the central valley, from sacramento, even fresno this morning. it is monsoonal moisture to california. we do expect showers to stay out of every and, but we will have some high clouds are streaming in from time. temperatures right now, it is warm compared to this time yesterday. low and mid 60's is what we are waking up to. later today it will be a cooler afternoon to finish out the week. a live look outside. here is our exploratorium camera. we have a lot of cloud cover upstairs. we will see fog this morning. we will have partly cloudy skies throughout the day and later today there is a cooler afternoon inland. sitting in the 80's for the most part. we will take a closer look at these highs, reviewed the outside forecast, and show you that -- outside lands forecast. reggie: now to a development at a recently closed oakland school. people opposed to the closure have been staging a sitting since may, protesters tell abc 7 news they were forcefully

evicted, and shared cellphone video of a heated moment. here is abc 7 news anchor dan ashley. >> why don't you wait for the team -- you wait for opd to get here? you don't have the power to arrest people. dan: tensions reaching a boiling point at a school that permanently closed after this past school year. oakland councilmember karen 5, 1 of the people who showed up to the scene. >> i witnessed a melee. i witnessed people getting roughed up. dan: parents and other members of the community have been staging a protest at parker elementary school since may. on thursday their attempt to stand their ground turned into a clash with people they say were oakland unified security. >> stop brutalizing him. dan: we had people forcefully getting hurt and abused on this site. dan: protesters telling abc news several people were bloodied and bruised. >> i don't know who authorized this as the school board is out of session. dan: john sasaki, telling abc

news staff found the school empty thursday, so crews changed the locks and set the alarm. he says a short time later someone broke through a law get back in. >> i also have a call into the superintendent, and i morning to hear from them on what exactly happened today and who made the call for this forced to come out here. to engage with people the way they did. dan: the group claims they were told district staff were only coming to remove items to be taken to other schools. after sending out a text watching for root -- asking for reinforcements, the group made their way inside once again, and they say the fight is far from over. >> closing schools is harming our children even more. dan: dan ashley, abc 7 news. reggie: parker elementary is one of seven schools planned to close. four others are set to merge. oakland police were called to the school, and it is unclear if anyone was arrested. >> in berkeley the housing

construction project earlier this week is now on hold. the university suspended work in the wake of that protest. it resulted in seven arrests. two officers were hurt and some equipment was vandalized. cal says it will assess the situation and decide when to restart construction. the project includes housing for 1100 students and 100 25 people currently experiencing homelessness. the university says the existing park, bordered by hayes street and white way, will be revitalized. reggie: new developments in this week's deadly shooting on a muni bus. this was targeted. one person was killed, another heard from that shooting in the sunnydale neighborhood. transit officials have shared security video with police as well as cameras on nearby streets. still, no word on a suspect. there will be hiring 20 transit ambassadors to monitor city trains and buses. >> developing news out of las

vegas. one person is that after a shooting outside a hotel room in the mirage hotel. the call came in around 8:30 last night. detectives say it initially appeared there was some sort of fight between a total of four people who all knew each other, and a suspect began shooting. three people were found shot. two women were in the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, and the middle-aged man died at the scene. the suspect was arrested within six hours of the shooting. reggie: in minnesota shoppers at the mall of america were sent running after shots were fired yesterday afternoon. police say the gunshots were fired near the nike store, but luckily officers were on the scene within seconds. however, the police says the suspect ran away and has not been found. jobina: now to the latest on the monkeypox outbreak. u.s. is declaring a national health emergency cases rise across the country. it is intended to free up additional resources for vaccines, treatments, and tracking.

