close to the coast with 60's around the bay shoreline but warm spots like clearlake and antioch at 70 and 71 degrees respectively. there is warm air inland this morning. a different picture today compared to yesterday. i look from exploratorium camera showing you cloud starting this guidelines. your sunrise is at 6:15 this morning. we keep humidity with us elevated, so it still feels muggy. 70's and 80's. we keep i clouds in the forecast, especially the north bay throughout the early afternoon. sunnier skies prevailed around the south bay later today. 70's, 80's and low 90's. there is still a chance of an isolated shower, but i think that chance is pretty low and limited for the north bay. we'll talk about that in about eight minutes. kumasi: we start with developing news, construction equipment surrounding a park near uc berkeley. a controversial plan would change the park continue housing university. one alameda county judge gave the green light to break ground five days ago.

abc 7's with details -- abc 7's ryan curry joins us with details. ryan: we are at one of the many barricaded sites surrounding people's park, many places around the park are closed off with ample amount of security. it appears the construction crew has moved in towards the middle of the night without the knowledge of protesters and those opposing the opposition. many areas are closed off as they start to begin construction on this proposed site you mentioned moments ago. we are at one of the locations north of the park and a lot of people still trying to even get out of the park. we did see video of protesters clashing with construction crews and police over the night. video was provided to us from a reporter on scene, giving us details about what was going on. that showed photos and videos of protesters arriving well after construction crews showed up.

they started putting up high fences, closing of the park, and it appears as though they moved in without her knowledge, without the opposition's knowledge to get construction started right away. when i got here moments ago, i saw an ample amount of people dressed up in riot gear, police dressed up in riot gear, roaming the park. i did not see protesters recently, but what we did here is that there were some clashes moments ago. it does construction crews came in after midnight to start the barricades and start the perimeter surrounding the park. that is shortly after when protesters showed up. we will be here all morning, so if we learn anything new, we will keep you posted. ryan curry, abc 7 news. reggie: nancy pelosi is on her way to seoul after a controversial visit to taiwan, praising the leaders and their values of self-government.

when speaker pelosi visited south korea today, she will meet with high-ranking members of the government. the president will not be there. he is on vacation. kumasi: a san francisco school board voted to admonish a one member for racist comments made recently. tim johns was at the meeting, where tensions turned to chaos. tim: the san francisco school board meeting descending into chaos tuesday night. the board held a special meeting where they unanimously voted to admonish one commissioner. during the public comment portion, audience members began fighting with each other and it had to be recessed for an amount of time. she came under controversy after statements she made in the black and brown communities overlearning. >> i misspoke.

in doing so, i said things that unintentionally perpetuated harmful stereotypes. tim: she apologized following the uproar and at tuesday's meeting. >> not enough. tim: reverend townsend is the vice president of the san francisco chapter of the naacp, calling on her to resign immediately. thompson points to a recalled board member who also faced criticism for comments. >> if those comments hurt asian children, what do these words due to black and brown children? tim: his frustration also shared by others, and many people came to say they thought ann hsu has no place on the board. >> we do love our babies and value education, we do believe in black and latinx excellence. tim: but not everyone felt that way. dozens of turned out in support of hsu, saying her comments were taken out of context. >> we need someone better. we need ann hsu to speak.

kumasi: a suspect accused of kidnapping a baby boy inside his grandmother's home was in court. the baby is six months old. baby brandon was taken april and found unhurt within a day. the kidnapper pleaded guilty and avoided the maximum sentence. josé portillo faces up to five years, he was believed to be in a romantic relationship with ramirez. >> our belief is that she was going to kidnap brandon to raise him, essentially, as her own and kidnap him permanently and keep him from his family. kumasi: ramirez faces up to 14 years in prison. they will be sentenced october 28. reggie: nearly every bay area celebrated national night out, a law-enforcement event. people came out to get to know their first responders and neighbors in fremont. children could check out police vehicles, to photos with the crime dog, and have a conversation with officers. >> you get to meet the police,

east bay, a housing battle near uc berkeley is heating up. construction equipment surrounds people's park. the city of berkeley and the university planned to create new student housing there. ryan curry is live with what has been happening overnight. ryan: good morning. we are now seeing protesters clashing with police near the side of the construction here. they have been here most of the morning, and now there are tense moments met with them versus the police right now. this is a highly contested issue going on in the bay area. this site has a lot of history and has recently been used to house a lot of the homeless in and around berkeley. we know that is planning to change, so our knowledge, construction crews moved in overnight without the opposition knowing about it, meaning those that oppose the plan did not know they were going to be here building right away, yet, here we are.

