets. >> i want to know what types of offers are on the table on the cases that are currently in our office so we can craft a policy that promotes more accountability. >> a lot of people say the da can only do so much and the police department will have to play a big role in stopping the open-air drug markets. >> you have to send a message to the police that making arrests will have a value because you're going to prosecute. >> even making those arrests can be difficult. on another street corner, abc 7 saw one officer get out of his

car and walk around the block both several people hurried away to others simply waited around until he presumably asked them to move. the director of the tenderloin housing clinic says while addressing the dealers is key, public officials need to figure out what to do with drug users especially those who review services. >> that is the question the city has to ask shared i would say you don't let them sit on the sidewalk on a public street like you would not let them be on union street. you should not let them be on any street. >> the previous district attorney has said as many as half of the drug dealers in san francisco are from honduras. some traffic here under pain of death. as a sanctuary city, san francisco has vowed to protect the undocumented. leanne joins us live. many are asking who is protecting the people dying on the streets everyday. >> that is a question we ask the mayor and the new d.a. after we

honduras who have been or will be harmed if they don't continue to pay off the traffickers who brought them here. >> back then he said solving the drug problem in the tenderloin would never be as simple as making more arrests or prosecuting more cases. today we asked the mayor who is protecting the people who are dying of drug overdoses on san francisco streets. >> it does not matter what race someone is. this is about the crime and holding people accountable for the crimes they commit on residents of the city. >> some type of dispute over something. >> there are residents who are bold enough to take a video of what happens when our cameras are not there like this altercation. >> put your windows down. >> or a fight between two groups of people. it means go at it as one man encourages them to fight it out. brooke jenkins replaced the district attorney. >> i'm sensitive to the

immigration issue. my father is from el salvador . i understand why it is important to take that into account but at the same time we cannot allow our residents to die on the street of overdose. we still have to hold those who sell drugs accountable and that is what i am committed to doing. >> jenkins said each case will be carefully looked at and they will prosecute a person not based on where they come from but on the crime they committed. i just want to say one more thing. yesterday i was reminded by someone who has witnessed this open drug scene that there is a saying in spanish which means charity begins at home. let me tell you after talking to many people out there, they are feeling it is finally time to take care of the folks here in the city. >> we put together a 30 minute

further medical treatment it was discovered some of the victims were struck by full rounds consistent with celebratory gunfire. they did not elaborate on how many victims were hit the mayor's office requested we direct questions to opd. kevin says his daughter is having the bullet removed wednesday. she knows it could have been much worse. >> there were several people behind us with young kids. >> father and daughter don't plan to write -- to attend more games anytime soon. kevin hopes by speaking out it sends this message to the public. > i think officials need to acknowledge the problem is much more dangerous then they are preparing it currently. about the chaos surrounding the coliseum. >> new developments in the battle between twitter and elon musk. twitter filed suit against musk to force the billionaire to complete his acquisition of the company. musk had agreed to by twitter

for 44 billion dollars but last week said he was dropping the deal. twitter filed the motion for an expert at a trial. they are asking for the case to be heard in september. >> firefighters from across the country are rushing to yosemite to help out of the washburn fire. that fire has charted more than 3200 acres. still burning in portions of mariposa grove where there are more than 500 giant sequoias. officials say the trees are secure for now. this comes as more resources arrive for their supporting the firefight. they have large tanks of fire retardant. a new 10,000 gallon portable water tank has been set up in the park. >> it is strategically placed so we can decrease the amount of time it takes for helicopter pilots to get their water, get over the fire, do their job and do it again. >> about 1600 people remain evacuated from the small community. the cause of the fire is under

his home to >> five or 10 minutes later i hear pop, pop. >> police say they got to the scene after 6:30 monday evening and they were able to identify the 83-year-old as of the suspect. >> they both lived in this mobile home park. i'm sure they knew each other. the motive and why this occurred we are still investigating. >> michael haney's a bit defender denied a request for an interview. neighbors tell me the suspect had been through his own tragedy. >> he lost his wife a couple weeks ago and he has not been the same since. >> i got the opportunity to speak with the wife of the victim who was too emotional to go on camera but shared with me she is going to miss her husband who has been her caregiver after an aco injury. -- an ankle injury. this marks the city of san jose 20th homicide of the year. a woman was arrested and charged with killing her husband by starting a house fire.

