abc7news at 11:00. remember we are streaming 24/7. get the bay area app and join us whenever you want, wherever you are. dan: finally tonight, a few thoughts about what really matters. as if we need something else to worry about. monkeypox is spreading, making headlines and a growing number of people nervous. so much so that the mayor of san francisco declared a public health emergency yesterday, as we reported. san francisco has nearly 300 reported cases, and with los angeles, account for two thirds of all cases in the state. a statewide emergency declaration is under consideration and we will have to see whether they decide that is warranted, but these declarations like the one in san francisco can speed up vaccine distribution and research and help get treatment to people faster. look, monkeypox is not coronavirus. it will not have the same impact on lives in the economy as covid
6:56 pm
but it is a painful and dangerous virus that is spreading more rapidly. sadly, just like initial months of covid, the government has been caught on its heels, slow to respond my behind on testing and getting enough vaccine into communities like san francisco and l.a., as well as others across the country. what really matters is the lesson from covid. we must react faster to monkeypox and whatever comes next to keep a public health emergency from becoming a crisis. i always love to hear from you. let me know what you think him a me on twitter and facebook. karina: that's it for this edition of abc7news. thank you for joining us. dan: for all of us here, we appreciate your time. have a nice evening and we will see you at 11:00.
