outside. showing you that fog out there. we do have some drizzle along the coast and it is a very july like morning. we will turn brighter as the morning goes on with temperature starting in the 50's and 60's. back into the 90's in our hottest spots this time. stuck in the 60's along the coast. a cooling sea breeze will knock temperatures down areawide. i'll talk about that coming up. jobina: is san francisco doing enough to stop the spread of monkeypox? city supervisors will consider that during a hearing today. ryan curry is live in the newsroom with more on this as they think they will make some extra changes. >> it is a frustrating topic for so many people right now.

the supervisor said the city is frustrated by what he says is a lack of response from washington but adds that some progress is being made in districting vaccines nationwide. now there will be a collective meeting to address this issue. the mayor sent a letter to the federal government requesting 35,000 doses of the monkeypox vaccine. the city has received just over 7000. the vaccine clinic ran out of shots in four hours. they stopped taking dropping patients not long after they opened. san francisco is the epicenter of the monkeypox infections in california with 141 confirmed cases. the supervisor is demanding more action. >> they have set as a goal, completely unacceptable but moving in the right direction, 3.5 million doses by the middle of next year. that is not enough.

we have a public health need now. ryan: this meeting is scheduled to be around 10:00 this morning. it is the government audit and oversight committee doing this hearing. they are also asking for more collaboration with state leaders on this issue. vaccine supply has simply not met demand. many waited in line for hours hoping to get a shot, and many got turned away. it is leaving people frustrated with the response from leaders. jobina: thank you. we have everything you need to know about monkeypox including vaccines in treatment. just head over to abc7news.com. reggie: top san francisco officials are calling for a school board member to resign after she made racially insensitive comments, in a candidate questionnaire as part of an endorsement process for the upcoming november election. tim johns has the details. tim: swift blast back.

receiving criticism after comments she made in a political group canada questionnaire form that many are calling racially insensitive. she writes in part, from my very limited exposure the past four months to the challenges of educating marginalized students, especially in the black and drunken unity, i see one of the biggest challenges as the lack of family support, unstable family environments caused by housing and food insecurity along with a lack of parental encouragement to focus on learning causes children to not be able to focus on or value learning. the president of the san francisco board of supervisors is calling on her to resign. >> i want people to understand that when you feel a certain way about certain types of communities, certain cultures, you should not be in a position to make decisions when you have

those types of biases. tim: following the outcry, she took to twitter to issue an apology. she wrote that after hearing feedback from the community, she revised her answer to reflect a deeper understanding of the challenges facing some students. she also said she was deeply sorry. but for some, her palate -- her apology is not enough. >> for her to make those statements and write those statements, it was well thought out and preplanned, something that illustrates the type of person that she is. reggie: san francisco's mayor also issued her own statement regarding her comments that reads in part, her words were wrong and hurtful. there is a difference between recognizing systemic inequality and perpetuating harmful stereotypes. it is important that she apologized and committed to working with members of the community to understand and learn. she needs to follow through on that. jobina: new developments on the peninsula were a plan to kill up to 100 canada geese is moving forward. foster city council members

approved the plan earlier this week. they say the geese population has drastically increased in the city in recent years and geese droppings have created a health risk to residents. it is so bad, a local lagoon had to be closed. humane tactics to get rid of the geese have not worked. >> they have helped clean up but they have not helped eliminate the problem. the geese just come again and leave their droppings. we have to tiptoe around them. jobina: opponents of the plan say there are other options like changing the landscaping around the city, but the city says killing the geese is the best option. the next step is to get a permanent from u.s. fish and wildlife. reggie: police are looking for the driver who led officers on a chase that stretched across both sides of the bay. this started in san mateo before 6:00 last night. it looked like it would end after the car crossed into

hayward but then the driver took off again. officers backed off of their pursuit as the car sped into oakland. the driver was never caught. authorities have not said what led to the pursuit. the bart plaza has been closed to the public in an attempt to deter illegal vendors and drug use. a san francisco supervisor posted this photo of a fence going up yesterday afternoon. she told the chronicle issues at the plaza have become a danger for the entire neighborhood. the city is working on a permitting process that should start in about a month. after that, the city will work to reopen the plaza to the public. jobina: an air quality advisory has been extended for parts of contra costa county. smoke from the marsh fire is affecting oakley and pittsburgh. the fire has been burning underground since may 28.

reggie: new developments in the weekend shooting of a mountain view police officer. the suspect has been charged with attempt at also facing weapons and hit-and-run charges. investigators say he left the scene of a crash shortly before the shooting. the officer is now recovering. jobina: there has been an arrest

in the deadly shooting at a livermore bowling alley. 27-year-old roger garcia was taken into custody yesterday. he was wanted in the shooting death of antonio vargas. two others were also shot and injured during the incident. they are expected to be ok. police think garcia was arrested at home early yesterday morning. reggie: a break in the case of an uber driver murdered in oakland. police are searching for the suspects but they say they found the car the suspects were in, in san francisco monday. surveillance video captured two men in hoodies approaching the man as he was sitting in his car. seconds later, he was shot and killed. police believe robbery was the motive. jobina: in the south bay, a grassroots effort to build a better bay area by establishing a new service center for un-housed people. a newly formed community

