the oak fire burning near yosemite. thousands of people forced to leave their homes. kumasi: and firefighters leaving the bay area in mariposa county to battle the flames showing no signs of slowing down. reggie: and we are taking a live look outside. it looks good but all of the smoke could be drifting into the bay area. drew is tracking what you need to know. kumasi: good morning. reggie: happy to be with you. drew: we find some smoke in our sky. we notice it in the north and the spate. easy conditions as the smoke from the oak fire begins to move into our sky. fog along the coast. we are doing ok elsewhere. temperatures are in the 50's.

54 in san francisco, 57 in oakland, 54 the current temperature in fairfield. here's a live look at the exploratory camera. starting out with the fog. throughout the day you will notice hazy sunshine. the smoke will be most noticeable in the skies of the north bay where the inland east bay. thankfully that smoke will stay elevated. fresh air, good air quality. it is hazy sunshine and temperatures in the 70's and 80's. we take a closer look at the smoke forecast in about eight minutes. julian: now to developing news this morning on the oak fire burning out of control outside of yosemite national park. the fire has burned m acres so . this making it the largest fire in the state so far. cal fire says at least 10

billions have been destroyed, including some homes. thousands of structures remain threatened and more than 6000 people have been told to evacuate. jobina is tracking the latest developments. jobina: try summer heat and drought conditions have made for a dangerous combination. fire activity was not as extreme yesterday. crews were able to make progress . there is a lot of dry fuel and difficult terrain making this harder. >> further down the road the fire starts to intensify. those trees will be coming down. all of the fuel is burning with high intensity. jobina: damage inspection teams were able to get into some of the burned areas yesterday to begin their assessment and governor newsom declared a state of emergency over the weekend that allows additional resources and aid to respond to the fire. kumasi: there is more help from

the bay area to the oak fire. this morning a strike team where ryan curry is right now. what do you know? ryan: that team left just under an hour ago, about five trucks gathered at the home depot in pleasanton from alameda county now making their way towards the oak fire. their hope is to get a handle on the fire that spread so rapidly over the weekend and they are there to help the crews fight and hopefully get a good control on what is burning so rapidly. this strike team already up over the weekend. they help to save a burning home saturday afternoon. now more than 6000 people have been forced to evacuate as a result of this fire will stop crews are working around-the-clock both on the ground and in the air. the fire burning so bright, some shots showing it burning extraordinarily bright.

both calfire and alameda county says the fuel is causing it to spread so fast. >> they arrived right around daybreak -- ryan: alameda county fire told us the other team arrived late at that morning to help begin assisting the crews that were currently on scene. they are going to offer as much help as they can come including the team that left here this morning. we know how fast it has already spread at the dangers wildfires risk when it is so dry. therefore any help they can offer will be much needed. live in pleasanton, ryan curry, abc 7 news. kumasi: the washburn fire is burning inside yosemite national park. this morning it is 87% contained and is born -- and has burned more than 4900 acres. firefighters report the smoke from the open fire is drifting

farther east it is impacting the fire but in a good way. it has helped keep temperatures down and gain control of the flames. julian: the smoke from the oak fire is expected to blow into the bay area today. abc 7 reporter j.r. stone spoke with experts. j.r.: plumes like this have been billowing into the air ever since the oak fire started. now forecast shows this smoke above the san francisco bay area in the next 24 to 48 hours. >> we expect smoke to drift into the bay area. higher elevations may have smoke impact. j.r.: while skies were clear over san francisco in the east bay on sunday, there is an air quality advisory in place. the national weather service released this time-lapse smoke forecast map that shows smoke at high elevations of the entire bay area by tuesday.

that smoke is already impacted multiple counties. >> it looks like the apocalypse. in the early morning to mid afternoon the sun is right in the direction of the smoke and it is just a red ball glowing in the sky and everything has an orange hue. it is ominous. j.r.: scott patrick saw this and evacuated his mariposa county home saturday. the home is still standing but his description of this guy is reminiscent of what the bay area has seen several times, including the orange skies from 2020, something we asked about sunday. >> air quality is good to moderate and we expect that for the rest of the week. when wildfires are active conditions can change very quickly. we will be closely monitoring the air quality. j.r.: if you smell smoke, go inside, close the doors come and

