hardest. for 23 years, it has styled up san francisco. but today, the owner is bracing to say goodbye to her most popular star nestled in no he valley. >> from an emotional standpoint, it is the end of an era. 23 years, it is a big deal. but it was a business decision. >> during the pandemic, the landlord was generous reducing rent. but it would be 70% more expensive to go back to the pre-covid lease price. >> the pre-covid price of the lease would have been more than we could afford now. >> she lost the lease and the building sold. a reality hitting small businesses across san francisco, especially in retail. >> are retail foot traffic has gone down since 2019. >> emily abraham says small businesses make up 93% of the business community.

a majority of them are facing rising rent. >> rent is rising, small business owners are not seeing foot traffic or consumer spending they needed to meet the demands of increased rent and inflation. >> the analysis of data found since january 2021, rent has gone up 14% in san francisco. inflation was 1.4%. today it is 9.1%. the slower pace of the pandemic has come at a cost for both o'leary and her dedicated customers. >> it is sad to see them go. >> i got my prom dresses, my sisters like prom dresses, graduation dresses. r erfo>> chainacorcolored with g signs. >> our loyal customers. >> as hundreds of customers lined up the streets to shop and say goodbye.

california. los angeles county on pace to require masks indoors again two weeks from now. the county is in the high level of covid-19 activity. if the county stays at the level for the next two weeks, officials will bring back the mass mandate. bay area counties are currently in the high category. we reached out to officials and they told us they are not planning for a mandate. new developments in bony ship. the hermann fire is 100% contained. firefighters remained at the scene to mop up hotspots and fire the area. they burned 115 acres near lake hermon. no homes were threatened and no evacuation orders ever in place. air quality officials advising some residents in eastern contra costa county to stay indoors with windows and doors closed. the marsh fire is smoldering and sending smoke six weeks after it started. the fire burning into large amounts, decaying vegetation.

they say it is hard to get to and virtually impossible to put out. peak fires are left to burn themselves out over time. and air-quality advisory in place through at least tomorrow. >> liska check on the weather with sandhya patel. how does it look? >> it is a bit hazy across parts of the bay area. here is a life picture from the east bay hills camera. you can see the haze. air quality expected to remain good friday and saturday. costa county isstean co important. extended through tomorrow. winds easing overnight, pollution levels expected to go up. you can see toward the marsh fire, moderate air quality in parts of the region. 89 degrees near the fire. south-southwesterly winds pushing the smoke. wind is will get gusty. don't be surprised if you see smoke in your area.

that is why the air district extended the air quality advisory. heat will be building. not everyone has air conditioning. temperatures will be coming up. hard to breathe saturday. might want to get a fan. if you have to close the windows to keep the smoke out, you want to remain safe. >> the washburn fire in yosemite national park has grown to nearly 4400 acres. crews have increased containment to 23%. shayla from our sister station has an update on the effort to protect the giant sequoias and what visitors need to know heading into the weekend. >> by air and by land, crews are continuing to battle the washburn fire. >> it is all a concern. it is safe, we have crews cleaning or mopping up any hotspots around the perimeter. >> in preparing for the weekend

disease will spread to the general population. >> many people don't think that will happen. if we don't nip it in the bud, there is that possibility. >> tim johns, abc7 news. >> the san francisco aids foundation announced it will hold a vaccination event this weekend to vaccinate about 500 people who may have been exposed to monkeypox. appointment have been filled from a waitlist of more than 2700 people. no walk-ins will be accepted. monkeypox testing capacity nationwide is increasing. it will soon be up to 70,000 tests a week. they will accept specimens from anywhere in the country and perform testing at the labs in nashville. anyone with a rash looking like monkeypox should talk to their provider if they should get tested, even if they don't think they had contact with someone who has it. tracking the latest information about monkeypox cases. testing and vaccines as well. find the story on abc7news.com.
