>>uiing a better bayre >> get the kid! dion: chaos at a youth football game in oakland as gunfire sends people running off to safety. the moments leading up to the shooting. good evening and thank you for joining us. you are watching abc seven news at 11. let's start with the weather because there was a chance for rain and thunderstorms tonight. spencer, lightning is the last thing we need. spencer: you're right about that. we have not seen it yet and it is likely we will not. you can see there is a lot of moisture showing up on the radar

screen around san francisco. across the bay we had patches of sprinkles. further east, you can seem a more widespread area of showers or sprinkles. still no reports of measurable rain. there is moisture in the air and some is hitting the ground. there may be some wet spots in the morning. you can see it looks like the map will become more active by 5:00 a.m. by midday, we expect a wider area of light showers or sprinkles. no indication yet of enough instability to produce thunderstorms. that is good news. dion: thank you. tonight all new video showing the chaos after gunshots rang out at a youth football game in oakland. police say three people were shot and all survived. witnesses say one victim was

just five years old. no arrests have been made. it happened at oakland tech high school. j.r. stone spoke with witnesses and has this video. reporter: these are the moments after gunshots rang out at a youth 10 and under football game at oakland tech high school. kids and families on the ground taking cover. >> we heard six shots going off. my instinct was to get the boys off the field. i told them to drop to the ground. i laid on top of them. once i heard the shooting stopped i picked up my head and then i heard another six shots. reporter: francine coaches the team from fresno taking on the boys -- the team from oakland. gunshots rang out sending parents running back into the bleachers and elsewhere. >> i got them up.

parents were running and screaming for their kids. i was trying to help families get the kids over the fence. reporter: oakland police confirmed that in total three people were shot. witnesses say a five-year-old girl was hit along with a man and a woman. >> i don't know if they were shooting at each other. kids don't deserve to be witnessing things like this. kids don't need to be around things like this. it hurts that it happened here today. reporter: officers have not said what led to the shooting. the coach saw the man that was hit. he believes he was hit by a stray bullet. >> you see the kids crying and in fear. families are in fear. it was horrible. reporter: no arrests have been made and police have not

released a description of the shooter or shooters in this case. they are stone, abc7news. dion: a man was found shot to death in the middle of the street this afternoon. oakland police made the discovery on 90th avenue. sky 7 caught the aftermath and you can see the heavy police response in the area. no arrests have been made. oakland police are also investigating a robbery that happened on telegraph avenue this morning. in the video you see two suspects enter the liquor store trying to steal items and that is when the store owner armed with a gun confronted him. one suspect broke a large window to escape. police detained the store owner after hearing reports of a man with a gun in the street. it is still unclear if police arrested the suspects. another bold grab and go robbery that happened at a walgreens in

san francisco this morning. cellphone video from a customer shows anyee followi a man through the store on gary and taylor streets. the employee tries to stop the man as he grabs items off the shelves putting them in his pants before walking out of the store. we reached out to san francisco police for comment but have not heard back. bill russell was a giant on and off the court. he grew up in the bay area starring on the basketball court for usf before coming to the center of the boston celtics dynasty. he was also a prominent figure in the civil-rights movement. he died today at the age of 88. chris alvarez joining us the look at his career which we can only describe as illustrious. chris: what a life and career he lived. bill russell is one of the greatest athletes in all of american sports. he grew up in oakland. he had a legendary career at the

university of san francisco leading the program to consecutive championships in 1955 and 1956. in the nba he put together a hall of fame career winning 11 nba championships in 13 seasons with the boston celtics. here he is on the social impact he made. >> i think i had a lot to do with the respect that athletes are treated with, black and white. >> one of my dad's favorite quotes is he is not sure about heaven. heaven could be a step down for him because for him have and was playing with the celtics. chris: there were multiple moments of silence across major league baseball and in boston, there was a moment of silence during the red sox game. he was awarded the presidential medal of freedom. adam silver released a statement saying bill russell was the greatest champion in all of team sports.

