good morning. it is friday, july 15. we will get a check of your accuweather forecast from lisa argen. lisa: welcome to friday in the middle of july. we are starting out with a sunrise. another nice long day with a lot of sun to enjoy. you will notice there is fog along the san mateo coast. not far inland, we are looking at a warm up in the upper elevations above the inversion. we are already seeing 70's with relative humidity in the single digits. 54 in san francisco, 57 in san jose. upper 40's in santa rosa. a cooler start. we will talk about a warmer saturday. jobina: now to the latest on the hunt for monkeypox vaccines in the bay area. doses in one county are being

offered but only by invitation. we are live in san jose with the latest. >> good morning. the people in santa clara county want monkeypox vaccinations can get it but by invitation only. the santa clara county public health department said it has only received 742 vaccines for the entire county. with such short supply to meet increasing demand, the health department said it is aligning with the latest cdc strategy to prioritize vaccination for people at the highest risk first. those in direct physical contact with someone with monkeypox. santa clara county reported it first case in june. there are 11 known cases in the county. thursday afternoon, it had already vaccinated 30 people who fit this criteria. the white house plans to release 1.5 million doses in the coming months.

experts say the u.s. will need closer to 4 million. public health officials point out monkeypox will likely not become the next covid-19. it is not is contagious in the vaccines and testing have been available for years. >> we do not have to go through the process of developing a new vaccine. it is just scaling up inventory. the rollout was pretty bad. i think they will ramp up quickly. >> health officials and epidemiologists to the general population remains low. they will expand eligibility once they receive more vaccination. jobina: we are tracking all the latest information about monkeypox cases, testing and vaccines in the bay area on our website, abc7news.com. reggie: thousands of dollars worth of these collectible dolls

are missing after they were stolen from a home. they are known as blythe dolls and are awfully loosely associated with paintings from the 1960's. here is j.r. stone. >> if you are not familiar with the so-called blythe dolls, do not feel bad, they are not sold in many stores. take a good look because all 12 were stolen from a home in oakland. >> they are very unique. they are about as tall as a barbie doll but they have a large head with unique eyes but have a lot of emotion and character. >> the dolls belong to this woman in oakland, who is a collector. these dolls have quite the history. originally released in 1972 as a rival to barbie but inspired by betty boop. paintings have swept the nation. for her, this is her passion, creating scenes for her 12

characters, showcasing that on social media and in schools. >> they are part of my life, work and art. they brought a lot of joy and happiness to a lot of people and kids, especially during times of covid. >> in less than two hours during a family move, her dolls, characters, loves stolen. the blythe dolls only lasted one year in the 1970's over concerns about them being too scary for children, they made a comeback. >> in 2001, it became a much bigger deal in japan. they are all about the american culture. they love the big eyes and they have an appreciation for it. depending on their condition, they can range anywhere from $500, less than that if you are lucky and find one at goodwill. they can go all the way up to

$3000, $4000, $5,000. they are worth a lot of money. >> she said many of her dolls were custom-made by artists in ukraine, poland and spain. she is offering what she calls a large reward and remains optimistic that the thief will have a change of heart. >> the dolls have this whole life in suitcases and now they have been stolen. it is like to have been kidnapped. please, somebody, no questions asked, please return them. >> j.r. stone, abc 7 news. jobina: san francisco police have arrested a man accused of organizing a massive retail theft operation. it was suspected he was making up to $500,000 a year from selling stolen goods. he would get the items from thieves who would steal them from store shelves and then he would sell them online to people all over the country. investigator said they found

$200,000 in the room he rented near san francisco's glen park. >> going into the bedroom, these items here were way more organized than they are right now. he had it set up like it was the storage for the back of a drugstore. jobina: police were able to track down the suspect through some of the stores that were hit. reggie: developing news out of shasta county. a fast-moving wildfire as force people out of their homes. the fire has burned 300 acres near the city of anderson. mandatory evacuations are underway and a set up -- west valley high school. 12 structures have burned and containment is at 25%. the washburn fire is burning in yosemite. a study air attack is helping crews make progress. containment is going up. they are at 27%. the fire has burned already nearly 4400 acres.

