...free your gut. and your mood will follow. >> now from abc7, live breaking news. >> and that breaking news is in alameda where fire crews appear to be getting a handle on a warehouse fire. sky 7 is live above the scene right now as you are seeing, this is locate on west ranger avenue. this is near saratoga street on the old naval base. less than an hour ago, firefighters requested help from oakland's fire department. the alameda fire department says there are nonjurieso ramaged. there are early reports that the building's roof partially collapsed and that the building is vacant. we will continue to follow this and bring you new developments as they happen. >> the other top story tonight is the use of security cameras in san francisco. san francisco supervisors are

weighing in on a controversial plan to allow police to have realtime access to non-city-owned cameras in an effort, of course, to cut down on crime and increase public safety. abc7 news reporter is live explain why some allow san francisco police to temporarily access realtime feeds from cameras on homes and businesses to help them during significant events. while some told me this is putting privacy and civil liberties at risk, others said this is what small businesses need for further protection. reporter: san francisco lawmakers once again weighing the use of non-city-owned security cameras in realtime by police. >> with law enforcement's ability to have tools that it needs to make san francisco safe. reporter: supporters of this plan, including the san francisco police department, say it would give police a tool they

don't already have, to help respond to and solve crimes faster. san francisco chamber of commerce president and ceo rodney fong believes this could be a good thing for tourism. >> for all of the businesses and residents of san francisco, safety has been our number one concern here in san francisco and from a small business perspective, that safety for our employees and customers is really paramount. we need to make sure that san francisco streets are top notch, safe, clean, if we want to welcome back visitors to san francisco. reporter: but opponents worry the plan gives police too much access. >> we think there's still far more to do, though, to make sure that if any policy does pass, that it respects our privacy and respects our civil liberties. reporter: an attorney for the electronic frontier foundation was one of more than 50 people that gave public comment on this. he says the last time police used cameras like these was in d protest, something the aclu is

still in the process of suing over invasion of privacy. >> that is exactly the kind of thing that we want to prevent from happening in the future, and as written, we believe the policy right now would authorize sfpd to continue doing those kinds of things and we think that's totally counter to what most people in the city want in terms of safety and privacy. reporter: but many supporters of the plan want police to have full access to all the tools they need. >> we live in a world-class city and with that comes threats as well and i think we want to make sure that we are the most prepared to thwart anything that can happen, in the middle of happening, and public safety i think is just paramount. >> and lawmakers did make two th policy. this proposed pt beif the second is a more robust reporting policy. lawmakers will vote on the

policy in september. abc7 news. >> thank you. new developments in oakland where the city has agreed to pay former police chief anne kirkpatrick $1.5 million. this comes after a federal jury found the former chief was wrongfully terminated after speaking out against the civilian-run police commission. kirkpatrick was fired back in 2020 after three years on the job. she released a statement saying, quote, i feel vindicated by the jury's conclusion that i was fired in retaliation for blowing the whistle on wrongdoing at the oakland police commission. i hope that the agreement in my favor is a signal to all who are witnesses to misconduct, especially those in law enforcement, to not stay silent. >> in the south bay, one school district says it's at risk of losing nearly 20 staff members if millions of dollars in funding isn't renewed. district officials say the impact to students could be devastating. abc7 news reporter zach fuentes has the details. reporter: teacher retention and

recruitment have been major challenges for school districts throughout the bay area. >> and with the increase to the cost of living, it has been more difficult than other times to bring other people into the area. and we see this across the state. reporter: the campbell union high school district serves more than 8,000 students throughout the south bay and like many school districts in santa clara county, it's community funded, meaning it doesn't receive a lot of money from the state. the district says much of the funding comes from the community. voters approved a parcel tax. they pay $85 per year per parcel, giving the district $5 million, money it says has given students key support. >> 16 different teachers, five college and career specialists, three computer technicians. reporter: next year, that money runs out. >> that's going to mean an increase in class sizes, that's going to mean that students don't get support from their college and career specialists. >> the district says it's worked to find new ways to create revenue, including leasing out some of their buildings and renting out some other