coalition has its eyes on a property. they are looking for your help to raise money. amanda has the details. amanda: grilling with a goal in mind, fundraising to bring to fruition the lighthouse coalition neighborhood service center. pastor ralph with lighthouse ministries says the pandemic plus inflation have pushed more san jose residents to seek help. >> we've opened our eyes to a lot more issues happening in the neighborhood. amanda: issues that he says requires more resources than their distribution center can offer. a coalition of homeless advocates, small business owners, community leaders and more, a group with a vision to bring online a first of its own comprehensive -- first of its kind comprehensive service clinic. >> last year, about 20% of the 250 people that died on the streets had diabetes listed as a

reggie: santa clara county will be discussing its response to monkeypox today. two meetings planned to address the community needs. one of those is with lgbtq committee leaders. ryan curry is in the newsroom. ryan: two meetings designed to answer questions and figure out how to respond better to the demand for the monkeypox vaccine. the first is a zoom town hall from 4:00 to 5:00 and the second is in person at the lgbtq committee center in san jose. santa clara county hosted their first monkeypox mask -- monkeypox vaccination clinic yesterday. there are specific criteria for those eligible to receive the shot, including physical contact with somebody confirmed to have monkeypox. the committee wants to know where and when they can get vaccinated. >> a friend of mine had a case

of monkeypox and he was kind enough to share about his experience on facebook and shared a link to the county vaccination arm. ryan: recently, santa clara county received over 800 doses of vaccines. the health department also says the goal tonight is not just about vaccines. they are also going over ways to raise awareness and limit spread of the virus. the first meeting on zoom starting at 4:00 and then that in person meeting starting at 6:00. reggie: we have everything you need to know about monkeypox, including vaccines and treatment. just had to our website. jobina: oaklands a api community has been hit hard by the pandemic in increasing hate crimes against asian americans. now the city police department is working to build a better relationship with the community. that is why chinatown's new captain took to the street yesterday. captain burke met with committee members to talk about the challenges they face and how to

improve the community. during their tour, they came up with ideas like holding educational seminars for business owners. business owners say efforts like in unity volunteers and surveillance cameras have been good for business. >> i want visitors to see our chinatown is safe. jobina: oakland's city council president says she is aware of concerns of over policing and mistrust of law enforcementollae approach to public safety. she says good partnerships can help keep police accountable. reggie: disturbing and dangerous. those words were used to describe flyers now posted about -- the racist derogatory flyers accuse him of crimes against children among other things. he shared pictures calling them ridiculous smears from the fringes of the right wing. he says they were posted over

prerecorded message showing a president struggling to say the election was over and to condemn rioters according to sources. >> we have just been through an intense election and emotions are high, but now tempers must be cooled and calm restored. em: the president only taped the message under immense pressure from aides advising him to do so to end any discussions about the 25th amendment, which is used to replace a president. tonight's hearing also comes as the secret service says it was only able to recover a single text exchange from january 5 and sixth app of the agency. any other messages the secret service says were deleted during a device upgrade. >> the six committee chairman sent a letter saying preserve everything. em: officials say this could be a violation of the federal records act. the committee also excited to hear from trump's former white house counsel and to call two former aides to testify.

deputy press secretary debbie matthews and dash both resigned after january 6. former president trump has called the committee investigation rigged and one-sided. the panel says it plans to have an interim report out by september. jobina: tonight's hearing is scheduled to begin at 5:00. you can watch it live here on abc 7 and wherever you stream. reggie: today the house of representatives is set to vote on a bill that would protect the use of contraceptives. house speaker nancy pelosi joined efforts -- supreme court justice clarence john -- clarence thomas indicated the court should review the right to contraception last month. the bill would establish a federal statutory right for individuals to access and use contraceptives birth control pills, iuds and emergency contraception. >> these extremists are working to take away the rights of women, to take away our right to

decide when to have children, to take away our right to control our own lives and our own bodies, and we will not let this happen. reggie: speaker pelosi says limiting access to contraceptives could have a terrible impact on families across the board. jobina: mark zuckerberg, and the outgoing coo will testify in a lawsuit claiming facebook illegally shared user data. this is part of the cambridge analytic a scandal. facebook faced a huge controversy after it was revealed that data collected by cambridge in a liquor was used to target voters with hyper specific ads before the 2016 election. users say the information was shared without their permission. facebook says it disclosed the practice in user agreements. the company could be on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars if they lose. a metta spokesperson declined to comment. reggie: two texas men were indicted yesterday in connection with the deaths of 53 migrants

found in a tractor-trailer in san antonio. officials called it the deadliest smuggling case in u.s. history. the migrants from u.s. -- from central america were found abandoned in the sweltering heat last month. the investigation uncovered related phone interactions between the suspects. the truck driver ditched them all near interstate 35 in an attempt to flee. if convicted, they could face life in prison or even the death penalty. jobina: new developments in the killing of professional cyclist mariah wilson. kayla armstrong pleaded not guilty. armstrong is accused of killing wilson after she had dinner with a man whom they both recently had a romantic relationship with . lawyers for armstrong accused austin police of mishandling the investigation. >> there is a lot more to this story. we will file motions challenging this investigation and challenging the conduct of the austin police department.