more than 71 hundred americans have been infected with monkeypox in at least 48 states. >> with cases doubling roughly every week it is paramount that the government prepare a health care system to meet vaccine and testing demands so that americans can remain safe. jobina: the fda says it is looking into whether it can stretch national vaccine supply by pulling five effective doses out about vile without sacrificing safety. nearly all the cases have been among men who have sex with men, but doctors stress anyone can get the virus. five u.s. children have been infected. san francisco health officials say they are waiting for 11,000 doses of the vaccine to arrive. this is video our crew filmed earlier this week of the lines outside the clinic at zuckerberg san francisco general hospital. due to lack of supply a monkeypox clinic at the hospital is still closed to walk-ins

today. you must have an appointment. now the popular gemini daytime dance party in san francisco says it is canceling this months event due to monkeypox concerns. reggie: this morning, research from the cdc on covid. so-called long covid in children can later develop into harsh health conditions like heart issues and blood clots. research showed the most common post-covert condition in kids and teens were blood clots, heart problems, and higher risk of kidney failure or diabetes. it is similar to adult long covid symptoms, but kids are less at risk for ongoing respiratory issues. the cdc describes long covid as health problems that stick around at least a month after getting the virus. jobina: we are hours away from the return of san francisco's biggest music festival. outside lands is back at golden gate park today. 220,000 people are expected to attend the three-day event. gates open at 11:00 this

morning. security is tight, and there is a new concern the ship. ryan curry is live at the park with what you need to know. ryan: good morning. it is good to see this event back at its original date and time slot here in august. last time we saw this thing happen in october due to a pandemic postponement. that was a fun event, but it is good to see this thing operating as close to normal as it possibly can. maybe even what it was in the pre-pandemic days. last time we spoke there were a lot of cautions in place for this event. max -- masks were required in certain areas and people had to provide vaccination. that is no longer the case. yesterday we saw crews putting up the stages, boots, and other attractions. this is always a huge boost to the local economy. you mentioned a large -- large crowd, possibly generating $70

million for the area. we know covid is spreading and how contagious it is, and there is also that new virus as well. but there are varying levels of transition between the two viruses, but still, a safe message from officials. >> we want to make sure that people are safe in this environment just be mindful, and if you do not feel good, do not come. ryan: that is the main message from the city. as we have been hearing from -- about what to do if you are not feeling well. we know this variant can spread quickly. it is safe enough to have this event in its usual time slot in august, no matter how fast this disease spreads and how high the vaccination rate is for this. for a lot of people in the city, it is a pretty exciting time to see this big event back at his usual time slot here at golden gate park. we are live in san francisco, ryan curry, abc 7 news. reggie: thank you.

reggie: this morning president biden is celebrating a breakthrough for the reflation and that -- inflation reduction act. he is valid it will not raise taxes on those making less than 400,000 dollars, a campaign promise. >>'s morning a significant step forward for president joe biden's domestic agenda. democrats now planning to vote on a bill representing the largest investment in energy and climate programs in u.s. history. this legislation would only need 50 votes, or all democrats to vote in favor. it comes after a holdout senator, kyrsten sinema, broke silence, off during -- offering

support. the caucus calling it a critical step two in -- to reducing inflation and the cost of living for america's families. the bill would reduce prescription drug costs and health premiums, invest in fighting climate change, impose a new minimum tax on giant corporations, and reduce the deficit by $300 billion. kyrsten sinema says democrats had agreed to remove a key tax policy that targeted the wealthiest americans. sources also tell abc news the agreement that earned kyrsten sinema's support will include a tax on the money companies spend to purchase back their own stock. chuck schumer saying istatement. the final version of the reconciliation bill to be introduced on saturday, will reflect this work and put us one step closer to enacting this historic legislation into law. the final hurdle, democrats need to hear back from the senate parliamentarian, who will decide

