key inflation metrics showing that inflation increased year-over-year in june -- each were down by 17. inflation is certainly making things difficult for consumers, it's not all bad news for the bay area. rent prices have not fully rebounded to pre-pandemic levels. san francisco and oakland are still enjoying lower rents brought on by covid. in san jose prices have started to rebound as temp workers returned to the office. >> we have seen increases in compensation to mitigate the impact of inflation. not to the extent that it is matching inflation. >> many bay area employers continued to be flexible when it comes to working from home. saving companies on gas and food.

>> nonprofits are trained to help people while also dealing with the impacts of inflation itself. >> inflation has been impacting all of us for months. the news is that it is now the highest in decades comes from those who have seen its impact firsthand. >> people coming to our distribution site are increasing again. >> she says they have nearly 500,000 people a month coming to them for help. now they are close to that again with near 450,000 people coming for help. >> this inflation is impacting people's budgets. 6% of the people that we serve have less than $100 in savings. if you add that to increase gas prices, increased prices -- increased food prices, people turn to us in order to pay their rent and to pay for childcare so that they can keep working.

at no point what i have imagined that i would be sitting here speaking to u.s. san francisco's district attorney. >> you have been in office for four days, one of the reasons that your predecessor was recalled was because of his bad relationship with san francisco police department. since you are here there is renewed hope that that will change, how what are you doing to repair that relationship? >> it takes communication, and letting them know that we want to work with them to ensure public safety in san francisco. >> you were chosen partly because of your comments of to reduce tort law in order to san francisco, how do you expect to do that? >> you need to do it one issue at a time. you need to address repeat and violent offenders first. that needs to be our main priority, so that we are addressing those that continually commit crime in san francisco and those that attack

people in a violent way and make sure that they are held accountable. i feel that we've created an environment where people are not held accountable for their actions. what policy specifically will be different under your leadership? >> i've talked to my team, and we are coming to conclusions about what our new positions will be. i don't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater. some of what the pred -- the previous administration was doing could be held on to, but a lot could be refined. >> what will you do to crackdown? facts we can no longer turn a blind eye to the way that property crime effects our life. those will be crimes that we will take more seriously. >> taking more seriously, how? >> we will not be trying to find the easiest way to get those cases off of our attorneys desks. >> san francisco suggests having

more private cameras. you are backing mayor libby schaaf's surveillance plan, some people are worried about privacy and some people are worried about safety, how do you think that these cameras will be useful in prosecuting cases? >> we want to make sure that at the das office we have the evidence necessary to bring perpetrators to justice. >> let's talk about your first meeting with your staff, it was described as icy and horrible. what happened from your perspective? >> any change in administration's new and uncomfortable for people, that's understandable. as i have said to them and as the article pointed out, i came into the room and extended my hand. i said that i no longer want us to be in office divided by who hired you.
