the new xfinity supersonic bundle. it's kind of a big deal. >> this is abc7news. dan: new details about a road rage incident that led to a police chase through san francisco streets and a major crash. good evening and thank you for joining us. ama: this started with a shot fired in the city's marina district and ended several blocks away in downtown. tim john spoke with witnesses who say the scene was terrifying. >> video showing the aftermath of a violent crash in downtown san francisco wednesday afternoon. >> it sounded like a bomb. wasn't sure what it was. the impact and the noise. >> a road rage incident and crash between two drivers near the intersection of lombard and laguna. the audi driver flashed a gun

that way. ama: your health is a key part of building a better bay area especially as counties try to combat the spread of monkeypox. santa clara county public health officials outlined their monkeypox strategy. new details about who was being disproportionately impacted. amanda del castillo you has more on the message and the community reaction. reporter: new data about those most disproportionately impacted by monkeypox. confirming 41% of the counties cases are among hispanic or latino gay and bisexual men. the county public health department says it tracks trends to better understand who is at highest risk. >> this allows us to do a better job of focusing our efforts on prevention and treatment. reporter: among the county residents confirmed to have the disease, 21 are hispanic or latino. those numbers as of wednesday evening. i turned to omar nunez in san

jose. a community for lgbtq plus latinos and latinas. he's not surprised by the stats. >> we are more gregarious. we are more in groups, family, etc.. reporter: according to the census, 31% of san jose's population identifies as hispanic or latino. a community that was significantly impacted throughout the covid-19 pandemic. >> every time when we think we are getting out of one, there comes another one. reporter: more than just informing latino men about the risks of monkeypox, nunez says spanish speakers need greater outreach. >> they don't even know about it. we need more information among the community in general and in spanish. reporter: sarah cody says her guard was of race, most but not all identified cases have been among men who have sex with men. a majority involved those in

their 40's. the day marked the first of a monkeypox vaccine clinic at the county fairgrounds expo hall with hundreds of appointments already booked in the days to come. cody says even with the current low vaccine supply, more doses are on the way. >> this comes from the federal government to the state government and then to the counties. we will get 700 doses additionally coming into the county. reporter: countywide, 606 t two doses have been administered. continuing to advocate for increased supply. in san jose, abc7news. dan: a growing number of cases and a lack of vaccine as one law maker is demanding and elevated response. >> the time for california and san francisco to declare a state of emergency around monkeypox, we are in an emergency. this virus is spreading. it's not controlled. we don't have enough vaccination

county. it's intended to help underserved farmers in california. several state agencies will purchase food from those farmers and provide them with outreach and education. >> is really designed to create resources to enable food banks to link with local producers to provide quality product that then goes to families in need. ama: california will receive more than $43 million through the program. it's part of the american rescue plan. dan: speaking of that need. some of our abc 7 colleagues built a better bay area by volunteering at the san francisco marin food bank. they spent the afternoon out a pop-up entry at the stones town family ymca in san francisco. disney recently made a donation that will help the food bank serve a need that really has skyrocketed. the food bank is currently distributing food to about 55,000 households every single week. ama: flower watch continues in

the greenhouse at san jose state. the blooming of the so-called corpse flower is well underway now. it's technically called a titan era but is commonly known as a corpse flower because it releases a pungent stench when blooming. the greenhouse manager says the plant started opening up last night and there are multiple signs that the bloom is underway. >> this outer layer started coming up in. it's been doing that throughout the evening and this morning. now it's also really starting to smell quite strongly in here. ama: the bloom is expected to last for about 36 hours. the greenhouse manager says over that time, flowers inside the corpse flower will start to bloom. you can check out the corpse flower via livestream from the san jose street greenhouse but this is as close as you can get. it is not open to the public. dan: it's fun to watch. it looks like some thing from outer space.

let's come back to talk about our weather forecast. sandhya: we were talking about hayes continuing as we head into thursday. smoke from the oak fire. i want to show you the sunset from tonight at 8:23. you see the marine layer down below. up above, you see layers of smoke and certainly un-orange brown hue which is the smoke that is coming in. the good news is it's going to stay in the upper levels of the atmosphere. as we start off tomorrow morning, you will see smoke around 6:00 in the morning. notice that that haze continues but it thins out a bit as we go into tomorrow night. near the surface, the smoke will remain close to the oak fire in yosemite. the heaviest concentration will be there but it is certainly still looking like casey skies. we have fog tonight. as you look from all four of our cameras, you can see gray skies over san francisco come out towards emeryville. certainly will be starting off

the morning with that fog. it's a good thing. the marine layer has compressed. this area of low pressure is going to keep the cooling influence going near the coastline so we don't have to worry about it getting too hot. we saw thunderstorms in the sierra nevada. that's where they will stay tomorrow. increasing clouds from the monsoon moisture. fog along the coast once again. marine layer has compressed which means it's going to be down on the deck. parts of the coast will have to deal with thick fog. right now, two mile and half moon bay. you will see temperatures with 50's and 60's. into noontime, inland areas in the 70's and 80's. near the beaches, still in check in terms of the numbers. into the afternoon, up into the 90's. gray skies from our export-oriented camera. the skyline is diffuse. areas of dense fog in the morning. hazy sunshine's tomorrow. wide range of temperatures.
