dan: new details about a road rage incident that led to a police chase through san francisco streets and a major crash. good evening and thank you for joining us. ama: this started with a shot fired in the city's marina district and ended several blocks away in downtown. tim john spoke with witnesses who say the scene was terrifying. >> video showing the aftermath of a violent crash in downtown san francisco wednesday afternoon. >> it sounded like a bomb. wasn't sure what it was. the impact and the noise. >> a road rage incident and crash between two drivers near the intersection of lombard and laguna. the audi driver flashed a gun and fired shots for speeding away. part of the incident as well as a gunshot hurt in this cellphone video. tristram works nearby and says she heard the infants -- incident happened.

new details about who was being disproportionately impacted. amanda del castillo you has more on the message and the community reaction. reporter: new data about those most disproportionately impacted by monkeypox. confirming 41% of the counties cases are among hispanic or latino gay and bisexual men. the county public health department says it tracks trends to better understand who is at highest risk. >> this allows us to do a better job of focusing our efforts on prevention and treatment. reporter: among the county residents confirmed to have the disease, 21 are hispanic or latino. those numbers as of wednesday evening. i turned to omar nunez in san jose. a community for lgbtq plus latinos and latinas. he's not surprised by the stats. >> we are more gregarious. we are more in groups, family,

etc.. reporter: according to the census, 31% of san jose's population identifies as hispanic or latino. a community that was significantly impacted throughout the covid-19 pandemic. >> every time when we think we are getting out of one, there comes another one. reporter: more than just informing latino men about the risks of monkeypox, nunez says spanish speakers need greater outreach. >> they don't even know about it. we need more information among the community in general and in spanish. reporter: sarah cody says her guard was of race, most but not all identified cases have been among men who have sex with men. a majority involved those in their 40's. the day marked the first of a monkeypox vaccine clinic at the county fairgrounds expo hall with hundreds of appointments already booked in the days to come. cody says even with the current low vaccine supply, more doses

are on the way. >> this comes from the federal government to the state government and then to the counties. we will get 700 doses additionally coming into the county. reporter: countywide, 606 t two doses have been administered. continuing to advocate for increased supply. in san jose, abc7news. dan: a growing number of cases and a lack of vaccine as one law maker is demanding and elevated response. >> the time for california and san francisco to declare a state of emergency around monkeypox, we are in an emergency. this virus is spreading. it's not controlled. we don't have enough vaccination happening. we don't have enough testing. dan: people lined up outside steam works baths in berkeley today during a vaccine clinic. a clinic at zuckerberg san francisco general hospital ran out of vaccines as we reported

lorenzo without fear of violence. ama: the alameda county sheriff's office continues to investigate the incident involving the proud boys. dan: a brush noay has been contained. the fire was first reported about 5:15 this evening near lakeville. it burned about 50 acres and kicked up enough smoke that it could be seen for miles away. it took a little bit more than an hour for firefighters to snuff out the hotspots. ama: the oak fire is 36% contain. let's get to abc7news meteorologist sandhya patel with more on how it's continuing to impact her air quality. sandia: we started seeing some signs of smoke from the oak fire. you can see it here from our tower camera. the marine layer down below. right up above is where we have been seeing the smoke just hovering in the upper parts of

the atmosphere which is why the air-quality advisory has been expended tomorrow. smoke will remain aloft due to the oak fire down below. good air quality is expected. it's good except around ukiah. conditions near yosemite, it's good to moderate right now. hour-by-hour, we will show you the smoke forecast. smoke continues to linger through tomorrow. and then it starts to spin out a little bit. i will be back with a full look at the forecast to let you know what's ahead for the weekend. dan: twitter pulling back on what was an ambitious expansion plan. the company announced plans to be out of it san francisco office on 10th street. the company will still keep its market street headquarters. it has scrapped plans to open an office in oakland. it's part of a bigger plan to downsize the company's office space around the world. san francisco supervisor matt dorsey is concerned these changes could affect the city's tax base and hurt small

dan: sad news and solano county. four people dead after a crash that happened after 8:00 tonight on highway 12. emergency crews expect traffic will continue to be affected tonight along with the four

victims who died on the scene, six others were transported to hospitals. investigators haven't released any information about what may have led to this terrible crash. ama: live nation is responding to the uproar surrounding dave chapelle by adding more shows to his schedule. the company announced a fifth chapelle performance tomorrow night has been added to the series of shows he's doing this week at santa rosa's burbank center for the arts. a fifth show was already in live nation's contract. chapelle has been heavily criticized for josie's done in recent years about the lgbtq community leading to the cancellation of one of his shows last week in minneapolis. dan: let's move to the economy and your money. the federal reserve today made another aggressive move to attain the highest inflation in 40 years. once again raising the interest rate three quarters of a point. is the fourth increase this year. abc news reporter morgan norwood has more on what that means for you. reporter: determined to tamp down inflation, the federal

