already reacting. good morning everybody. reggie: we check in with lisa for a look at the forecast. lisa: it is a quiet start grade we have patchy fog that has formed around the bay area. monsoonal moisture is going to bring partly cloudy skies. you can see the clearview from our exploratorium camera. it is milder to start. patchy fog at the coast in the 60's. kumasi: new information about an investigation happening overnight in oakland. police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run between 61st and 62nd avenues.

officers found a 60-year-old man lying in the road. he died at the scene. investigators are now looking for someone who drove off either in a white or silver pickup truck. we will let you know as soon as we learn more information. reggie: a protest is planned to demand more doses of the monkeypox vaccine. the city health department says it needs 30 5000 doses. the federal government has only agreed to send an additional 4000 at this point. the vaccine is in short supply across the country. the problem was in full view at a vaccination event the san francisco aids foundation yesterday. they had just 500 doses but a waiting list of 3000 people. >> the fact that it's going to take until the end of this year to get 2 million doses out is frightening. reggie: state senator scott weiner says he spoke to nancy pelosi about monkeypox. he says pelosi is advocating to

federal health agencies to move faster to obtain more doses. we have everything you need to know about monkeypox including vaccines and treatment. jobina: you won't have to wear a mask on bart anymore starting today. bart is dropping its mask mandate requirement again. lena helen is live with the details. >> some say they couldn't wait to take their masks off with public transit being one of the last place is still required masks. others say the risk of getting covid is still too high to be taking masks off right now. back in april all federal, state and local mandates required masks on public transit were lifted. a week later at the board of directors unanimously approved their own mask mandate which

expires today. this comes at a time when covid cases are rising because of an extremely contagious subvariant called ba.5. experts say the pandemic is far from over. we spoke with one bart rider. >> i personally don't think so because of the heavy foot traffic the city gets and just personally around the whole bay area. i think covid isn't completely over so it's smart to still say safe and wear your mask. >> free masks will still be available for anyone who wants one at all station agent booths and from a safety staff. bart officials told us they could reinstate this mandate if the current uptick in covid cases continues. reggie: friends and family are remembering a 28-year-old man killed in a shooting at a

livermore bowling alley. 28-year-old antonio vargas was having a night out with friends when he was shot saturday evening. his father since he was proud of his son who was a daca recipient from mexico. he recently started his own carpet cleaning business. the shooting happened after a fight in the bar area. gunshots hit three people, killing antonio. witness was stuck at a stoplight the morning of the shooting. >> all these young adults were running in different directions. i was thinking to myself what's going on. reggie: police have not made any arrests or released a description of the suspect. jobina: another mass shooting in america. three people are dead and many others hurt outside the mall in indianapolis. a man armed with a rifle opened

fire inside a food court before he was shot and killed by an armed shopper. police say the person who took down the shooter was a 22-year-old man from a nearby county. >> the real hero of the day is the citizen that was lawfully carrying a firearm in that food court and was able to stop the shooter almost as soon as he began. jobina: police say they will have more information about what happened later today. reggie: a man accused of shooting a mt. view police officers in jail. police released this photo the suspect. he is accused of shooting the officer during a traffic stop early saturday morning. the suspect crashed his suv more than a mile away and ran away. >> we eventually were able to locate him today in the east

bay. with the assistance of u.s. marshals service will is a ton of other law enforcement agencies we were able to locate him and to take him into custody this afternoon. reggie: the injured officer is expected to survive. the department posted a special thank you on social media. jobina: chp is investigating after a car ended up submerged in water in oakland. the driver side ended up in the water. cruise got him out and he was taken to the hospital. no word on his condition. reggie: systemic failures in the uvalde school massacre. the main takeaways from new body cam footage revealing more poor decisions from law enforcement. the reason police say you should plan to avoid the area for the next three days. and a food delivery fee battle. grubhub and doordash now saying your food orders are unfair to them.

