>> right away we begin with breaking news. gunfire at a heinz -- a high school campus. three people shot. j.r. stone is live in oakland. you tell us this shooting happened during a football game. reporter: that is what we hear from witnesses tonight. we have reached out to police and they have not gotten back to us with any official statement as to what happens. we know that officers have been canvassing the area near the high school for much of the afternoon. this is what it looked like shortly after gunshots rang out. the football team from fresno was playing oakland when

gunshots rang out in the stands. an adult male was shot, a five-year-old girl was shot, and another female was grazed by a bullet. we talked with a pop warner coach a little while ago. >> i heard of these kids running and screaming. when you see their faces and you see how they react to things like that, it makes it even worse. kids do not deserve to see things like this. they do not need to be around things like this. when you come to these events, the things on the outside should not be going on here. it hurts that it happened here today. reporter: police have not said if any arrests have been made or who they are looking for or what they are looking for. many questions tonight. we will have much more on the story tonight at 11:00. j.r. stone, abc7news. dion: many thanks.

tonight we remember nba superstar bill russell, a trailblazer in the world of sports and civil rights. it started in oakland and san francisco. chris alvarez joins us with a look back at his career. chris: bill russell is one of the greatest athletes in american sports. he was born in oakland and went to high school before the university of san francisco. he was inducted into the hall of fame in 1959. in the nba he won 11 championships with 13 seasons with the celtics. here is russell in 1996 on the social impact he made and how out -- how athletes were viewed. >> i think i have a lot to do

monkeypox. cornell barnard spoke with organizers and attendees about concerns. >> it is good to see one of the last vestiges of the out and about things surviving. reporter: russ bono from paul springs never misses the street fair that is a celebration of all things fetish. angel says this year the timing of a recent state of emergency over monkeypox has raised concerns. >> in previous years it was body to body and that is not the case. reporter: the scaled-down event stretched several blocks. no alcohol allowed. the san francisco department of public health was doing outreach about monkeypox. tim jane took precautions in the crowd. >> it seems awful.

i say, spencer, we are monitoring thunderstorms rolling in and the timing is interesting because with it could come rain. spencer: we could get some. vivid displays of showers are showing up on the doppler right now but at the moment, we just have some spotty sprinkles near richmond and lafayette and discovery bay and sonoma. in the sierra, a widespread outbreak of thunderstorms with lightning. none of it is likely to reach the bay area. i may take you overnight and see what is expected. increase in clouds. more humidity. 5:00 a.m., some showers will pop up in the bay area. they will be light. the could be some steady rain in the central valley near livermore and altamont pass. by midday, we expect widespread

light showers south of the golden gate that will not last long. only one hundredths of an inch of rain. this means a reduction in fire concerns but if we have lightning strikes, it could increase the risk of fire danger . i will have the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. dion: new mandatory evacuation orders are now in place, triggered by a wildfire in siskiyou county. the bikini fire is burning near the oregon border in the calumet national forest. 51,500 acres are burning and there is no concern -- there is no con you can hear the powerful gusts of wind as they push the flames. the fire started two days ago and exploded in size, becoming the largest wildfire in the state this year.

an unknown number of structures have burned. one man in the path of the fire talked about his race to safety. >> when i got to the community center, it was almost on fire. i was like, this is not good. so i put the pedal to the metal and bogeyed. dion: i don't blame him. it is dangerously close to the pacific crest trail where at least 60 hikers have been evacuated. a wildfire burning near yosemite is expected to be contained august 6. containment is 64%. the fire started eight days ago and has consumed 116 homes and 66 at bageling's. 30's -- outbuildings. at square miles have burned. calfire says it was started by a person. gunfire on a freeway injured two people last night on northbound

dion: actress and singer nichelle nichols, most well-known from star trek, has died. her son said she died of natural causes. she was a television rarity in 1966, a black woman in a noble role on a prime time tv series. following star trek she helped make nasa more diverse, helping to recruit astronauts, including sally ride. in east bay, a store robbery on telegraph this morning. two suspects entered the liquor store. the store owner, armed to the gun, confronted them.

one suspect broke a window to escape. police detained the store owner after receiving phone calls of a man with a gun on the street. negrete -- nearby streets were shut down. it is unclear if police have arrested two sup -- suspects. a san francisco couple i introduce you to last week says the city reversed the ticket they were issued for parking in a red zone that was being painted while they were parked there. they say they have parked in that spot for the past 25 years and that the spot -- and yet the city says the area was always a red zone. as you can see, it was extremely faded. spencer: sprinkles, light showers, possibly in isolated thunderstorms are elements of my accurate