properties but the potential shortfall of $5 million that could come if that parcel tax isn't renewed will be devasdevastating so now they're looking to the community to get support to hopefully get that parcel tax on the ballot again in november. >> the superintendent right now is having a survey for our community to see where they're at, what they think about continuing this moving forward. >> that survey is currently on the district website. they say the information they get will be used in their work to get the parcel tax renewed. >> we really want to have people supported and continue to support great education in campbell, great education in the south bay. >> zach fuentes, abc7 news. >> happening now, fire crews are making progress against the oak fire burning so ferociously in mariposa county. today, some evacuation orders were reduced to five advisements. so far, 16,791 acres have burned since the fire started friday afternoon. at least seven structures have been destroyed and the fire is 10% contained. firefighters from across the state are helping to battle the

oak fire, including one bay area strike team from sonoma county. they're resting today after spending more than 30 hours on the front lines. but as abc7 news explains, for this crew, this fight is personal. >> the weather conditions, hot and dry. the ground ablaze. that's the view of the oak fire for captain fike and his strike team. >> and any time that you see a call that is -- that has an ice cap formed on top of the the smoke column means that we have significant fire. reporter: he is the strike team leader of the 21 men and five engines from sonoma county sent to the oak fire. they arrived saturday night and went right to work. monday is their first chance at rest after spending more than 30 hours on the front line trying to save homes. >> when we're on the front lines and we are in structure protection mode, i think that it takes on a whole nother meaning for us. it's a lot more personal at that point.

reporter: governor newsom has declared a state of emergency. 2,000 firefighters on the front line in an area of low humidity and dense fuels. >> the fuel moisture that's happening right now, we're at 6% and we actually consider these fuels to be dead at 9% so as you can imagine our fuels are critically dry conditions right now. reporter: the crew from sonoma county know what they're up against. veterans of recent wildfires that ravaged sonoma county and other parts of the bay area, such as the tubbs fire in 2017, and the blast fire in 2020. he says when sonoma county burned, crews from across the state came to their aid. he said it's important to be part of this fight, as well. >> our firefighters are getting beat up pretty bad. however, i think that they see the significance of mutual aid because we've had so many agencies come to our county, and so our firefighters see that as inspiration and they want to come and they want to help.

reporter: crew members don't know when they can come home. it all depends on how long the oak fire burns. abc7 news. >> and that smoke from the oak fire is drifting here to the bay area, and now, an air quality advisor has been extended through wednesday. >> for the latest on the conditions out there, let's go to abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel. >> as you take a look at the a live picture from our east bay hills camera you may notice a little bit of haze in the atmosphere. obviously, we are seeing some smoke impacts from the oak fire in the upper parts of the atmosphere. it's not down near the surface, but if you live at the higher elevations, you may be dealing with this so the air quality advadvisory is through wednesda. good to moderate air quality is expected, but at the higher elevations is what we're concerned about. right now, it is good as you will notice locally. not so good. yosemite looking at very unhealthy air, even parts of the sierra nevada moderate air quality. the smoke forecast near the surface showing the worst of the

air quality right over the sierra nevada and close to the yosemite fire, not here in the bay area, but once again in the upper parts of the atmosphere, do expect smoke impacts right on through the middle of the week. i'll be back with a full look at the forecast, coming up. >> thank you, and we have tools so you can keep tabs on the air quality where you live 24/7. just check out our online interactive air quality tracker. you'll find it at www.abc7news.com. >> tonight, new details about a deadly shooting in marin city. the victim is a man from oakland and police say they have a person of interest in the case. investigators say 42-year-old michael rogers ii died in this shooting. two other people were wounded. they are expected to be okay. several officers cannot to the scene yesterday morning and found a car with bullet holes, several of them in the passenger side window. police say they found a gun at the scene, as well. >> police in oakland are investigating a burglary that happened at a popular sweet spot. the owners of flavor brigade which sells italian ice and