reggie: some relief for people living near the washburn fire. people in the community were allowed to go back home over the weekend. the highway 41 entrance to yosemite is now closed. crews have successfully kept flames away from ancient sequoia trees. more than 4800 acres have already burned since it started july 7. lisa: weather-wise the heat not using in the sierra. in our neighborhood east bay values -- valleys that he did not really easing. still another hot day. we are kind of stuck in those summer doldrums. fog not very prevalent this morning. but it is beginning to form out

reggie: opening arguments beginning the sentencing phase of the parkland school shooting. the shooter is facing the death penalty. he pleaded guilty to killing 17 people and hurting 17 others at marjory stoneman douglas high school in your high school -- senior high school in 2020. the defense will focus on his mental health and upbringing. jobina: a blistering new report on the deadly shooting in uvalde. it shows more than 400 law enforcement officials who responded to the shooting failed to follow their active shooter training. we want to warn you, some of this is very difficult to watch. >> new bodycam video showing officers initially responding to calls of shots fired at robb elementary school. the camera warned by police

officer shows him arriving minutes after the gunman got inside the adjoining classrooms were 19 students and two teachers were killed. they draw back after taking gunfire from the suspect. he tells others to go in. surveillance shows law enforcement did not enter for more than an hour. the video released by the mayor of uvalde the same day a scaling new report was published which found officers took a lackadaisical approach with egregiously poor decision-making and nuclear leadership among the 376 officers who responded. >> if there's only one thing i can tell you, there were multiple systemic failures. >> the officers failed to prioritize saving the lives of innocent victims over their own safety. it's possible that some victims could have survived if they had not had to wait 73 additional minutes for rescue.

the report also criticizing the school in hopes of getting other schools up to date. >> robb elementary was not adequately prepared for the risk of a school shooter. >> whatever i see in this report is not going to bring my son back. >> the shooter attended fourth grade inside room 111 where the shooting happened. his former teacher testifying he was bullied that year. jobina: police are asking to avoid the port of oakland. truckers are protesting a new law. they say they will have to pay thousands of dollars in extra insurance and license costs.supe truckers with better working conditions. the supreme court denied a

motion to hear the truckers response. reggie: san francisco looking to make a deal with delivery services grubhub and doordash. both companies filed a lawsuit calling the 15% cap on fees unconstitutional. they have caused that legislation and will dismiss it if the new ordinance is amended. this proposal preserves the 15% cap for basic services but allows restaurants to waive the cap to pay higher commissions from marketing and better visibility on these apps. jobina: we put goats to work by having them eat dry brush to prevent fires from spreading. a winery is using docs to keep pests -- ducks to keep pests at bay.

have been in contact with russian forces giving them information. the suspended officials have not commented on the accusations. reggie: danville's hot summer sun days car show returned after two years. show first started 24 years ago. it features hundreds of hot rods and classic cars in downtown danville. there were rare one-of-a-kind collector cars and classic and muscle cars along with live music and awards for the favorite collector vehicles. another hot summer sunday event is scheduled for august 21. jobina: north bay bakery that has made oprah's favorite things list four times is coming to the east bay. the bakery will be able to see to 50 customers indoors. it's expected to have a patio. the owners say their expansion plans have been in the works for more than a year. reggie: san francisco is trying

out some new pricey prototypes for the future of the city's trash cans. they were quite controversial when they were first unveiled last year. they cost between 10000 and $20,000 each. city officials say they can prevent trash overflow and keep people from digging through the garbage. the chronicle reports the cans are the streets this week. each trashcan will be in two different locations during the 60 day pilot. i was telling you that i saw it at dolores park while a man was digging through it. which was supposed to be what these would prevent. so. jobina: i feel like we all knew that wasn't going to always work. but it's a pilot program. reggie: correct. jobina: closer than ever at a

mid and upper 80's inland and by later on we got cool 70's along the bayshore. it's going to be a slow cool down. we'll talk about it in detail in a few minutes. reggie: part of building a better bay area involves focusing on your health. masks are no longer required on bart starting now. bart is lifting that mask mandate even as covid cases continue to go up in the bay area. lena holland is live in the newsroom. >> this is being lifted while covid cases in the bay area are surging once again. riders we spoke with had mixed thoughts on being able to take masks off once again. this is the second time in three months bart has lifted its mask requirement.

