she goes, daddy, can we keep him? [ laughter ] >> kerry: you're like, keep who? >> i went, oh god. i look. she's showing me, of course, little turbo. and then lauren set it up nicely. "daddy's got to meet turbo." i went to go meet turbo. beautiful little dog, beautiful little puppy. and he -- so this is how amazing i think the universe and god works. >> kerry: amen. >> in amazing ways. he was going to get euthanized. >> kerry: oh. >> and so my wife took my daughters to this arts and crafts place. they left the arts and crafts place. true story. they smelled what they thought was doughnuts. and this was over the weekend. so my little daughters were like, let's follow our noses! they started walking down a sidewalk to where they thought it was, strip mall. no doughnut place no sweets, nothing. they're like, wow, this is really weird. they look, and there is this adoption agency, wag more, in front of them.

they walk in. lauren says, well, we're here, do you have any puppies? they bring out turbo. i go meet turbo a few hours later. i'm speaking to the woman. all wonderful staff. they were telling us not only was he going to get euth noised -- not there, but at another place, and they rescued him. a family came the day before to get turbo, fell in love, we'll take him. went to get the papers, came out, the family left. what happened? so he was just left alone again. >> kerry: he was meant to be yours. >> he was meant to be, so we have turbo now. [ cheers and applause ] >> kerry: oh my gosh, i love that, that's so sweet. >> yes. >> kerry: we've seen you in so many films play this incredible action hero. but you are going to play a superhero, a real superhero, for the first time. can you tell us about that? >> i'd love to. he is the anti-hero known as black adam. >> kerry: black adam! [ cheers and applause ] black adam, look at that. oh!

>> i am so excited about that. and there are a lot of excited people for this movie. >> kerry: yes. >> the dc universe. >> kerry: he's a bit of an anti-hero? >> he is, he's an anti-hero. what i always like about black adam, for those who don't know, he was blessed with the powers of superman across the board. the difference is superman's biggest weakness is magic. it's one of his greatest strengths. and with superheroes and superman, there's a code of honor, an ethics, as you know if you follow that. they won't kill the bad guys. black adam? >> kerry: he don't care? >> cancel christmas. [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause ] >> kerry: cancel christmas, i love that. and i'm assuming that kevin hart will be in this one too? >> yes. there's a running joke. i'm black adam in the movie and i'm bringing kevin on as honky pete. [ cheers and applause ] so earlier tonight, you and your business partner, dany garcia, were at the espys. >> yes. >> kerry: you are both co-owners of the xfl. >> yes. >> kerry: you've partnered with the nfl league -- that means means a lot so me and my family. >> of course. >> kerry: tell me a little bit about what you've got cooking with the xfl and the nfl. >> xfl is our spring league which we acquired a few years ago. we wanted to take our time, do it right. we started a collaboration with the nfl. the nfl alumni academy is great, by the way. basically it goes like this. the nfl has an alumni academy that if you don't roster throughout the nfl season, you automatically get a contract to

go to the xfl. >> kerry: wow. >> yeah. so those players who didn't roster in the nfl will come to us, xfl. we'll have a full spring season with a championship game at the end. the nfl coaches will be able to evaluate, watch game play. then if they're ready, they'll go on to the nfl in the fall. so yeah, it was very, very special. [ cheers and applause ] very cool, very cool. >> kerry: it must mean so much to you as somebody who was in that same exact position. >> it does. i -- my goal and my dream was to play pro football. i went to university of miami, played with some great players, great teams. thank you very much. but my goal was to make it in the nfl. and i like to say that there are 53 men on an nfl roster, as you know. i was always number 54. i was that guy that the coaches said, "d.j., you're good but you're not good enough." unfortunately, this is where the dream ends. so that, being told you're not

good enough, for something i've worked so hard for. like your husband, right? for years, decades. a decade. and being told, you're not going enough, this is where it independents. the chip that put on my shoulder and the fire and the drive has led me to here today. so i like to tell people who, when they ask about the xfl, what the culture of the xfl is, they're all number 54. they're all that player who said, you're good but you're not good enough. and the player's response is one of two things happens. either, okay, i'll move on. or, actually you're wrong, watch me. >> kerry: so dany, you guys were at the espys. she's made history as the first woman to own a league. not a team, a league. >> a league, yes. [ cheers and applause ] >> kerry: that's phenomenal. >> yes. so dany, i've known dany since i was 18, met at university of miami, she was an amazing athlete at miami. we have
