people's park. they will be allowed to put up a fence. they want to redevelop a portion of the park for students and people experiencing homelessness. protests over the plan ended with dramatic clashes between people and police officers. sent people were arrested and two officers were hurt. u.c. berkeley adding while this will add delay and additional cost to the project, we are pleased that the court agreed to an expedited process. dan a.: yesterday, a clash broke out at parkland elementary between activists and district officials. community members have been occupying this school in an effort to keep it from being closed. we learned that parents are calling on the district to investigate. >> you are not in the power to arrest people. >> reporter: parents occupying parker elementary captured the moment that o.s.d. security

guards attempted to clear out the school. >> stop brutalizing him. >> that is a hostage situation. no one would know unless you're seeing it with five, six big guys around him. that is terrible. this is a school. this is a school. two mothers and some parents and community members are trying to keep open. >> reporter: one of the parents on campus for the past two months to protest the school's closure. thursday night's incident is the first confrontation between community members and the district. >> let us go. >> sorry, if i'm not too loud. my chest still hurts. i was held against my will, handcuffed against my will. >> reporter: in a written statement to abc7news, the school district said that everyone left the school, the staff changed the locks and set the alarm. somehow, people got back in. parker k-8 school has been

closed. they continue to trespass. we continue to demand they find other ways to safely and peacefully compress their concerns. >> this is not trespassing. this is a community building. everyone you see standing around here, this is what it is inthe ended for. let's be clear, osc says closing school, they are replacing them with charter schools. >> reporter: community activists refuter the claims on what happened on thursday and the district is closing schools to cut costs. they argue that the district has money, especially with surplus funding from the state. the district is calling on the state to investigate. >> i think it is critical that we call out the board members who have not spoken out against what happened yesterday. >> abc7news. ama: city college reopened its mission campus. this comes as the school

struggles with enrollment numbers. lena explains what is being done to bring the campus back to life. >> this is a special day. i would like to call it august 5, mission day. lena: free tuition to all san francisco residents. the mission center opens up recess for those in arrest around the mission district instead of traveling across town to their main campus. >> this is what we need and there is nothing, nothing better that you can give to a community than education. because the future is ours. lena: but the campus faces an uphill battle. before the pandemic, they had around 8,000 registered students compared to today with just 300. something interim dean of students jorge bell blames the pandemic on. >> the fact that we closed the doors for two and a half years,

the pandemic, and then prior to that, i think the enrollment has been going down in california. lena: because of that, the founding dean says there were dozen of teachers layed off. >> in order to balance the budget, there was a layoff of teachers, you don't have teachers, you don't have classes, et cetera. >> reporter: a trustee says a majority of his peers weren't willing to adapt to the digital atmosphere. >> having to adapt to the technology, having to adapt to not being hands on took a long time to do. i know a lot of students felt that wasn't their approach, so they took a step back and focused on life and not school. lena: the campus is ramping up recruitment and marketing efforts, including dual enrollment to high schoolers to fill their classrooms up once again. >> the focus is to bring those students back to make sure they

know the campus is open. lena: in san francisco, lenna how land, abc7news. dan a.: new developments between elon musk and twitter. the legal saga heating up with lawsuits, counterlawsuits, subpoenas. musk and twitter are scheduled to face off in an october trial to determine if musk is legally able to walk away from the deal to buy the san francisco-based company for $44 billion. twitter sued to force the agreement. musk has filed counterclaims accusing twitter of trying to distract from what he calls its many misrepresentations. ama: new numbers today shows that the u.s. job market surpassed expectations as americans cope with the cost of living increases. as justin finch tells us, senate democrats are moving forward with a measure they say will

ama: a tragic day on highway 92 today. two fatal crashes resulting in the death of three people. the first took place in the westbound lanes off of the san mateo bridge. two women were killed when their ford severed off of the road. a third woman in the car suffered major injuries. dan a.: the second accident took place minutes later on the east side of the freeway. a person was killed in a crash involving five vehicles where it merges with northbound interstate 880. authorities have yet to release any information about the person killed in that crash. ama: happening now, it is day one of outside lands in san francisco's golden gate park. this is a live look from sky7. the three-day music festival include big headliners like post malone and green day. 220,000 people are expected to