but. -- his past jokes about the transgender community have local activists demanding that the shows be canceled. we have the story. reporter: popular and controversial comedian dave chappelle is coming to santa rosa. his four shows this week sold out within hours. >> i would say that my organization, we're very upset. we're actually appalled by it. reporter: jennifer from trans life sonoma county is demanding that the shows be canceled got the comedian's past jokes about the transgender community. >> espousing the transphobia that he does normalizeatize. >> i'm not saying that to say that trans women aren't women. i am just saying that those (bleep). >> the issue was present for lgbtq advocates because of the potential of -- an online

possession to keep chappelle from performing here is growing in numbers. >> we want the lbc or the performing arts center to support their local community. by booking him, it's a slap in the face to our community. >> i think the really important thing to remember is that free speech does not mean freedom from consequences. reporter: the center says live nation has rented its theater for chappelle's shows. in a statement the center says the lbc has been a gathering place for over 40 years working with the community and a number of presenters to provide a place for diverse voices to be heard. we always appreciate feedback from our community and we have shared the collective concerns we've received with live nation. in addition, we have been inviting those who have expressed their thoughts to meet and keep the conversation going so we are able to find ways to better support and elevate the voices of our entire community. chappelle's show in minneapolis was canceled and relocated to another venue last week in response to protests. local comedian juan carlos arena

united states. abc news has more. reporter: the biden administration now considering whether to follow the world health organization's lead and declare monkey pox a public health emergency. worldwide, the number of cases jumped from 3,000 to more than 16,000 in a matter of weeks. >> we are seeing monkeypox in lots of countries around the world. reporter: in the u.s., nearly 3,000 reported cases, about a third of them in the state of new york. the white house covid-19 coordinator says the administration is tackling the outbreak with more testing and vaccinations. >> we've got to keep doing more, by the way. we're not done on that effort. reporter: symptoms include fevers, headaches and rashes, blisters can also appear on the face, inside the mouth and on other parts of the body. the risk of monkeypox is moderate, except in european regions where it's assessed as high. in london, the fever from

weather. >> let's take a look at live doppler 7 because it's an active picture to our south. monsoon moisture getting fund into southern california. we are seeing some thunderstorms over the central sceera as you will notice heading into nevada. it's an area of low pressure that is pulling up some of this moisture, and then we have this area of high pressure that's also drying it why i bring this all up to you is there's a slight possibility we could see a thunderstorm or two early tomorrow morning. taking a look at live doppler 7, we certainly have a healthy and deep marine layer along the coastline. it's been socked in, 50's, 60's on the coast. inland areas into the 80's and a few 90's well inland. winds right now, 36 miles per hour, onshore, 33 i should say. san francisco 20 at sfo and 24 out towards the delta. we're getting a nice sea breeze and here's a look at the marine layer from our emeryville camera as we look towards the goldenigate bridge. 67 in oakland. it's in the low to mid-70s to

santa clara and san jose. here's a live look from our golden gate bridge camera, and it's socked in as you will notice, 70 degrees in -- low 80's concord, livermore. nice view of that fog from up above, cloudy with patchy drizzle overnight tonight. slight chance of thunder in the morning and hazy sunshine expected through midweek because of the smoke from the oak fire. so we're going to take a look at the surface here. smoke is expected to remain primarily over the sierra nevada at the lower parts of the atmosphere, but it's the upper parts that we're watching, as well, and that's why the air quality advisory is up through wednesday. some of that smoke will get transported into the northern and eastern end of our viewing area right on through tomorrow night, even into wednesday, which is why that advisory is up. thunderstorms in southern california, heading towards the sierra tomorrow. here in the bay area we start out with the fog, the drizzle, but there's a small chance that we could see a little bit of
