the windshield wipers will be needed. the marine layer. a great start to the day, fog fins through the morning, typical july pattern. in the afternoon, bright, breezy, temperatures 70's and 80's. we will talk about the highs and we can forecast in a few minutes. kumasi: now to the bay area battle against monkeypox. san francisco is the first in the nation to declare a state of emergency. >> we do not want to be ignored by the federal government in our need. kumasi: local officials were inside of city hall yesterday demanding help her community in need. it is a type of focus many have been calling for for weeks now. right now, every bay area county has at least one case of monkeypox. reggie: the county with most cases a san francisco at 281. more than any other county in the state. one of these cases is jd melendez who lives in the city,

was diagnosed with monkeypox this week. he describes excruciating symptoms. >> they give me some type of loaded cream which has not helped. they also provided me with vicodin, and it also did not help with the pain. reggie: this morning, abc7news reported tim johns has the latest word from our health officials. >> if there were any other community that was disproportionately impacted by monkeypox the way the gay community has been impacted, this whole country would be up in arms. >> the san francisco mayor holding a news conference inside of city hall thursday, declaring a state of emergency in the city over this right of monkeypox. >> by sounding the alarm, what we're saying is this will not be ignored, that this is a public health crisis. >> according to the san francisco department of public health, the city house 281 cases

-- has 281 cases with a disproportionate cases between men who have sex with men. >> i have talked with too many doctors and folks who have gotten monkeypox, who described the symptoms associated with this, the potentially life-threat -- lifelong disfigurement that can come from monkeypox, people need to take this seriously. >> for weeks, demand for the vaccine has far outstripped supply. people have been lining up for hours only to be told none were available. as of thursday, san francisco received around 12,000 doses with health officials saying 70,000 are actually needed. >> it is wild to look back and think, did we learn nothing? we just went through a pandemic where everyone was like oh my god, if a vaccine was available to everyone, we would be in a better space. now this thing is happening, this crisis is happening. >> clayton bishop got a vaccine a few weeks ago by luck.

reggie: some neighbors in san francisco are having to worry about even more struggling. getting evicted. they say they never stopped paying rent and do not understand why they're being displaced. richard has lived in this community for more than 50 years. has mom passed away in october and she was the main person in the contract. now he is getting evicted. he has been pacing back and forth in his home for days trying to decide what he will do to find shelter. >> iave not ating or . likestightmare ever came true. the aspect of me becoming homeless at the age of 61 is frightening. reggie: it turns out richard is not alone, his neighbors are coming together to expose what they say is retaliation by the buildings board and management against residents who report

damages in their unit. we tried to speaking to the building management and we are told no one was available. the supervisor that represents the district says these infections have placed on hold. residents are hoping for the city to intervene. a kind of sounds like the beginning of a joke. a democrat and two republicans walk into a bar but their solution according to them is not a joke. they are launching forward a new political party aimed at moderates. former democratic president candidate andrew yang and two others made the announcement wednesday. in the washington post op-ed, the group says political extremism is ripping our nation apart. they are appealing to what they call the moderate common sense majority. forward says their aim is to end gerrymandering, advocate for rank choice, and protect voting rights nationwide. unprecedented changes add lake tahoe have scientists concern about the future of the lake. the tahoe environmental research
