to july 26. drew: we are tracking a line of showers that has been working through eastern contra costa county. also have rain as far as walnut creek. couple of lightning strikes before 4:00 a.m. as it enters the north bay at work tries to enter solano county, it is struggling as it enters the cooler air. it is an 60's at the. partly cloudy skies, hazy sunshine again today. today is the coolest day we have this week. we will take another look at doppler and temperatures in a few minutes. reggie: developing news on the oak fire, firefighters are hoping to make more progress after slowing the fire's expansion yesterday. the fire is now 16% contained. this is the largest wildfire this year in california. more than 17,000 acres have burned west of yosemite national park while 55 structures have

been confirmed destroyed, including several homes. we learned from calfire no one has been injured. thousands of homes are threatened and evacuation orders are in effect. calfire says the drought is one of the reasons the oak fire took also quickly. the conditions are far -- are challenging for firefighters. it is rugged terrain and the hills are steep. reporter: the oak fire has disgorged thousands of acres while firefighters are making progress, some people are getting official word their home was lost. >> the fire department called me to verify my house had been burned down. reporter: chris, who grew up in marin county, was out biking with friends friday, looked back and saw this. >> there was a fire in the vicinity of where we were and it was building up weekly.

a pillow of black -- a pillar of black smoke rose into the sky. reporter: an outdoorsman and journalist was able to get his dog and some items from his home with the thought that he would come back for more. that never happened. authorities evacuated the neighborhood and he received troubling news for the second time in a week. >> this was not the saddest news i got this week. i came down with an autoimmune disorder this week. i was crying a lot about that and then my house burned. it was more than i could take. reporter: chris's home and his landlord's home are two of 55 structures that have been destroyed. cara took these pictures on the way to her father-in-law's home. she says smoke -- have been a major issue. >> we would go out to our car and there is search everywhere. just raining down.

reporter: as bad as everything looks, those we spoke with our hopeful. >> i am sad but i have my dog next to me. reporter: chris is suffering from alopecia, the same thing jada pinkett smith has. he is in marin county plans to make his way to fresno and hopefully will get back to mariposa. reggie: drifting smoke from the oak fire has prompted officials to extend an air quality advisory through tomorrow. we have an interactive tracker so you can keep tabs where you live. you will find it at abc7news.com . kumasi: investigators are looking for the cause of this two alarm fire in alameda. alameda fire crews called the oakland fire apartment. part of the warehouse's roof collapsed. are no reports of injuries.

there an instigation into a fire and antioch around 8:00 was night on serpentine drive. neighbor said he saw this fire burning the cause is not officially known. the person who died has not been identified. kumasi: -- reggie: the federal government has put a decision about second covid-19 booster shots for people under 50 on hold. according to a senior official, the government is focused on getting a vaccine that is more effective against omicron. then they would roll out more boosters. doctors say this is a timing game. >> it is dependent on when the next vaccine is ready. if it will not be ready until october, you should push the second vaccine now. if it will be ready by mid september, that is only six weeks from now. reggie: officials hope to have the omicron targeted vaccine ready by mid september.

second boosters are only available if you are over 50 or a younger person at high risk. there is new help for some children who lost parents to covid. the state will spend $100 million to buy interest-bearing savings bonds. low income children who lost parents to covid and others would qualify. it could vary between $4000 and $8,000. that will be enough for about 16,000 children. the money for this is coming from the record rating budget surplus. starting today, the monkeypox vaccine clinic at zuckerberg hospital will be closed. they don't have enough vaccine. they have not been told when they will get more vaccine. the agency has requested 35,000 doses. it has only received 7800. there is only one lab that makes this vaccine.

reggie: a group of students is back after being stranded in europe. these are toga school orchestra got stuck in prague for four days in their flight home was canceled. at one point, we were told the airline might not get them back before september. >> we had no idea when we were leaving. we had no idea if it would be one day or 10 days or 100 days. we had no idea. reggie: the students were relieved to be back home and say they have no hard feelings. >> i don't think i can allow this event to take away from the overall experience because it was amazing.

reggie: the students took a seven hour bus ride to frankfurt and got a charter frack to san francisco. a second group returned to saturday night. kumasi: a woman by a monk seal mother in hawaii and not be facing any fines after this encounter. >> get out. get out. kumasi: is 60-year-old teacher was swimming when the seal bit her. the woman had injuries to her face, arm, back. state officials said they would not recommend charges for the woman who has requested to remain anonymous. they say she was previous they warned about being in that area but an investigation found she did not provoke the seal. officials say more should be done to educate tourists about wildlife rules. >> hawaii airlines is doing a good job on that. it is up to other airlines to step up and help educate

are hoping to build on this throughout the day and a massive response out here in mariposa county. more than 2000 fire personnel from across the state are fighting these flames from the ground as well as the air. 55 structures have been destroyed. at least 21 of those our homes. crews remain optimistic. fire crews today are going to focus on continuing to construct thos extinguish hotspots. they will be heading out to nearby communities untouched from the fire, prepping those structures in case the fire impacts that area. slightly cooler temperatures today could help crews in this firefight. calfire has reduced evacuation orders to fire advisement. people here at the evacuation center can go home. as for other areas under evacuation orders, they want to make sure there are no fallen

trees and hotspots are out before they allow residents back in. amanda aguilar, abc7news. kumasi: human remains were found at swim beach in lake mead national recreation area. rangers is bonded to the witness of remains. they have set a perimeter to recover the instruments. officials reached out to the medical examiner to determine the cause of death. that investigation continues. truckers have ended their protest outside the port of oakland. they had been protesting and new labor law that reclassified as employees. the trucker said the law would end up costing them money. they successfully blocked cargo flow at the port for days as they picketed. major unions back ab5 saying companies use the system to deny vacation time, health care, and wages -- appropriate wages.
