like this in the future, you can download our app from the app store. san jose police are investigating after a vehicle struck a child riding a bicycle on winfield boulevard last night. the young bicyclist was transported to a nearby hospital. the child has been stabilized. the driver is cooperating with police and remained at the scene. now to the monkeypox virus. san francisco has the most cases of any bay area county with 305 people infected. alameda county is in the red with 50 cases. los angeles and san francisco counties makeup 60% of all cases in california. individuals infected with the virus predominantly identify as gay. california senators alex padilla and dianne feinstein have put in a request for 800,000 doses o m.

a berkeley lab is ramping up testing. abc news went inside renegade bio yesterday. the lab has the capacity to detect monkeypox in a sample within four hours. machines can determine the origin of the virus. >> this machine amplifies the genetic information of the virus by fluctuating between hot and cool temperatures. at the end of 40 cycles of temperature fluctuation, the results are viewable on screen as s curves if the virus is present. liz: renegade bio lab is testing samples for solano county. we have everything you need to know about monkeypox. you can head to our website, abc7news.com. we have new details about what happened before in county sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man yesterday morning.

the sheriffs office says one deputy tased the man before another deputy shot him off thomas road. the taser apparently had no effect on the man who appeared to be holding a weapon. they say he refused to drop. sheriff's deputies were there because they got a call the man was acting strangely. >> he has been out there since 5:30 this morning. he has stolen and a vtb -- an at v and going property to property. liz: he was pulling up to homes in the area and even throwing a rock through a window and asking a person to shoot him. he stole an atv. the santa rosa police department is helping to investigate and will release more details in the coming days. ♪ liz: holy political favors, batman.

that is the allegation against outgoing san mateo county sheriff carlos bolanos for sending a four man team across the country to raid the garage that builds batmobile's. one of the sheriff's friends ordered a batmobile and was not happy with how long it was taking. we have the story you will only see on seven. >> sam anagnostou is a real estate agent who lives in atherton. >> you have got to be ready to catch it. reporter: this profile video online shows he likes expensive toys. he ordered a $210,000 batmobile from fiberglass freaks of indiana. >> now you can have your very own replica of the batmobile. reporter: complete with flashing beacon light, detective scope.ve

batmobile's in production. he tells me that was first in line and paid 100 $70,000 but then missed a $20,000 payment. >> he disappeared on me. reporter: he moved to the bottom of the list. he would have to wait a year and a half or two for his batmobile. >> he did not like that. he exploded. he did pay off the entire car at that point. he was livid to find out his car was going to be delayed. reporter: he filed a complaint with a certain police. the san mateo county district attorney declined to bring criminal charges according to this letter. he also filed a lawsuit in san mateo county superior court alleging breach of contract and fraud. a dismissed the case,

saying indiana is the proper venue. sources inside the san mateo county sheriff's department told me he asked sheriff carlos bolanos to intervene. he sent a lieutenant, sergeant, and two deputies to indiana. they rated fiberglass freaks last week. >> they showed the warrant saying they were here to seize anything to do with his car. i thought they are coming in to pick up hist asoi to have to move my other batmobile's out-of-the-way to let them take this car. reporter: investigators took only two files of documents according to the search warrant. they read his miranda rights, brought him to the local jail for an hour but let him go. he only later found out they got a warrant for his contacts and photos and froze his bank account and charged him in california with two felonies,

diversion of construction funds. >> i was horrified. i have never gone through anything like this in my life. i am on the side of good. as a batman fan since i was two, this was the opposite side. i loved 1966 batman. reporter: i interviewed the district attorney prosecuting this case. he wrote a letter last year saying there would be no criminal charges. what changed? >> additional investigation. the detectives were able to obtain search warrant and additional evidence. reporter: she would not discuss that additional evidence or the unusual step of sending four investigators across the country for what racop argues is a civil dispute. is the sheriff stepping in for a friend? >> i cannot speak to that. i have no knowledge about what

relationship the sheriff has with the victim. reporter: i wanted to talk about sheriff bolanos about sam anagnostou. hotels for three nights, meals, over time here he did not return my calls and texts. his office confirmed he is away on a month of vacation. he leaves office in january. the undersheriff in charge mark robbins and the detective spokesman refused my request for interview. >> i cannot imagine why it is in criminal court. it shocks me. reporter: i ran the case by tony brass, former prosecutor for san francisco. he says this squabble over a luxury item belongs in indiana civil court. with no involvement by the san mateo county sheriff's department. >> it defies reason in my view why so many people, a high of