and at the 2019 espy's he won the arthur asch courage award. later in sports we will talk to coach steve kerr. dion: so much more than an athlete. many thanks. coming out of northern california where a raging wildfire has become the largest in the state this year. the mckinney fire is out of control and has scorched over 50,000 acres near the oregon border. numerous hikers had to be rescued from the famous pacific crest trail. we spoke to some former residents who are worried they may have to evacuate. >> look at that burn. reporter: moments of terror. the mckinney fire captured on video by this person frantically searching on friday for his friends. >> he had minutes to get out of there before the fire engulfed us. reporter: whipping winds sending

flames through the forest and beyond wiping out more than 50,000 acres since friday and forcing more than 2000 people from their homes. mason later learning his burned to the ground. >> the fire was in your face. i got burned on my face. it was so intense. reporter: meanwhile, sharon and duane are on evacuation alerts. >> it is still like 11 miles away from us but they are worried that the embers will start the pasture burning. reporter: hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. do you have your rv packed in case you have to move? >> yes, we got it set up

yesterday. >> we filled up all the gas tanks. >> we filled every water tank we own in case we lose power. reporter: this is their typical view of mount shasta now swallowed by smoke filled skies. that low visibility adding to an already challenging battle as fire crews work around the clock. >> it is a big and beautiful forest but it is steeped with rugged terrain. coupled with the high temperatures and low humidity, they all make it an extreme fire danger situation. reporter: the situation is also tough to predict. 0% of the fire is contained as of sunday evening. >> this is an evolving occasion. reporter: officials have not confirmed how many structures have been destroyed but we know

dion: just and singer michelle nichols has died. she was best known for her groundbreaking portrayal of the lieutenant in the star trek tv series. her son released a statement saying she died of natural causes. she was a tv rarity in 1966. a black woman in a notable role on a primetime television series. she helped make nasa more diverse helping to recruit women astronauts. she was 89 years old pure a popular adult only summer street fair returned this weekend to san francisco with changes. the fare is back for 2022 with strong precautions against monkeypox. abc7news reporter cornell barnard spoke with organizers and attendees about their

anything -- any close contact with any person. i am vaccinated for monkeypox but it is a big concern. reporter: renegade bio was doing monkeypox testing for a research study. >> we are trying to understand if we can detect monkeypox earlier on and asymptomatic population. reporter: it is hard to know if this event will be a super-spreader for monkeypox but arming the population is the first step. >> we are making sure that we can still gather and connect and give people a lot of room to assess their risk. dion: we have everything you need to know about monkeypox including vaccines and treatment on our website. new details on a local story that made international headlines. a san francisco couple i introduced you to last week said the city reversed the ticket

they were issued for parking in a red zone that was repainted while they were parked there. desiree and jeff jolley say they parked in the spot on larkin and union streets for the last 25 years. it has always been a red zone. the paint was extremely, extremely faded. spencer, my energy is fading about now. we have enough energy to tell everybody about the pending forecast. spencer: it looks like a fading chance of showers but let me show you what is going on. this is a rather impressive blanket of moisture in the upper atmosphere and in the middle levels as well. it looks like we have rain all over the area right now especially over the east bay but nothing is being reported in terms of measurable rain at any of our reporting stations but some must be hitting the ground in some spots.

much of it is evaporating before hitting the ground. over the sancho cruise area and the mount hamilton areas as where we show the greatest amount of moisture. breezy conditions at the surface. 22 miro per hour -- 20 to mile-per-hour winds in san francisco. the inland areas away from the bay and the coast, it is up to four degrees warmer then this time last night. here is the view looking down to parts of san francisco and the bay as the clouds at this level are not very thick right now. we have loaded mid 60's in palo alto. 59 in half moon bay. a nice view from emeryville looking back across the bridge. it is 60 in santa rosa. 61 in napa.

