bay. we are milder with fog in the north bay and as we look outside from emeryville right now a gray start with 50's and 60's through 9:00 noon time we are in the 70's through the inland valleys. we will have some areas in the 80's near the anterior a typical temperature spread for july -- intereior but a typical temperature spread for. july jobina: we start with developing news on the oak fire earning west of yosemite national park. this photo from a traveler shows the massive plume of smoke in mariposa county. the fire has burned nearly 5000 -- 12,000 acres so far. several roads are closed. at least 10 buildings have been destroyed and dozens more remain threatened. >> california's governor

declaring a state of emergency in mariposa county as the oak fire continues to spread the fire burning outside of yosemite national park is becoming one of the states largest of the year, this time lapse showing the orange skies as the fire increases in size. trapped inside of their houses -- some people trapped inside of their houses, more than 6000 people forced. to leave hundreds of firefighters battling the blaze on the ground and from the air. >> we have a good fight on her hands. -- on our hands. >> smoke is even visible from the international space station. >> all of this done in a little less than 24 hours, thousands and thousands of acres burned. >> much of the country is

dealing with intense heat. a 22-year-old hiker died in badlands national park running out of water. the worst of the heatwave for the northeast is expected today with temperatures in some cities degrees. new york city is opening cooling centers. organizers are shortening the new york triathlon due to heat and boston is postponing its competition. jobina: another fire in yosemite national park is 79% contained this morning. the washburn fire started -- flames have threatened the parks famous sequoia trees and is burning in an area hit hard by the drought. firefighters have gained enough ground that highways were allowed to reopen.

a stubborn fire in the east bay is finally out. the marsh fire started at the end of may and fire filled -- smoke filled the air in contra costa county. >> after seven weeks of fire and the pass to seven weeks of flooding it is blue skies. >> it appears that it in fact has been extinguished. >> the marsh fire started at the end of may. it spread through 200 acres of marshland along the waterfront. poor air quality prompted health advisories. 200 million gallons were dumped trying to put the fire out. >> it is possible -- it was not in an area where

we could get water on the fire. if we look back two years that number is about up 50%. >> as wildfires burn near yosemite national park, fire crews from the bay area have been called to assist. >> most likely they will be sent right to the line and probably have a pretty active firefight throughout the night. >> he says despite the fires ranging -- raging in mariposa county, it has been a mild july. >> it has been fairly mild weather-wise. >> some previous massive fires were so strong they even created their own weather system. kostas says fire crews have more

experience and calfire has more resources. that means they can be more aggressive in getting ahead of fires. california's fire season is not over. > we have august, september and october, which can be rough months for us. things can change quickly. hopefully the weather keeps on our side as much as it can. jobina: in the east bay another search will be held today in hopes of finding more information on the disappearance of alexis game. it has been six months since her family saw her. alexis's family and several volunteers combed through the area near near rowley road. pieces of an iphone were founded during the search and will be taken for -- i police for further investigation. >> the police said apple is hard

to work with. we we need our attorney to help us with that. jobina: the gabe family is hopeful the phone is a match to alexis's iphone 11 promax. her body has never been found. in the south bay residents rallied for an airport to close immediately after a small aircraft crashed into a residential area on ocala avenue taking down power lines friday night. the airport was built nearly 100 years ago. the airport has been a good neighbor for decades, follows all regulations, including the use of unleaded gas. nearby residents say it is not enough and the airport is putting their health and safety at risk. >> my message is this airport has to close. it is a nuisance airport, it is

the cases of monkeypox in san francisco. she hopes the declaration will speed the delivery of more vaccines. >> we have had about 10,000 vaccines. we need about 70,000. we submitted a request for 35,000. >> san francisco's department of public health telling abc7news that the world health organization's recognition only reinforces the fact that the only way to address this emergency is to supply resources to cities experiencing an increase in cases. governor newsom tweeted this video, saying that california has received more vaccine from the federal government and is distributing them. monkeypox vaccine clinics have seen long lines in san francisco for some people have been turned away. it has put the city's lgbtq

indictment describes allegations that porter arrived someone -- placed bribes to get the city to approve raising rates. a group of bay area high school students who have been stranded in central europe will begin their trip home today. they have been stuck in prague since their flight home thursday was canceled by lufthansa airlines. they were supposed to fly from prague to frankfurt, germany. a charter flight will take the class from prague to germany today. caltrans broke ground on their final expansion project of highway 101. this has been going on for a long time. abc7news reporter alina holland

