but the president's critics the morning are sharply disagreeing. president biden meeting with middle eastern leaders in saudi arabia. but it is this meeting and this photo with saudi crown prince mo mohammed bin salman that is sparking outrage back home. it is the image the saudis had hoped for and the white house had hoped to avoid. as a candidate biden pledged to make saudi arabia a par rye yeah for the chilling of jamal khashoggi. the two met for almost two hours but did not take questions. >> president biden, is saudi arabia still a pariah? >> the crown prince just smiling. president biden saying he did raise khashoggi's murder at the very top of their

meeting. >> it is inconsistent with who we are and who i am. >> reporter: the crown prince's response? >> he basically said that he was not personally responsible for it. i indicated i thought he was. >> reporter: but the condemnation was shift, khasoggi's employer, "the washington post," calling the fist bump shameful. >> you are coming under a lot of fire for your fist pump for the crown prince. >> i'm sorry she feels that way. i was straightforward back then. i was straightforward today. >> reporter: now, the president defended this trip arguing it was important for regional security and to lower gas prices back home. he said americans could see the impact of this trip and begin to see some relief in the coming weeks. >> mary, thank you. now to the latest on the pandemic. cases across the country rising to levels not seen since the winter months. phil lipof is in new york with the very latest.

phil, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, white. i think it's safe to say that nobody wants to get up the morning and hear that cases are rising two years into this pandemic, but that's the reality. we are seeing 124,000 new infections daily now. that's up 16% from last week. that makes it the highest daily infection rate since february. here in new york city alone, the highest daily infection rate since january. every region in the country now seeing rising hospitalizations. nationally up 14% since last week to the highest level since early march. in the last seven days alone, nearly 2,500 people have died. and the infection numbers are likely significantly undercounted as we have been reporting. dozens of states have already shut down testing sites and more and more people, most people really, are testing with those at home test kits and not reporting if they're positive. as for vaccinations, nearly

welcome back. let's get right to our cover story. it's a gma parenting alert. a wisconsin family speaking out after losing their nine-year-old after they say she participated in this so-called black-out challenge on tick court. now they're taking the social media giant to court and they're speaking out on gma for what they want other parents to know. for this family, things haven't been the same since the devastating loss of their nine-year-old daughter. >> just the sadness i see in my son's eyes, singing happy birthday to his sister at her grave, it's very hard for all of us. but this is the life now that we have to adjust to. we sat at a table of four chairs we sit now at three. >> reporter: the participants speaking out exclusively to abc news about a tiktok challenge called black-out in which children choke themselves until they pass out. >> if you see something online

and you see people framing it as fun or a challenge or something interesting, you're sort of gamefying and decreasing people's perceptions of the risk. >> reporter: taking part in the fatale trend last february. >> we just never thought there was a darker side to, you know, what tiktok allows on its platform. >> we don't want no other children out there to be in this situation again. >> reporter: a tiktok spokesperson referring abc news to a statement the company released last year about a challenge saying it predates the platform and has never been a trick tok trend. we remain vigilant to user safety and would immediately remove related content if found. our deepest sympathies go out to the families for their tragic now. now calling for justice, filing a lawsuit earlier this month against tiktok. >> it is the case about saving kids.

>> well, the most important thing is just how deadly this tiktok blackout challenge is and how predictable it was. >> reporter: this latest incident not the only case that has surfaced from the tiktok challenge. last july a texas eight-year-old was also found dead from recreating the short video. in pennsylvania, a ten-year-old girl died last december after attempting that very same tiktok challenge. >> so much of this is talking to kids, especially young kids, about the transition from the virtual world to reality. that basically what they see online just like cartoons or movies, may not actually be real. >> reporter: their plan to continue to live their lives honoring their daughter. >> i live every day of my life in her honor because every day of my life as a mother i'm surviving the day because this

and she has the top tips. first, a lot of makeup offers spf protection. but is it enough? >> yeah. makeup with sunscreen seems like the ultimate multitasking move. foundations that have sunscreen in them. and they do offer some protection. but the thing is we don't use them the same way we do regular sunscreen. we're not getting enough protection. so really you want to start with a sunscreen lotion or moisturizer, the bare minimum 30 or higher and look for broad spectrum protection, which means it covers the uva and uvb rays. >> both of them. >> yeah. all of these have those. so from neutrogena, we have a sheer option. which has spf 60, which is great. if you are going to pool or you are going to work, we have you covered. this line is amazing. if you need some moisture, that could also be your moisturizer. and then black girl sunscreen, this is great because it won't

it doesn't work that way. you are going to get some protection. it is great to look for spf 30 or higher. now you can find a lot of formulas that have those higher sunscreen levels. we have a cc cream here from it cosmetics which gives your skin a nice glow. it's spf 40. it comes in all shades. >> that's good. we have a great bargain from e.l.f. cosmetics. that's $15, which is a steal. >> a steal, yeah. >> literally a steal. and then tower 28, that is great. it is minimal. for sensitive screen, that's a great product. >> and you can put those over the first layer. >> start here. >> got to remember that. okay. finally, how often should we be reapplying for touch-ups or to get the best coverage and not ruin our makeup in the process? >> we're supposed to be reapplying every two hours. which is sort of hard to -- i know. so it is key. see, if you have another sunscreen product you keep with you that's portable so you remember to do a touch-up. >> i'm going to peek around. >> yeah. so a compact like this, that's like a tint you can just put on