reserve once again and for the fourth time this year raising interest rates three quarters of a point. >> we are trying to do the right amount. we are not trying to have a recession. we don't think we have to. we think there's a path for us to be able to bring inflation down while sustaining a strong labor market. reporter: americans feeling the strain of inflation. the cost of everything consistently getting more expensive. tracy wetherbee in san jose california sees the impact every day. they are now serving about 450,000 people each month. 50,000 more than in january. >> this kind of inflation is really impacting people's budgets. 60% of the people that we serve has -- have less than $100 in savings. reporter: there's hope that prices will come down. it means the cost of borrowing is going up. take credit cards. if you carry a balance of $5,000 making minimum monthly payments,

the rate hike will cost you nearly $300 in additional interest to pay it off. >> my colleagues and i are aware that high inflation imposes significant hardship especially on those least able to meet the higher cost of essentials like food, housing, transportation. reporter: relief from washington could come soon. joe biden releasing a statement after chuck schumer and joe manchin reached a deal on the inflation reduction act of 2022. the president saying the agreement will lower the cost of prescription drugs and health care for 13 million americans. for now, the white house is working to calm fears about an pro chain -- approaching recession. >> the way that we see is that we are not currently in a recession or a pre-recession. reporter: abc news, los angeles. ama: more produce from california farms will be coming to food banks under a partnership that could be new growth opportunity for struggling farmers. tom vilsack made the announcement today in yolo

county. it's intended to help underserved farmers in california. several state agencies will purchase food from those farmers and provide them with outreach and education. >> is really designed to create resources to enable food banks to link with local producers to provide quality product that then goes to families in need. ama: california will receive more than $43 million through the program. it's part of the american rescue plan. dan: speaking of that need. some of our abc 7 colleagues built a better bay area by volunteering at the san francisco marin food bank. they spent the afternoon out a pop-up entry at the stones town family ymca in san francisco. disney recently made a donation that will help the food bank serve a need that really has skyrocketed. the food bank is currently distributing food to about 55,000 households every single week. ama: flower watch continues in

the greenhouse at san jose state. the blooming of the so-called corpse flower is well underway now. it's technically called a titan era but is commonly known as a corpse flower because it releases a pungent stench when blooming. the greenhouse manager says the plant started opening up last night and there are multiple signs that the bloom is underway. >> this outer layer started coming up in. it's been doing that throughout the evening and this morning. now it's also really starting to smell quite strongly in here. ama: the bloom is expected to last for about 36 hours. the greenhouse manager says over that time, flowers inside the corpse flower will start to bloom. you can check out the corpse flower via livestream from the san jose street greenhouse but this is as close as you can get. it is not open to the public. dan: it's fun to watch. it looks like some thing from outer space.

let's come back to talk about our weather forecast. sandhya: we were talking about hayes continuing as we head into thursday. smoke from the oak fire. i want to show you the sunset from tonight at 8:23. you see the marine layer down below. up above, you see layers of smoke and certainly un-orange brown hue which is the smoke that is coming in. the good news is it's going to stay in the upper levels of the atmosphere. as we start off tomorrow morning, you will see smoke around 6:00 in the morning. notice that that haze continues but it thins out a bit as we go into tomorrow night. near the surface, the smoke will remain close to the oak fire in yosemite. the heaviest concentration will be there but it is certainly still looking like casey skies. we have fog tonight. as you look from all four of our cameras, you can see gray skies over san francisco come out towards emeryville. certainly will be starting off

the morning with that fog. it's a good thing. the marine layer has compressed. this area of low pressure is going to keep the cooling influence going near the coastline so we don't have to worry about it getting too hot. we saw thunderstorms in the sierra nevada. that's where they will stay tomorrow. increasing clouds from the monsoon moisture. fog along the coast once again. marine layer has compressed which means it's going to be down on the deck. parts of the coast will have to deal with thick fog. right now, two mile and half moon bay. you will see temperatures with 50's and 60's. into noontime, inland areas in the 70's and 80's. near the beaches, still in check in terms of the numbers. into the afternoon, up into the 90's. gray skies from our export-oriented camera. the skyline is diffuse. areas of dense fog in the morning. hazy sunshine's tomorrow. wide range of temperatures. our seasonal pattern continues

into next week. really comfortable right now. 50's to 70's. tomorrow morning, primarily 50's and 60's. sam aroused -- santa rosa down to 43 degrees. a lot of fog out there to start the day. in the afternoon, fog pulls away. hazy skies and temperatures from the upper 80's to low 90's inland. it will be warmer. low 60's along the coast. everyone else in between. morning fogs giving way to hazy skies. warmer for friday. temperatures backing off a few degrees as we head into the weekend. really great weather for outdoor activities. humidity goes up early next week as we bring in some monsoonal moisture. could see a. stay tuned. that is still a few days out.
