this morning, slightly cooler compared to this time yesterday, a lot of us sitting in the 50's, a couple of low 60's. 61, san mateo. 62, san jose. a live look outside showing the low cloud cover, and again there is a lot of drizzle close to the coast. likely if you are traveling, even windshield wipers for a second or two. fog for much of the morning slowly thinning so the marine layer is slow to pull back. 60's and 70's on lunchtime and then hazy sunshine. the fog hangs close to the coast, so it is pretty thick. 60's for the coast and 70's around the shoreline. we are tracking warmer weather in the days ahead. kumasi: this morning there are new developments in the investigation into the january 6 insurrection. "the washington post" is reporting that the justice

department is investigating former president donald trump's actions. this is totally separate from the investigation by the house select committee. jobina: this investigation into his role as part of a criminal probe to figure out what role he played and others as well in the insurrection, and if they should face charges. sources confirm that prosecutors have asked witnesses about trump and other former officials before a federal grand jury. however there is no indication that trump is the target of the doj's investigation as a former president return to washington, d.c. for the first time since leaving office. during a speech yesterday he outlined a hard-line criminal justice agenda, pushing the death penalty for drug dealers and arguing that the federal government should go around governors and use the national guard to fight crime. >> civil liberties of people, the safety of law-abiding americans cannot be violated by weak mayors and cowardly

governors. jobina: meanwhile the house select committee investigation is not slowing down with more public hearings planned for september and abc news learned the committee is in discussions with mike pompeo to testify as well. reggie: thank you. in the north bay despite controversy hundreds of people showed up in santa rosa to watch dave chapelle perform. it comes after members of the lgbtq+ community called for the performance to be canceled. here is j.r. stone. j.r.: hundred lined up to see dave chapelle perform in santa rosa tuesday night admist a call from some advocates for the show to be canceled. >> they cancel culture is out of control. j.r.: that opinion was echoed by those we spoke with you showed up to see him perform. >> it is political correctly -- correctness gone too far, that is what it is. you kill committee its and that

little saigon neighborhood two weeks ago when he was getting ready to go to work. community members are calling for justice and change, they want more police controls and more effective investigations. >> we are hoping to find ways so they are more resources to prevent crimes from happening. >> until someone is caught, this will continue, you will see more press conferences and more victims. more armed robberies. reggie: oakland police say a new liaison officer has been assigned to patrol the area and officers are talking with a business to provide a police substation. kumasi: monkeypox cases in the u.s. have gone up by 33% in the past four days. there are more than 3500 confirmed cases, most in any country in the world. the vaccine clinic at zuckerberg clinic is going to be closed today because of a shortage of the vaccine.

the health department says it has asked the federal government for 35,000 doses and has only gotten 7800. the head of new york city's health department wants the world health organization to rename the virus. he said this would avoid " stigmatizing patients who may have elected to seek care." the covid surge may have peaked in the erica. -- in the area. the average of 43 daily cases per 100,000 residents yesterday down from 40 92 weeks ago. let bay is seeing less cases with 38 cases. the positivity rate is at 15% and it peaked at 16.3%. reggie: now to the top story you are clicking on, the gigantic mega millions jackpot now at just over $1 billion. no one matched all six numbers in the drawing, and here are the numbers from the $830 million drawing.

reggie: twitter is moving forward with plans to sell to elon musk. they are asking shareholders to vote on the 44 billion dollar offer september 13. the vote is happening is twitter prepared to go to battle with moscow in october. twitter will ask a job -- a judge to force musk to complete the deal. earlier this month he announced he is trying to back out alleging that twitter failed to give him enough data about spam accounts. kumasi: disappointing news for kite flyers. berkeley's kite festival has been called off. it was canceled in 2020 and 2020 one because of the pandemic and this year the issue is funding. instead of the usable 1000 permit fee to the city organizers say the prize went sky high. >> we would always pay permit free -- permit fees and food vendor fees and in addition to those we were asked to pay

the house oversight is looking into the responsibility that the gun manufacturers have into gun violence. they hosted a hearing last month with testimony from survivors of mass shootings caused by assault rifles. the hearing comes after the committee asked for information about making the sale and marketing of weapons using mass shootings that were purchased legally. a strong 7.1 magnitude earthquake rattled the philippines and could be felt hundreds of miles away in manila. a 16th-century bell tower crumbled in the moments after the quake. at least four people have died and 60 others were hurt and there are reports of 58 landslides. kumasi: a really shocking story out of southern california where a woman is accused of posing as a nurse to steal newborn babies. she is facing kidnapping charges. she would stop by the parents as -- she was stopped by the