we were able to get video from a work we said reporter who was on scene after midnight till 1:00 a.m. when crews started putting up defenses and barricades. shortly after that, we noticed protesters arrived. that is why we see a lot of police here clashing with protesters. mostly right now we have not seen major altercations. we are not aware of any arrests, but we are seeing a heavy police presence from berkeley meeting with a few protesters who are on the other side of the barricade. while this is happening, there are construction crews in the park'neath really high fences that seem to be already working to make way for construction to begin a new housing. about the homeless in the area, work we have a plan for them. they will relocate them to a nearby shelter to get them into housing with the plan to hopefully get them into permanent housing. this has been a tense moment. that is why we are still seeing protesters here and why we are

seeing an incredibly long line of police as this continues to unfold. we will keep you posted. it seems this is a tense situation as construction is happening with protesters in the area. ryan curry, abc 7 news. kumasi: turning to the spread of monkeypox. the san francisco public health department says more than 10,000 vaccine doses are coming to the city. it is unclear when they will be available, but it is more than double what they received in previous allotments. six hundred 50 doses were administered yesterday at zuckerberg san francisco general. it will be open again at 8:00 this morning for walk-ins until noon or it gives out the rest of what it has. this is coming as california's second pediatric case of monkeypox has been confirmed in long beach. abc 7's j.r. stone dug into what information parents need to know. >> covid-19 is a much bigger threat. j.r.: dr. winslow reassuring those concerned about monkeypox

as cases arise and no word of california's second pediatric monkeypox case in long beach, the fifth pediatric case nationwide. >> under the age of 18. they were a close contact somebody else who had monkeypox. and they are recovering, and doing well. j.r.: dr. davis is the health officer in long beach. she cannot say much about the pediatric case, but i spoke with her tuesday about how you can catch monkeypox. >> this is a virus, and it is past by having p --assed by having sustained close contact, including intimate contact, so that can include cuddling, kissing, feeding, bathing. a lot of things that children, you know, do with their family members. >> monkeypox is pretty much transmitted exclusively by close interpersonal contact, so skin

to skin contact or mucous membrane mucous membrane contact. j.r.: data shows men who have sex with men have made up a majority of monkeypox cases nationwide. now, a small number of women and children have become infected. dr. davis says that while sharing bedding or towels with someone with monkeypox blisters could be a danger, trying on back-to-school clothing is low risk. dr. winslow says parents should certainly not panic over news of another pediatric case. >> i have children and grandchildren, and i'm not particularly concerned about them going back to school because of monkeypox. again, i really would like to reassure viewers that, again, their children really are not at particularly high risk for this disease. j.r.: while the monkeypox vaccine is not regularly available for kids, it will be in certain situations where a child has come into contact with monkeypox. j.r. stone, abc 7 news. kumasi: president biden

appointed an official to oversee the nation's monkeypox response. fema official robert fenton was named the monkeypox coordinator. this is coming as more than 6300 cases have been confirmed in the u.s. every state except montana and wyoming have confirmed cases of monkeypox. reggie: and out very -- an outbreak of legionnaires' disease has left several dead-end others hospitalized. it is a type of pneumonia caused by a bacteria that grows in warm water. the county says 12 people have been sickened since july 11. environmental health officials are testing water samples. legionnaires' disease is not transmitted person-to-person. you only get it from freezing and water vapor containing bacteria -- breathing and water vapor containing bacteria. kumasi: nancy pelosi's husband is going to be arraigned on drunk driving charges this

morning, facing charges of causing injury while driving with a blood alcohol level of point 08 or higher. it stems from a two vehicle crash near his home. it will not be clear if pelosi will appear in person. he can be represented by his attorney. reggie: election results are being calculated in five states. in one state, voters gave resounding support for abortion rights. and others, the stage is set for contest in november. jobina: in michigan, the state is set for a race that will be putting a trump backed candidate against the current democrat governor. dixon won the republican primary last night, and is against abortion gained popularity for attvetm's cod there is a lot at stake in this election.