whether this bill meets all of the budget requirements to allow democrats to bypass the filibuster and pass legislation along party lines. abc news, washington. reggie: a former movie theater in berkeley could be made into a 15 story department. he closed late last year after 107 years in business. the san francisco business times reports a developer submitted plans to make it a mixed-use building entering to students. the proposal would add 214 housing units with a live theater space. jobina: now to a proud parent moment. a mother-daughter duo pilot team just made history for southwest airlines, flying their first plane together. >> i would like to introduce to you your first officer, a brand-new member of the southwest team of pilots, and my daughter. come on out here. economy boost will be back again. crews were finishing putting up the finishing touches on the stages, booths, and other attractions throughout the park. it is back in its original date. last year they had to move it to the end of october due to a pandemic-related pushback. already we are seeing things kind of look like things were before the pandemic doing signs of a very busy weekend. motels are reporting full or close to full occupancy. and many are traveling from out of town to be here. we know how busy it can be during this event, but it is still a pretty exciting time to be in the city. >> we never even left the house during covid. >> we heard it is all good vibes around. and let's be real, with everything, all of the other concerts and crazy things going on i think this is what we need. just a little peace and love. >> for all of you coming out this weekend, please keep a

state has eliminated traffic fines and dropped fees for all californians. it means more money in your pocket, a law group is concerned some california courts may not be following those new rules. abc 7 i team reporter stephanie sierra has that. reporter: californiac has some of the highest traffic fines and fees in the nation. but a new state law aims to help your wallet. >> punish people extravagantly for traffic violations. just with fines. fines make it a small portion of what people owe. also with a ton of mandatory fees. stephanie: rio sharp is an attorney for the committee for civil rights. he explains it aims to cut down costs, eliminating traffic late fees imposed before july 1 of this year. >> prior to july this was a $300 late fee imposed against nearly anybody who missed a deadline, no matter how small or large their traffic offense was. stephanie: for someone,

jaywalking it is a $35 fine. but if you add all the mandatory court fees it comes down to around $297. it is without missing the deadline. but if you did miss your deadline. >> court would -- courts would add a $300 civil assessment on top of that, more than doubling your balance. stephanie: now, instead of that fee, any late traffic fee will be capped at $100. he says not all courts have adjusted to the new rules, and of misinforming defendants. sonoma county superior court is still advertising a $300 late fee on the website. >> the law has been ineffective for over a month now. it is beyond time these courts get into compliance and stop collecting money they are no longer owed. stephanie: assemblyman phil ting says civil assessment late fees for extract -- were extracting around $100 million in california courts, and impacting the one come families who struggle the most up a ticket debt. >> unfortunately for too long

exclusive interview. her first since the controversy began. she has been the target of backlash for writing responses on a questionnaire referencing the lack of family support for certain ethnic groups. in her sit down with the standard she insisted she is not racist, but reporter han lee, getting answers. here's part of that number station. >> i was asking her what she was really thinking when she wrote down those answers, right? she was saying she was approaching an issue with a very engineering and business way. and -- anne hsu used to work in silicon valley, and she is a successful businesswoman. so, she saw some data in the district. there is a dramatic difference between different ethnic groups of the students about their achievement, about their performance.

so she was thinking there might be some reasons responsible for that, like, housing and security or food insecurity. so she was trying to approach this problem and think about potential solutions. that is why she was writing there might be like a family support to those families. jobina: she told him she has no plans to resign. despite a wave of calls calling for her to step down. anne hsu is an appointed if silget four-year term. new d and the murder case of alexis gabeth woman who went missing in january and is believed to have been killed gave's family maintained she may still be alive, but now new evidence is forcing them to reconsider. her parents were shown video of

the ex-boyfriend taking three garbage bags to his mother's house, the police also found traces of blood. >> because he was unloading garbage bags that seemed pretty heavy to us. and seeing more than one back, what is that supposed to mean? does that mean she is in pieces? jobina: my goodness. the family is waiting for an -- for a dna analysis on the blood, and police continue to search the town of pioneer. that is where they believe jones dumped the garbage bags. reggie: wnba players are standing in solidarity with brittney griner. she was sentenced to nine years in prison for carrying cannabis oil in her luggage through a russian airport. before the phoenix mercury game players held a moment of silence for 42 seconds. that is the number of greiner's jersey.
