the district adding lincoln elementary, which you see right here, was the hardest hit. they are hoping somebody saw what happened and they will call police. meanwhile, walnut creek police say they have arrested a man in connection with a smash and grab robbery at macy's in broadway plaza. these pictures captured the aftermath of that heist on june 18. the suspect is in custody, identified as being 19 years old and from vallejo. ama: demand for the monkeypox vaccine is exploding in san francisco. for the second day in a row, there were lines down the street. 136 monkeypox cases have been confirmed in california. almost half are in san francisco. j.r. stone spoke to the people who are scrambling to get vaccinated. j.r.: people lined up outside of san francisco general hospital tuesday hoping to get the monkeypox vaccine. >> i was recently informed of a direct contact so yeah, i need

to get one. j.r.: these are monkeypox lesions. doctors say they are only some of the symptoms. >> the initial flulike symptoms, followed by a rash that does not seem to be explained in other ways are really important to take note of. j.r.: 60 monkeypox cases have been confirmed in san francisco, 929 across the country. >> it is spreading fastest right now within the networks of gay, bisexual and transgender people. this disease has nothing to do with sexual orientation and gender identity. this is a flexion of networks. j.r.: trish says his friend who has monkeypox lives in new york. >> they are pretty sick, lesions, fever. j.r.: they tell us they were unable to get the vaccine on tuesday due to the high demand. this week, san francisco health officials requested 35,000 monkeypox vaccines. last week, they received under 3000 because of that loan

number, they are trying to prioritize vaccines for those who have been in direct contact with someone suspected or confirmed to have monkeypox. someone who has received a notification about potential exposure or lab workers who handle monkeypox samples. many here were not expecting it to be this hard to get a vaccine. the monkeypox virus has recently been found to have a 3%-6% for tally rate -- 3%-6% fatality rate. >> i only recently found out about the spread of monkeypox. j.r.: j.r. stone, abc 7 news. >> a warning from australian health officials about covid-19 subvariants. re-infections from ba.4 and ba.5 are happening much faster than expected. a committee of australian doctors say immunity from ba.5 is lasting only 28 days, not

$44 billion. musk said he was going to terminate his bid because twitter had not given him information about fake accounts. twitter denies then fired back in its legal filing, sing elon musk apparently believes he is "free to change his mind, trash the company,, disrupt operations, destroy stockholder value and walk away." ama: in the north bay, part of a popular trail is closed because of a homeless cap. sonoma county parks announced the jo adell the trail between dunn avenue and stony point road is closed. it says the encampment is becoming a safety concern. the camp popped up recently and quickly grew in size. the trail has seen homeless camps before. in fact, there was one estimate to have well over 200 people living in it in early 2020. it was eventually cleared and the people were relocated. >> she immediately screamed and yelled "i'm hit!"

after the fireworks began. >> she immediately screamed and yelled, "i'm hit!" we could immediately see blood. i could see the pain that she was going through. dion: kevin's daughter was one of six people oakland police chief leronne armstrong said had been hit by celebratory gunfire from up to a mile away. >> these appear to be bullet fragments that may have come from guns being fired in another location. dion: the term fragments also used by mayor libby schaaf following the incident. >> it seems intentionally designed to minimize the seriousness of what happened in that area on a regular basis. dion: i spoke with a veteran firearms expert, who tells me this is not fragments, it is a complete bullet, most likely from an ak-47 or similar style weapon. i asked oakland police about the disparity in their messaging and kevin's daughter's x-ray. they said initially, bullet

fragments were believed to have caused all of the victims' injuries. it was discovered some of the victims were struck by full rounds. they did not elaborate on how the other victims were hit by bullets. the mayor's office requested we direct questions about the gunfire to opd. kevin says his daughter is having the bullet surgically removed wednesday. she knows it could have been much worse. >> there were several people behind us with young kids. dion: father and daughter do not plan to attend more games in the coliseum anytime soon. kevin hopes by speaking out, it says this message to the public. >> officials need to acknowledge that the problem is much more dangerous than they are portraying it currently about the chaos surrounding the coliseum. dion: in oakland, dion lim, abc7news. ama: san francisco's new district attorney is promising to crackdown on the tenderloin's open-air drug market. >> no longer love children

and families have to walk through the situations which i walked this morning, sing the drug dealing, the open drug use on the street. that is not something that we can tolerate in the tenderloin and he longer. ama: jenkins says that means prosecuting repeat offenders. she may also revoke plea deals that have been offered by her predecessor. jenkins says she will continue to walk the streets of the tenderloin to see if her policies are working to but will also work with san francisco police to track drug crimes and other neighborhoods. >> top san francisco officials say they will arrest drug dealers in the city, no matter where they are from. the new d.a., brooke jenkins, along with mayor london breed, vowed to crackdown on hand during -- pondering street gangs -- honduran street gangs dealing drugs in the city. he admitted that the staff of san francisco's drug dealers are from honduras but he balked at prosecuting them.