kimball in february. he cooks up pancake parties outside of his home in the mission district, saying it is a great way to get to know your neighbors. branson and his family are moving to the east coast, but it looks like the spirit behind the events will live on through other neighbors. >> i went to a pancake party that was two weeks thataway so they are carrying it on. there is a couple who will be here later. they have a happy hour on fridays on their front stoop. >> i like this neighborhood! branson says he is looking for a neighbor to give one of his griddles to. very nice. it is quite a turnout for an event intended to unite 2 san francisco communities. ♪ jobina: this is the second annual yun annual summer block

party. it is meant to bring together san francisco's chinese and black residents. speakers included police chief bill scott. the san francisco marathon returned today so expect several road closures throughout the city. it starts in about 10 minutes, the race at 5:30 on mission street. there are multiple categories, including a special program for those with disabilities. it is the first marathon in the state that will allow runners -- to register as non-binary. we need to know what the weather will be like for everyone out there right now. lisa: it is pretty quiet. it is cloudy. we do not have drizzle. temperatures in the low 50's. i wouldn't know. i'm not a runner.

jobina: [laughter] lisa: nice and cool for them. clouds have been with us. looking at live doppler 7, along the coast from mount tam all the way down to santa cruz and over into oakland and the east bay, just about 5 -- as we look at our smoke forecast, the impacts here throughout the day from the sierra nevada, the foothills, the mountains into lake tahoe certainly with the haze from the fire that continues to rage, and as we take this through the rest of sunday into monday, you can see we have some very that conditio' continues to push the smoke over east, allowing for good air quality in the bay area. all of the impacted areas here with the haze -- a pretty strong

onshore flow keeping it breezy through our afternoons. look at san francisco, starting out over 20 miles an hour and colors indicate that stronger flow through the delta keeping temperatures in the sacramento valley in the 90's out of the triple digits but as we get through your monday, and even stronger wind flow here. the plan will be for our inland valleys to come down a a few degrees in the days ahead. looking on the -- our forecast is looking on the quiet side. elsewhere we are in the 50's from concord to hayward, 50 in san rafael. here is our roof camera where the clouds will be with us through the morning hours. running -- morning weather in the 50's. by 10:00 a few peaks of son.

lisa: it is breezy in san francisco. some runners getting going with cloudy skies and it typical cool weather in san francisco, just in the low 50's. elsewhere in the bay we are in the mid 50's. there is some fog along the coast. with that fog 2 to 5 degrees milder. 60's and 70's, 11:00, sunny skies. by 4:00, a few degrees warmer, perhaps 90 by the delta, low to mid 70's along the shore. san francisco in the 60's with cloudy skies. we will talk about a gradual cooling trend in the next few minutes. jobina: new developments -- we are learning more about the police chief of richmond who has been on leave since last october. according to the bay area news group, lisa french committed

two climate activists in italy elude themselves to botticelli's primavera painting. kneeling in front of the painting, they each had one hand glued to the protective glass. a man is seen ripping their hands off it, dragging them away from the painting. this is just the latest incident of activists taking action against climate change. earlier this month protesters also glued their hands to a painting in london. as part of a class-action lawsuit, t-mobile has agreed to pay millions of customers after a cyberattack in 2021. t-mobile is expected to pay $350 million and another $150 million to secure its data systems. as part of the settlement, the company does not claim any responsibility for wrongdoing.

now getting a check on our bay area forecast with lisa. lisa: we are starting out with typical low clouds and fog. we are looking at some gray skies. if you are coming into san francisco, cheering someone on for the marathon, or just with us through the morning hours clouds over to the east bay. i went to show you the impacts on the sierra nevada. this is 7:00 this morning. westward towards mariposa and up through sonora, conditions are deteriorating. the smoke is moving through the afternoon. as it heads north over into reno, system offshore will continue to push the smoke away from senate -- from sacramento and into the mountains, impacting the foothills. no containment yet. we are watching that while our

winds continue to bring good air quality. as you look at the yellow, the orange, definitely some bad air quality throughout the day today. this wind flow pattern continues to strengthen and stay pretty much the same old same old with strong winds right through the delta. sacramento is benefiting from some slightly cooler weather. oakland is -- it is 59 in palo alto. sun is up at 6:06. here is a look at that wind that will keep our air quality good. a little breezy and below average in san francisco as the wind is up to 20 miles per hour. continuing to bring temperatures in that comfort zone, 80's to maybe 90, but that trend will be