it has crossed into the sierra national forest, prompting road closures. the highway 41 entrance in yosemite is closed. jobina: an air quality advisory has been extended in eastern contra costa county because of this, the marsh fire has been smoldering in decaying vegetation in a pittsburg marsh for about six weeks. smoke has been covering pittsburg and surrounding areas. >> when i was driving to work on the weekend, it got so bad i had to turn my lights on. you need an n95. >> contra costa fire officials say these fires are virtually impossible to put out. they are considering flooding the marsh. mideast mission. president biden traveling to saudi arabia today. what the white house says is on the agenda with his meeting with the saudi crown prince. reggie: an actress goes back to

reggie: two men from illinois are free this morning after spending 35 years in prison. [applause] reggie: the men were just teenagers when convicted of arson and murder in 1986. an early morning fire truck the lives of two young men appeared both claim police beat a confession out of them.

with the latest cdc strategy to prioritize vaccination for people at the highest risk first, those who have been in direct physical contact with someone with monkeypox. there are currently 11 known cases in the county as of thursday afternoon. it has already vaccinated 30 people who fit the criteria. a california state senator issued a statement saying the u.s. government knew about a possible monkeypox spread in 2010. he said in 2019, the fda approved a vaccine but the u.s. ordered only enough vaccinations to vaccinate 28,000 people. that is one reason for the current shortage. the concern of the local level is spread of the virus that could have been prevented. >> it tells us there are more cases, chains of transmission we have not identified and ongoing spread. >> coming out of covid, you do not know what can happen.

statement saying we are veering toward a public health mess of uncontrolled monkeypox spread in our community and other communities. the white house has promised to have 2 million doses available by the end of this year or next year. 800,000 of them are supposed to arrive by the end of this month. there are nearly 1500 confirmed monkeypox cases nationwide. that is likely and undercount. we are tracking the latest information about monkeypox cases, testing and vaccines in the bay area on abc7news.com. jobina: now to the pandemic. new concerns about the very transmissible ba.5 subvariant. covid deaths in the u.s. are up 10% in the last week. 3/4 of americans are living in areas that are medium or high risk of covid transmission. dr. fauci: the thing about ba.5 that is concerning is that can escape some immune protection

you get from prior infection as well as vaccination. jobina: the cdc is urging people to reconsider masking indoors or based on individual risk. vaccines are still recommended is a good defense. the cdc says it could authorize a new vaccine from novavax as soon as next week. the company claims data shows its vaccine induces an immune response against all covid variants, including ba.5. reggie: a man has died in a fiery crash after his car collided into a tree and then hit another car in antioch. it happened yesterday near contra loma boulevard. the road is stentorian for dragracing. the driver, passenger and other passenger were treated for minor injuries. both cars were speeding before the deadly crash. >> this particular area comes down from a slope, motorists tended to get a lot of speed. once we get more details, we are

still looking at the evidence. reggie: the road is lined with memorials from other crashes. antioch police said the are working to crack down on people driving recklessly. jobina: and oakland man who mailed two homemade bombs targeting law enforcement has been -- 40 years in prison. according to the chronicle, both devices detonated, injuring two people who turned out not to be the intended victims. attorneys asked the judge for the minimum 30 year sentence, saying he suffers from severe mental illness. reggie: oakland police are looking for more possible victims with a woman charged with molesting teenage boys. she has been charged with 21 felonies. she committed sex crimes against multiple teenagers. she met them through family and friends.

the bottom of the staircase in her new york apartment. police are investigating whether she fell and if she did if the fall contributed to her death. she married the former president the 1970's and helped build his empire before they divorced. she is survived by her three children with the former president. she was 73. the secret service is denying it intentionally deleted text messages possible linked to last year's insurrection act the capitol. the text messages were from january 5 and january 6 of 2021. the secret service says it happened because of a previously scheduled device replacement program. they said the messages lost had nothing to do with the investigation. reggie: tonight's mega millions jackpot at an estimated $480 million. last time apprise with this date

elementary school is bringing in star wars-like methods to keep kids hydrated. water that comes through the air. at kelly elementary, students and staff can fill up from this sky well system. the founder of the tech said it works by drawing in air and creating condensation that drops into a tank. it is cleaned and dispensed in the principal hopes it will teach a lesson and sustainability. reggie: facebook is hoping a feature -- there will be a main profile by the name the person regularly goes by. the rest can be as unique and creative as you please. the others can be used for specific interests or relationships, close friends, coworkers or hobbies. facebook said if the user violence guidelines on any profiles, they can impact the entire account.