went back to normal. >> our view of the universe is expanding thanks to nasa's new telescope. four more images came out this morning. it is the deepest look at the cosmos ever captured. morgan norwood has a look. >> we can now see in high definition what was happening in the universe millions of years ago. nasa releasing more images from the james webb have also -- james webb telescope showing a gaseous planet outside of our solar system and two images of dying stars. also a cluster of thousands of galaxies dancing around each other. >> we might be seeing some of the first to form this image. we need to start doing the precise measurements. that is what we are all eager to do. >> the nearly $10 billion telescope peering into the universe deeper than humanity has ever seen. the use of the infrared light spectrum allows the telescope to see through cosmic dust. >> today for the first time we

are seeing brand-new stars that were previously completely hidden from our view. you sort of get the sense of depth and texture from this new data. >> as marvelous as the discovery is, it is just the beginning. the webb telescope help scientists study the earliest yelich sees, how our solar system formed and if there is light -- if there is life on other planets. >> this telescope embodies how america leads the world not by example of our power but the power of our example. it symbolizes the spirit of american ingenuity. >> the webb telescope was only scheduled to last about 10 years now holds enough capacity to operate much longer. >> coming up, we will have a look at the local connection to that telescope. these pictures are just breathtaking. >> they are stunning.

how do things look if you're looking to the stars today? will you be able to see them? >> not quite as clear as that but it does not take us $10 billion either. that is absolutely just jaw-dropping. there is a look from emeryville. the clouds are on their way back but they are not coming in quite as fast as they did yesterday. it was measurable along the coast. 300s in bodega bay. it could also fall in other areas but not become measurable. if you like today, you will love tomorrow. it is almost an exact replica. inland warming. that is where we are going to see the biggest changes in the forecast. we have another southerly push of mild air for most of us and look at that. the temperature at the coast jumped back up. it was down as cool as 55 when we had the northwest winds. that sets the stage for a little

moisture in the marine layer which means a little more drizzle. it is not litter temperatures fall quite as much as they normally would during the overnight hours. we had mid to upper 60's in half-moon bay in san francisco. 80's inland and even 91 in brentwood to temperatures in most areas are well below where they were yesterday. places like concord, livermore, fairfield where they are double digits. you can see the breeze coming up. it will go away about 9:00 tonight but we still have the small craft advisory from the golden gate through the delta. once that starts to taper at 9:00, we start talking about the coastal flood advisory coming in tonight at 10:45. there will be some minor flooding again. here is a look at what is going to happen during the evening hours. 61 to 73 at 3:00.

we have these two areas battling once again. this high and this low and the low is winning that is why we have the thicker marine layer and temperatures in the mid-50's to low 60's. upper 70's to mid 80's in the south day. maybe low to mid 70's for most of the peninsula. low to mid 60's along the coast and upper 60's for downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. 69 in berkeley. everyone else in the low to upper 70's. 81 to 87 in our inland east bay neighborhoods. when the high we have saved its dominance, it is going to be mainly in our inland neighborhoods. and linda we will start to head the upper 80's to low 90's thursday and friday. 90 saturday and when the high starts to lose out to the low, it will be our inland neighborhoods where temperatures are returned to normal. >> we are five days away from

we looked at 11 different parameters in three broad categories. one was mental health and physical health from cdc data to another was access to open spaces. city parks, national parks. and then we also looked at google trends. what kind of things are people searching for when it comes to health and wellness and how often are they searching for those things? when you put all that together, california did really well. mental health is good. physical health is good. obviously access to a lot of parks and stuff. what was interesting to me as an integrative medical doctor there just to know that californians, you guys are really into learning about health and wellness because you guys are all over google. i'm searching all kinds of stuff
