to do this because the mud, the dust. reggie: and all fairness, what will still be there is the fog. good morning on this thursday, august 4. drew: if you have friends visiting from out of town, tell them early. the little bit warmer compared to this time yesterday. 50's and 60's out there. fog is only limited to the immediate coastline. you can see the fog breaking over twin peaks right now. above that, you have high clouds out there. sunshine, a lot faster this morning for many cities compared to yesterday. hot inland. we go into the 90's. we will take a closer look at these highs and i will say the outside lands forecast coming up in about eight minutes. jobina: developing news now, the search for the shooter who opened fire on a muni bus.

the second killing on a vehicle this summer. police say it happened just before 3:30 p.m. while the buses traveling through the city's sunnydale neighborhood. ryan curry is live at sfpd headquarters with the clues police are working off of this morning. ryan: yes, good morning. the big tool they are not having is determining if they can even access the security cameras on board the bus. that was a big tool that led them to the suspect in the other muni shooting incident on the train in june. now, they are trying to figure out if they have access to that or not. as you mentioned, this incident happened just after 3:00 p.m. yesterday. police say they are searching for somebody who was involved in that shooting that led to two people being injured. one of them did die. they did try to support -- perform cpr but he did later die when he went to the hospital. the other one does have non-life-threatening injuries.

the circumstances that led up to this incident are still very unclear. police say they are worried there might be an -- a random incident. there was the incident back in june. they were able to find the suspect. this is a hostile mama and residents say they are nervous to take muni. >> it is just crazy because i feel like in the pandemic, like things have gotten worse, safety wise. >> oh my god, i do not want to. i do not want to take muni today. i'm so scared. ryan: sfpd did say the overall writing of muni is safe and residents should not be afraid to take it. they did make an arrest in that castro muni incident this summer but again, that train did have working cameras. we have moments they would send out images that helped identify the suspect. they are unsure if they can do

berkeley's people's park has been stopped at least the weekend after protesters clash with police in riot gear. the park is owned by uc berkeley which has plans to build housing for 1100 students and 125 formally on house people. there will also be a revitalized park. crews moved in after midnight yesterday, putting up fencing and clearing out people staying inside the park. throughout the morning, protesters gathered, trying to stop the work. uc berkeley officials say some equipment was damaged and several arrests were made. protesters say they are standing in support of the community. >> as climate change activists, it is painful to see a park built by the community for the community being torn down. >> we conducted surveys of the student population and by a 2-1 margin students at uc berkeley support the project here. jobina: uc berkeley says it will assess the situation and decide within the next few days when to restart.

reggie: keeping on our students education is an essential piece of building a better bay area with just days and weeks before school is back in session, the cdc is expected to update its covid-19 guidance in schools. cnn reports the changes include eliminating the five day quarantine period for unvaccinated people who are exposed to the virus. instead, they will be able to go out with a mask and test themselves five days after exposure. those with symptoms should continue to isolate. the changes are still being discussed and are not final. jobina: more we are working on for you at 6:00, a potential turning point in finding -- fighting the mckinney fire. and a rare disease in the bay area now turning deadly. the local outbreak traced to a single hotel. and, sharks on the move in

jobina: new developments on the mckinney fire. it is now 10% contained. it started last friday and this is the first report of any containment. cooler, cloudy conditions are helping crews. they say they stop the spread of the fire towards the city of

reggie: an outbreak of legionnaires' disease has been tracked to specifically , a cooling tower in the city of napa. one person has died in the outbreak. the cooling tower has been cleaned and taken off-line. the investigation is still ongoing. >> finding it in one water sample is just a piece of the puzzle in the ongoing investigation as it is common to find more than one source. reggie: we reached out to both embassy suites and its owner hilton and have not heard back. if you have questions about legionnaires' disease, we have everything you need to know on our website. jobina: a richmond police officer has been fired for excessive force.

some of the video you are about to see is disturbing. video shows a confrontation back on april 9. after taking the suspect, smith hits the man with his taser more than 30 times. smith was trying to arrest the man after he ran away from a traffic stop earlier in the night. richmond's police chief offered an apology. >> i want to apologize to the individual that was involved in this incident as well as the community at large. officer smith's actions are unacceptable. jobina: smith has been on administered of leave since the incident. he is also facing a felony charge for assault with a deadly weapon. reggie: a new study finds the great white shark population is on the rise in monterey bay. researchers have tracked great whites over the last two decades. they say the sharks are adapting and thriving in the warming waters caused by climate change. the warmer water has opened a 400 mile swim corridor along the

coast from santa barbara to monterey bay. researchers also say it has created the perfect environment for a shark nursery near the santa cruz coast. jobina: i always love these kind of stories. a family brought to tears after their dog was stolen and found five years later. this is the german shepherd. the maelstrom family says they had no idea how their beloved dog ended up more than 600 miles away in baytown, texas, but they are so happy she is ok. an animal control officer says he spotted sheba on the street. >> we were all crying. me and my girls. we had steak night once a week and that cooks the best steaks. we already have steak night planned for when she gets home. jobina: the animal control

