fight. thank you for joining us. to developing news on the wildfire, it is one of two burning right now in the yosemite area. the oak fire resulted in another round of evacuations today. cal fire says it is the biggest fire of the year and there is no containment. cornell barnard joins us now with a look at the strategy to fight the flames and the local fire crew involved. reporter: no time to lose. a strike team from the bay area is included in those fighting the fire. the fast-moving fire is forcing thousands from their homes. the oak fire is raging. this time lapse video showing smoke and flames high above the ridge in mariposa county. crews working around the clock on the ground and in the air. the wildfire growing so big it could be seen from the international space station. >> further down the road, it

really starts to intensify. these trees will be coming down. what we see over here is the result of all of that available fuel-burning with high intensity. >> they arrived around daybreak after traveling all night. reporter: a strike team from the bay area now assisting on the fire learns -- fire lines, including alameda county. they were able to save part of this burning home saturday afternoon. >> they happened to be on this country road and found the home engulfed in flames and went into action to save the garage and in law unit being exposed. reporter: the fire burning outside yosemite one of the largest of the year. homes and cars engulfed. some people trapped inside their houses. >> seven people in a residence unable to get out. reporter: more than 6000 people have been forced to evacuate. >> it is pretty difficult and only appears to be getting worse. it will get drier and hotter. reporter: evacuees hoping they

can return home soon. >> it is heartbreaking because it has been year after year. reporter: governor newsom has declared a state of emergency in mariposa county. smoke from the fire was already impacting air quality in lake tahoe, especially on the south shore. cornell barnard, abc7news. dion: speaking of air quality, taking a live look outside, you can see we are pretty clear in san francisco but we could see smoky conditions from the fire. spencer christian is joining us with the air quality advisory. spencer: it's likely we will see some haze, it may be light, in the bay area next couple of days. it is quite good right now in the agent, but unhealthy air quality more common in the sierra and in the foothills, even parts of the central valley. here is our near surface smoke animation showing what we expect to happen the next day and a

half or so. notice the dark colors indicating hazardous smoke and pollutants in the air building up and expanding over the sierra and moving into parts of the central valley. some of the letter smoke at the surface will work its way into the north bay and east bay the next couple of days. we are not likely to see any buildup here, certainly not at the surface of the more hazardous smoke, but there could be some of the upper atmosphere that skies become hazy the next couple of days. dion: a second wildfire burning in yosemite national park remains 79% contained. containment and the spread of the fire are holding steady since yesterday, with flames burning more than seven square miles. the washburn fire is about 12 miles east of the oak fire. firefighters have gained enough ground that highway 41 reopened yesterday so visitors could get in through the park's south entrance. fire crews in the south bay made fast work of a brush fire in morgan hill. it threatened structures this

marin city. officers responded and found a car with bullet holes in the window of the passenger side door. a neighbor said she has had enough of the violence. >> i heard automatic, just another tragedy for our city. that's why have got to get out of here. dion: so far, no word of arrests or motive for the shooting. the sheriff's department says the other victims are expected to survive. family and friends of the men killed at a livermore bowling alley held a fundraiser today. they gathered to remember the support. he was shot last weekend during an argument. vargas was a daca recipient who owned a carpet cleaning business and his family is devastated by his death. >> we are all here trying to help out the family. trying to give him the best service he deserves. dion: livermore police arrested

dion: activists converged on the golden gate bridge today to demand reproductive justice for all. speakers called for roe v. wade to be reinstated immediately following the supreme court ruling striking down legalized abortion. they praised the 17 members of congress who were arrested at an abortion rights protest outside the court on tuesday. today's protest was deeply personal for one woman, who had an abortion in michigan in 1971. >> it was traumatic, i was 21 and it was frightening. nobody should have to go through that.

dion: many of the protesters wore green as an international sign of abortion rights, taking inspiration from the women of latin america, who have battled the catholic church for the recognition of abortion rights. you develop is in the san francisco city hall corruption scandal. john porter has been indicted on bribery charges. the indictment details allegations that porter bribed the former public works director with more than $1 million in its and donations. the intent was to entice him to get the city to approve a rate increase and more fees. earlier this year, he pleaded guilty in connection with the scandal. just ahead, after virtual and scaled-back events, comic-con is back. we will look at this year's celebration of all things pop culture and what attendees thought about the return. and as we had to break, a live look outside. the fog starting to roll in.

convention center. take a look, this plant causing a big stink in the south bay. almost. commonly referred to as a corpse flower, it is set to bloom any moment. how riveting is this video? so much action. i am just glued. this one at san jose state university is expected to open by tuesday and will only stay open for up to 36 hours. the nine foot tall plant is named terry. we have a live look, the plant gets its nickname because it smells like rotting flesh when it blooms. the public not allowed to see it in person, so the school has set up livestream on youtube. i can attest it does smell like rotten meat, maybe like gym socks stuffed with rotten meat. the san francisco marathon today. our roof cam captured the first runners going past our building shortly after 5:30. it started on the embarcadero on mission and did back at the embarcadero at folsom. the men's winner was one point a mile ahead. for the first time, runners could register as non-binary. spencer, i know you are a runner, are you a marathon standard? spencer: not marathons. i have run a half marathon years ago. these days, i still run a bit and only a half, two miles. dion: still impressive, considering. spencer: i just turned 75 yesterday. i hit the treadmill yesterday and today. dion: did you post a photo of you working out on your birthday? spencer: on my personal facebook page, you can find a video my wife shot yesterday following me into the gym.

to expand overnight with the drizzle near the coast. mainly sunny and mild afternoons the next couple of days and we can expect slightly warmer weather developing by the end of the week. tonight, look for surging low clouds and fog for the coast and across the bay, even well inland. there will be a lot of patches of drizzle near the coast and bay overnight and early morning. morning commuters may encounter some slippery wet spots on the roadways. the fog will burn back to the coastline by midmorning, giving us mainly sunny midday and afternoon. the fog will surge back again early evening tomorrow. overnight lows tonight, mainly mid 50's. further inland you go, the milder it will be viewed overnight lows -- will be. overnight lows in the 50's and 60's. inland areas generally in the upper 80's but we will probably see some locations hitting 90 degrees tomorrow. next seven days, don't expect