close the windows. j.r. stone, abc 7 news. julian: you can track all of the wildfires burning right now by using our online interactive wildfire tracker. kumasi: you details about the bay high school students stranded in central europe. the remaining students are now on their way home. the saratoga high school orchestra had been on tour. students got stuck in prague when their flight home was canceled by love thanh said airlines -- by lufthansa airlines. julian: in the north bay one person is dead and does brothers are hurt after shooting in marin city. several officers responded and found a car with several bullet holes in the passenger side window. a neighbor said she has had enough of violence. >> i heard automatic. it is another tragedy for our

city. that is why i have to move. julian: there is no word of any arrest or a motive for the shooting. the sheriff's department says the does to other victims are expected to survive. kumasi: family and friends of the men killed at a bowling alley held a fundraiser in his honor. they gathered to remember 20-year-old antonio vargas shot and killed july 16 during an argument. he was a daca recipient who owned a carpet cleaning business. his family is devastated. >> we are here trying to help out the family, trying to give him the best service. kumasi: livermore police arrested a 27-year-old as wednesday. he is facing a number of charges, including murder. where than $30,000 has also been raised for his family. julian: we will look at the

smoke forecast of this morning. what we will find as the sun gets up over the next hour we will begin to see smoke in our atmosphere. that is the orange contour you see on your screen. we will find the easiest conditions in parts of the north bay and inland. our onshore flow is strong with us. the marine layer is hanging tight. the peninsular and parts of the south bay finding good air quality as the day goes on. throughout the afternoon we will find hazy conditions in parts of the north bay in the inland east bay. the stronger onshore flow will push a lot of the -- tomorrow we will likely see hazy sunshine. the air quality near the surface for a lot of us remains good. you will notice you can breathe easy a lot of spots but will notice the smoke. as we go hour-by-hour, future weather showing the fog will go back to the coast.

kumasi: this morning pope francis is in canada apologizing to indigenous people for abuses by catholic missionaries. the pope was granted by careless prime minister when he arrived yesterday. the trip was to weed knowdg schs in the 19th and 20 centuries. children were taken from families to attend religious schools and many suffered abuse. >> a survivor said the only

. we are talking about hazy sunshine. you see that in the north bay and the inland east bay. that is pumping out a lot of smoke into our atmosphere. some of that smoke is now moving into our sky. temperatures for the weekend pretty steady. it is still pretty foggy across the city. elsewhere we are seeing the sunshine because of that smoke and that fog will stay along the coastline for the day ahead. highs in the south bay, sunshine at 80 in santa clara, 83 for gilroy. sunny for menlo park. partly sunny and cooler, low 60's for half moon bay. 59 for the sunset in richmond with the fog overhead. 60's along the coast, 80's in san rafael. 83 in calistoga, 82 in vallejo.

we expect hazy conditions across the north bay. moving into the inland east bay as well. the onshore flow strong. clear skies close to the coast. throughout the day we expect hazy sunshine. this event does stay elevated. air quality remains good close to the surface. we take a closer look at the air quality in about eight minutes. kumasi: we start this half-hour with a massive firefighter to stave communities and mariposa counties. the oh fire has doubt burned more than 15,000 acres. this video shows some of the damage. thousands of structures are still threatened. evacuations for several communities in the path of these flames, but fire officials say fire activity was less erratic yesterday and that allowed some crews to gain ground on the fire. it is burning extremely dry conditions and a steep terrain

is making fighting the fire very difficult. right now it is 0% contained but we will see if that increases. julian: firefighters from the bay area are on the fire zone. they gather in the east overnight. we saw at least five trucks leaving. that is where we five abc reporter ryan curry. ryan: those crews are now on the road as we speak heading towards the oak fire, trying to give additional aid to the many crews already there battling a blaze that spread rapidly over the weekend. no containment so far. any home is going to be needed to get this under wraps. this will not be the first strike team we have seen from alameda county heading towards this fire. one of them went over the weekend on saturday. they stopped the home from burning completely. they were there to help as needed.

this fire over 15,000 acres in just one weekend. as you mentioned, the fuel is the biggest thing right now and that is part of the reason the crews are heading up there. it is causing the fire to spread. the residents are feeling the impact. >> they happened to be on this country road and found the home engulfed in flames and went into action to try to save the garage and in law unit. >> it only appears it will get trier and hotter. ryan: very difficult for those residents. around 6000 being evacuated so far. we are in the middle of summer. we talk about the dry conditions. here we are talking about a fire that did burn very rapidly. this help from the bay area already made an impact over the weekend.
