conditions of the heat low humidity and just the amount of timber that's dead in there. you can hear the crackling from this fire the vegetation so dry in the temperature so hot that it is just fueling these flames and some of these trees have been damaged by those bark beetles those flames just crawling right up them. dry ground crews were supported by aircraft making water drops in hard to reach places governor newsom securing federal funding to keep resources moving in as crews from across the state have already started to arrive, you know, we've had plenty of fires down our way and people from all over the state and even beyond come and help us and then we go and help others when they need it. as firefighters work to hold contingency lines their warning that the threat is not over reminding anyone who lives in the area to be ready to leave at a moment's notice if you're anywhere in the fire morning

the appearance is right now, it appears that it in fact has been extinguished the marsh fire began at the end of may ignited by a fire in a homeless encampment it spread through 200 acres of marshland along the waterfront poor air quality prompted health advisories. steve hill with the contra costa county fire prevention district says 200 million gallons were dumped trying to put the out impossible to get firefighters out there because it's very dangerous conditions in the marchee area and it wasn't in an area that we could get water on. a fire boats hill says it's been a busy fire season fires have increased 20% since last year in the county. we look back two years. that number is up about 50% so the indications are not good considering that we're not yet in what's typically the peak of fire weather as wildfires. yosemite national park fire crews from the bay area have been called to assist sonoma county sent a crew from five

local fire districts. most likely they'll be sent immediately right to the line and and probably have a pretty active firefight throughout the night chad. costa is assistant fire chief for the city of petaluma. he says despite the fire's raging in mariposa county. it's been a mile july. we just haven't had a lot of red flag warnings we have it's been fairly mild weatherwise some of those previous massive. are fires burned tens of thousands of acres some so strong they even created their own weather system. costa says fire crews have more experience in cal fire has more resources. that means they can be more aggressive in getting ahead of fires. but costa ads california's fire season isn't over we have you know, august and september and october which can be really rough months for us. and so things can change quickly, but hopefully the weather keeps on our side is as much as it can in the east bay sunset hassan abc 7 news. little to answer that question

whether always being a factor when talking about those fires drew standing by and do the conditions look good for those firefighters. yeah. i mean temperature wise it's going to be warm to the east the central valley is going to be very hot in the 90s and triple digits for us. we always talk about our air quality and how these fires can impact our skies take a look at the satellite imagery over the oak fire there. you can see earlier today. it's a lot of smoke near mariposa around tioga pass as well just for proximity. you can see how far away it is from the bay area right now, but i'll throw on our winds. we had an onshore win today and that kept any smoke to the east and that's how our future weather shows us happening over the next couple of days smoke stays away from us, but near the fire moderate to unhealthy air quality at this hour for us. we have good air quality across the board tonight so we can breathe easy. it looks like the smoke forecast tomorrow as well that smoke stays to the east but likely around tahoe may have some hazy skies because of the oak fire here locally though tomorrow monday even through midweek. we are good to go when it comes to our air quality, but tomorrow a warmer finish to the weekend. dionne will show you those