mariah carey is live sfpd headquarters while the search goes on. ryan: that is what they are trying to figure out what led up to the incident going ahead for the shooting. the second one we have seen this summer. the first one being on the train headed toward castro station back in june and now this one on the bus in the sunnydale neighborhood that left someone dead and another one injured. police say this happened just after 3:00 in the afternoon on that muni bus. the circumstances that led up to this, still very unclear. one of the victims received cpr from first responders. got transported to a hospital where he later died. the other one injured with nonlife threatening injuries. the second shooting this summer. there was an incident near castro station. police were able to locate that suspect but with this moment not happening again, residents now say they are nervous to take muni. >> filled with crazy passengers and all the stuff.

last time i went, some dude was putting her feet he all over the windows. >> these do appear to be random incidents. neither them focused on muni passengers but rather random incidents that happened in or around muni. ryan: the main focus as they try to figure out what happened is determining if the cameras on board the train or bus were working during that time. the incident back in june had cameras working on the muni train and police were able to locate that suspect and later arrest that person. they are unsure if the cameras were working on the bus this time. muni says they do have cameras throughout their entire system but police did not say whether or not they believed they were working. we are hoping to find that information out later today. reggie: this morning, bart police are investigating a stabbing that happened on a train at the south hayward

station around 8:00 last night. police say there was an altercation and one man was stabbed. officers have not made an arrest. jobina: san jose police will update us on the investigation into a series of air-powered rifle attacks. a man was arrested yesterday accused of shooting at least seven women and girls. some of the victims faced life-threatening injuries. two of the victims share the same near-death experience. both shot in the back with an air-powered rifle just two days apart. the pellets coming within millimeters from their hearts. >> brought a lot of relief knowing he has behind bars and cannot hurt anyone else because he has already hurt way too many people. >> i'm just really glad the guy was caught. i think i feel a lot safer now. >> all of the shootings happened in south san jose and campbell. police are asking for any other victims to come forward. reggie: new fallout from the vote to uphold abortion rights in kansas.

it is having applications across the country. democrats are praising the move saying the outcome suggest the threat to abortion rights has energized voters and are hoping it carries over to the november election, possibly giving democrats momentum in congressional races. one senator is convinced voters will have other things on their minds by fall. >> i think voters will be very focused on the cost of gasoline and groceries and rents. that is all i hear about. my whole life has been about protecting the lives of moms and babies and i think this was a step away from that. nevertheless, i respect the process. reggie: for more states are preparing to vote on abortion rights including right here in california, kentucky and vermont after president biden signed an executive order for medicaid to help women seeking abortions to travel between states to obtain access to the procedure. jobina: governor newsom is urging hollywood to stop filming

in states that restrict abortions. his campaign for reelection took out a full-page ad in variety and called on the tv and film industry to leave states that impose new restrictions and bring the business back to california. the bill endorsed by governor newsom would provide $330 million a year in financial support for content creators through 2030. happening today, a risk -- a russian court is in recess. the verdict expected in about one hour with brittney griner's drug smuggling trial. closing arguments wrapped up and the court is in recess. a little while ago, she spoke to the court apologizing to the wnba, her teammates, friends and spouse for her mistake. she again stated that she did not intend on bringing any -- breaking any russian laws or committing a crime. she has pleaded guilty to drug charges for having bait cartridges with cannabis oil at the moscow airport. prosecutors asked for her to be sentenced to 9.5 years in

both directions of highway one at 17 are closed down due to this fatal accident that happened overnight. we do have video from last night with emergency crews on the scene. a mother and daughter were crossing not at a crosswalk, an illegal crossing and here is our video from last night. unfortunately, they were hit. they went to the hospital. the mother did succumb to her injuries. the daughter is in critical condition. once again, this is highway one at highway 17. they did say about 40 minutes ago that they were getting ready to clear this accident. but they have not done so yet so they are in the final clear up stages. back with

visit to taiwan. today, she is planning to visit the joint security area near the border between north and south korea earlier, she met her south korean counterpart vowing to support efforts to denuclearize the north. the pair released a joint statement expressing concerns over north korea's evolving nuclear and missile threats. >> when we talk about security, we know what that is. when we talk about economics, that is clear. when we talk about governance, it is many things. it is shared values, it is about fighting the pandemic. it is about saving the planet. so many things to discuss, so much opportunity. better served by our discussion in an interparliamentary way. reggie: policy arrived yesterday following a brief stop in taiwan. today, china says it launched multiple missiles and its largest ever military drills in the taiwan strait a day after pelosi's visit. it is the first time china has fired weapons in the area near taiwan since 1996.
