but he was able to take out a loan for $200,000 and borrowed another amount of money from his brother-in-law. >> i lost it all. >> in total he lost 1.2 million dollars. he liquidated his entire portfolio. 30 years worth of savings, including his daughter's education fund. meanwhile, the alleged scammer disappeared >> stay away from cryptocurrency. it is a nightmare. >> he is the victim of a scam called pig butchering. where someone builds a relationship on social media, with the goal of fattening them up to get them to invest in crypto. once they invest in crypto, they see it arise in their screen account, and then they end up investing their entire life savings.

investigators, the scam began in 2019, but it has become more prevalent in the u.s.. 740 reports of romance scams were reported in northern california last year. almost double the amount of money lost in 2020. san francisco county, and al amino -- alameda county are one of the top areas this scammed targets. >> victims feel that they can double or triple their money and it matter of day. >> money that vanishes in a couple of days, just like the scam artists. in see wise case, jessica contacted and again two months after he lost everything.