back in april all domestic mandates -- the mask mandates were lifted. board of directors unanimously approved their own mask mandate which expires today. this comes at a time when doctors say the worst covid subvariant is here and it's never been easier to get infected even if you are vaccinated. we spoke with a bart writer -- rider who said she couldn't wait to take her mask off. >> i personally think it's fine. most people are double vaccinated if not more. i feel good school. >> in general i feel like everyone has had it at this point. just go home and quarantine and if you don't, live your own life. >> bart officials told us they could reinstate this mandate if the current uptick in covid

helpful in raising their spirits. the students have all received their diplomas from san diego -- san leandro high school. reggie: four oakland firefighters were hurt when two ladder trucks collided. they were responding to a fire in a vacant pg&e building. the fire department says the firefighters were taken to the hospital not seriously hurt. no word on what caused the collision. jobina: the ntsb and the faa are involving a deadly crash involving two planes at the north las vegas airport. one of the planes was coming in for a landing one hit another plane could both fell to the ground with one catching fire on impact. the other fell into a water retention pond. there were two people in each plane. all four of them died.

at least two people were injured in this emergency landing over the weekend. there was a family in one car at the red light when a driver noticed a plane headed for them. he drove forward avoiding the aftermath that caused a road closure for hours. reggie: jury selection begins today in the trial of steve bannon. he faces contempt charges for refusing to cooperate with the investigation into the january 6 insurrection. he claimed executive privilege despite the fact that he stopped working for the white house for years before the insurrection. records show that bannon spoke with trump twice on the day before the attack, saying this on his podcast january 5. >> all hell is going to break loose tomorrow. this is going to be the misdemeanor from hell.

reggie: prosecutors expect to take just one day to present their case. brandon faces up to two years in prison if found guilty. deleted secret service text messages are going to be handed over to the committee investigating the insurrection by tomorrow. investigators will go through the text to see if there's anything of value. >> we need all the texts from the fifth and sixth of january. i was shocked to hear they didn't back up their data before they reset their iphones. that's crazy. i don't know why that would be. but we need to get this information to get the full picture. reggie: the department of homeland security says the messages were raised as part of a planned migration. they said none of the messages were related to the investigation. then they said some of them might be pertinent.

years since college freshman kristin smart went missing. prosecutors are trying to prove her murder despite never finding her body. paul flores and his father ruben are on trial. they were the last people seen with smart. his father is accused of helping hide her body behind his home. later digging up her remains to move them. she was 19 years old when she disappeared. reggie: more than 750,000 dollars was raised during aids walk in san francisco. the first in person gathering for the walk since covid hit. the message, don't forget about this other pandemic.

the giant is pausing work on six office buildings outside of seattle and nashville. amazon says it still plans to hire thousands of workers in the area. the company calls the offices long-term investments says it wants to make sure the spaces are designed to meet employees needs in the future. futures in the stock market were rising slightly ahead of some big earnings reports from major companies including netflix. san francisco-based twitter will also share earnings for the second quarter on friday. the european central bank is expected to raise interest rates for the first time in 11 years. the u.s. federal reserve is signaling it will raise interest rates once again during its meeting next week. taking a live look at the new york stock exchange. we are up almost 300 points. jobina: the happiest place on earth celebrated its 67th birthday. disneyland opened in anaheim with 20 attractions.

it was designed and built under the direct supervision of walt disney. to mark the occasion, park visitors enjoyed some magical treats yesterday. there were birthday cupcakes. disney is the parent company of abc 7. a homeowner in southern california found two intruders eating her donuts. i think if she wanted to get the recording, she could have left the phone and gone upstairs and called for help. a mama bear and her cub broke into a home. the homeowner says the bear removed the screen from an open window. mama bear and the cub headed straight to the kitchen and discovered donuts. homeowner made loud noises and the bears scurried away.