law enforcement would have to go and enforce something so unnecessary and so trivial. reporter: i did reach sam ignacio by phone in greece where he is on vacation. he said i am dealing with someone privately on that. i asked who is that? he hung up. investigating this story, i learned something more about mark break up. he is a minister. i watched his church sermon this past sunday. >> it is the only thing that helps me through this. i should expect trials and tribulations. it is part of being a christian. as a preacher, this is an attempt to besmirch my reputation. liz: abc 7 news reached out to a lawyer for sam attanasio. he said his client is returning from greece in a few days, and

the morning hours. we will look at tomorrow for increasing clouds. higher humidity as we get some moisture moving up from the south. that brings the chance for thunderstorms and showers sunday into monday. it is a 48 hour chance. here is a look at the cloud cover today as it retreats. you will notice throughout the morning and as we get into the afternoon, we have got sunny skies inland, partly cloudy skies at the coast. sunday, notice the extra cloud cover moving to the north. then we are going to add in the possibility of showers. notice over towards the sierra nevada likely. the central coast, the southbay, and then the higher humidity we might feel that as we get into your sunday and monday. the chance diminishes on tuesday. here is the 48 hour rainfall potential. here into the deserts and

mountains, a better chance. if we see any rain with this, this is going to be good news. the lightning would be bad because that could initiate a wildfire. we will watch that carefully in terms of fires. the smoke has been primarily out of the bay area. here is a look at our surface smoke. hazy throughout the sacramento valley and even the east bay. the sierra nevada from southlake into yosemite, it has been hot. we will continue to see the good air quality fading throughout the afternoon. temperatures not that warm around the bay. 67 oakland. 74 fremont. 80's from livermore, 86 by the delta. the accuweather 7 day forecast adding more humidity and the chance of thunderstorms sunday. that lingers into monday. as we get into the rest of the

nest. anchor: reporter: the triangular-shaped towers were originally laid out as part of a design competition. we got a look at the concepts earlier this year during a visit to the california college of the arts where students were tasked with turning locally sourced materials into structures that would support specific habitats. professor margaret ikeda says it is a chance to scale up the theoretical. >> these structures were done digitally. that is the beauty of drawing using tools to visualize. reporter: fellow students spend weekends joining the parts using knots and techniques from native people. >> we followed the techniques from indigenous elders. reporter: the habitats are designed to enhance areas.

ask the u.s. to return to quiet diplomacy after the white house announced an offer was on the table. until the deal is finalized, the family of paul whelan is slow to celebrate, his brother releasing a statement saying i do not anticipate seeing any movement for months or at least until brittney griner's case has concluded. liz: a brutal robbery in daly city caught on camera. this happened thursday around 4:30 in the afternoon on skyline drive. police say the robert struck the victim with a firearm and stole his watch. the robber got away in a red vehicle. investigators say the 71-year-old victim was treated for injuries at the scene but did not go to the hospital. the victim's family tells abc 7 news they believe they were followed from a bank in san

leandro. san francisco police are offering a $75,000 award in a homicide investigation in the tenderloin. police believe the man riding on the handlebars of this bicycle could be a killer. they say he shot 24-year-old michael warren on ellis street. police have images from several angles. one shows the suspect wearing a giants cap and a large sweatshirt. they have not disclosed motive now to the latest covid-19 developments. after a small decline in test positivity in california, the seven-day average is going up, 15.8%. face masks are required on bart. the board of directors will decide in september whether to extend the mandate. a new study of kaiser north california patients shows adults who do not live with kids under five were nearly twice as likely

in los angeles, health officials declining to impose an indoor mask mandate, citing a decrease in hospitalizations. in milwaukee, its public school system is updating guidance to require masks when covid-19 levels are high based on county cases. president biden says he tested negative friday morning after battling the virus urging americans to take the necessary precautions to protect thse covid is still with us. what is different is our ability to protect ourselves from serious illness. reporter: the biden administration has decided to hold off on rolling out second boosters for everyone under 50 until september when vaccines should be ready. the administration hopes to start a new campaign to get people under 50 to get a fourth shot. liz: yesterday, abc 7 news

special correspondent alok patel talked about the fall booster shot plan. >> moderna and pfizer are going to be putting forward a bivalent vaccine that will cover what the vaccines are currently targeting plus an updated strain would target ba.4 and ba.5. reporter: dr. patel said doctors estimate covid cases from those variants may be as high as seven times the amount reported because so many are testing at home. will smith has posted a video apologizing to chris rock for slapping him at the oscars, the first time smi has gone on camera to talk abt there is not thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment. liz: yesterday, smith released the video on social media.
