for the monkeypox vaccine in the bay area. supplies are close to running dry. from san francisco to berkeley, demand is running high. we are hearing nearly 10 hours is how long some people are waiting in line. the lowest time is four hours, both times are stunning. ryan curry is live with the latest on all of this. >> good morning. this is the tough reality a lot of people are facing. there is not a lot of vaccines available in the bay area. if you do find a spot to go and get one, the odds are you are going to be waiting for several hours to get one. think about what you have to do to just get in line in the first place. it's not easy for a lot of these people. it is a lot of major hurdles they are having to jump through. abc7news did go over to the berkeley side yesterday to see how the line was going over there. one person waiting in line for nine hours. that was the biggest extreme we

found. the catch over there at the berkeley site, people who paid membership fees got some sort of priority, meaning they went into a shorter line and were able to get there vaccine doses. we are talking about a vaccine that is in very short supply right now. here in san francisco, they claim to have about only 50 doses left of the vaccine. they are hoping to get more. that is the top spot people are in right now. people in berkeley say they are confused about what happened yesterday. >> if you paid to get in, there were assurances you would get a shot and it was a shorter line. >> there were employees who were walking around, telling folks waiting in line that if they paid to get in as a guest, they would be in a shorter line and they would be allowed to wait inside. ryan: that is the unfortunate

is getting hard-hit. >> the fda has authorized a fourth covid bactine -- covid vaccine. the two dose novavax maxing was 90% effective at preventing mild, moderate or severe covid vaccine. the cdc has to sign off on it before it will be available. they believe the vaccine could be significant because it is a more traditional protein-based vaccine instead of using mrna, which some americans are resistant to. it can be stored in regular refrigerators instead of supercold freezers and novavax says the vaccine shows broad immune responses against variants. >> the chp is looking for a driver of a double-decker bus that caught fire in south san francisco. video shows the bus on fire on highway 101 near grant avenue.

officers say no passengers were onboard, thank goodness. investigators are trying to find the driver of the bus who left the scene. we don't know yet what started the fire. >> san jose police, city leaders and school district officials are reacting to the discovery of a bunker near a school. the underground bunker was filled with $100,000 worth of stolen items and even firearms. it was discovered on tuesday. the entrance was at a homeless encampment along coyote creek, just blocks away. an elementary school was fitted with sensing and security cameras. authorities are discussing how safety measures must extend beyond school grounds. >> we have to work on the city and the county in terms of safety to and from school. >> six people were arrested,

jobina: kevin spacey has pleaded not guilty in london's old bailey central criminal court to charges of sexually assaulting three men. police say the alleged assaults took place in london between 2005 and 2008 and in western england in 2013. the victims are in their 30's and 40's. the judge has set a trial date of june of next year. the trial is expected to last three to four weeks. space he has been granted

simply not enough supply to go around for the demand to meet everything now abc 7 news went to berkeley yesterday to see a long line, it's steam. for many people trying to get a monkey pox vaccine some of us telling them they had to wait for several hours. one person particular said he waited for nine hours now in some cases people actually ended up paying money to wait in a shorter line that gave them quote unquote priority over those who didn't spend money now, this is an issue because we're talking about a vaccine that's already in very high demand. now the city berkeley says says that was not the intention when they been this clinic but those in line tell us that is exactly what happened the experience i had was very fortunate and i paid for it. i do think you know giving priority to their customers in this particular instance is a bit unethical. they have told us that they're

working to make sure that people in line know that there's no priority system. it's one thing if a mistake happens once what you absolutely don't want is to have a mistake happen twice. and so there's clearly something that happened today that there are some misperceptions and it's hard to know exactly what happened. now abc 7 did reach out to steamwork bass multiple times yesterday and we have not heard back yet. now the city says they issued 500 shots. but again, that was a very strange circumstance considering that some people had to wait for multiple hours or pay to still wait multiple hours to get one of these vaccines that shows you just the struggle it takes for a lot of these people trying to get this vaccine right now and as you mentioned out of vaccines here in san francisco and no really clear message as to when they're going to get more shipments or more supplies from the federal government as to when they can get more vaccine supply to meet this incredibly high demand right now.