and the view, and it is a clear one from our rooftop camera looking across to the embarcadero. those lay cloudy overnight. humid with sprinkles developing if they have not already. a chance for measurable shower activity tomorrow and may be isolated thunderstorm. we will get more sunny and quieter weather in the middle of the week. here is the forecast animation. clouds developing after midnight. budging inland. 5:00 a.m., we expect to see a greater chance of some showers but they will be lights and widespread. further east, there is a greater chance of actual shower activity. midday tomorrow, chances will improve her showers and possibly for the isolated thunderstorm we have been talking about. as the instability in the atmosphere increases in the afternoon. the chances faded tomorrow night into tuesday. we dry out midweek.

reporter: he filed a complaint with atherton police but last september, a district attorney declined to bring criminal charges. according to this letter. he also filed a lawsuit in superior court alleging breach of contract and fraud but this last march, a judge dismissed the case saying indiana is the proper venue. sources inside the sheriff's department tell me the realtor ask his facebook friend, the sheriff to intervene. he sent a lieutenant, sergeant and two deputies to indiana. they raided fiberglass freaks last week. >> they showed the warrant to show they would seize everything having to do with his car. i thought they were coming to pick up the car. i thought i was going to have to move my other batmobile's out of the way to let them take the car. reporter: investigators only

took two files of documents. he only later found out they got a warrant for his gmail, contacts and photos, and they froze his bank account and charged him with two felonies, obtaining money by false pretenses and diverting construction funds. >> i was horrified. i am on the side of good. this was a completely opposite side. batman always stood with the law. reporter: i interviewed the district attorney prosecuting the case. you wrote a letter saying there would be no criminal charges. what changed? >> additional investigation. the detectives were able to obtain search warrants and

additional evidence. reporter: marie mclaughlin would not discuss the additional evidence or the unusual step of sending four investigators across the country for what is argued to be a simple business dispute. >> is the sheriff stepping in for a friend? >> i cannot speak to that. i have no knowledge of what relationship if any that sheriff has with the victim. reporter: i wanted to talk to the sheriff about the use of public funds. four round-trip airfare tickets. meals and hotels. his office confirmed he is away on a month of vacation. he leaves office in january after losing the election. the undersheriff in charge arc robbins and the spokesperson refused my request for an interview citing the ongoing investigation. >> i cannot imagine why it is in

criminal court. reporter: i ran the case by a former prosecutor for san francisco. he says the squabble over a luxury item belongs in indiana civil court with no involvement by the san mateo county sheriff's department. >> it simply defies reason in my view why so many people, so many high-ranking members of law enforcement would have to go and enforce something so unnecessary and so trivial. reporter: i did reach him by phone in -- in on vacation. he was surprised. he said he was dealing with someone privately about that. in investigating the story i learned more about him as he is a minister. >> it is the only thing that helps me through this.

dion: now to the devastation and doubly flooding in eastern kentucky. the death toll has risen to 28 and nearly 40 people are still missing. rescue crews are desperately searching for people as rainfall exits way to heavily damaged areas. the governor is warning residents to seek higher ground and shelter as a flood watch goes into effect on monday. k-9 units are searching debris for survivors. >> there is a human sent in the water because others have been drowned in the water. dion: drone video shows the damage to businesses and homes costing hundreds of millions of dollars. some flood victims are having difficulty finding water they can drink. in southern california, caltrans is clearing debris from a mudslide on highway 38 in the san bernardino national forest. no injuries were reported on the

road is still closed. caltrans says the large amount of debris from the el dorado fire is to blame. once again, another check of the weather. nothing like what we are experiencing but there should be some precipitation. spencer: there should be sound. we have a lot of moisture in the area. a lot is showing up in the higher elevations of the santa cruz mountains. no reports of any measurable rain hitting the ground. there is no doubt some sprinkles are falling around the bay area. during the early morning commute, we will see light showers which will become more widespread by midday. later in the day we will see the precipitation go away. on tuesday, there could be fingering humidity but little chance of rainfall. overnight, at low temperatures in the 60's. up to about 92 degrees in lynch.
