>> we're going to learn how to do this. >> whit's been doing it for years, i heard. >> unintentionally. >> stick around, we'll all learn together. good morning, america. we are following a lot of news on this saturday morning including that summer scorcher. coast to coast, millions of americans waking up under heat advisories as hard-hit kentucky braces for more storms. our weather team tracking the very latest. but we do start this hour with that rise in monkeypox cases. the u.s. declaring a public health emergency as confirmed cases surpass 7,000. >> now growing questions about the response and access to the vaccine. abc's mola lenghi is back with more. mola, good morning, again. >> reporter: well, good morning, janai. this is one of just two vaccine sites here in manhattan. that's despite demand for the vaccine far outpacing supply and the biden administration just days ago declaring this a public health emergency. the fda now looking for ways to stretch its current supply and more than a month after the country's first case of monkeypox, cases are now topping 7,000 throughout the country.

the cdc says nearly 1.7 million people in the u.s. are now eligible for the vaccine. now, so far about 600,000 doses have gone out nationwide with 1.1 million total expected in the coming weeks. still, guys, that is not enough. so now the fda looking at a new approach that could potentially lead to a fivefold increase in the u.s. supply of the vaccine. basically they would give doses in smaller, shallower injections under the skin allowing up to five doses per vial. it's a strategy that still needs to be tested in clinical trials in a process that could take weeks, if not months. but experts saying the studies at this point are looking promising. now, the federal government hoping to deliver nearly 7 million doses of vaccine by may of 2023 and while the cdc says the outbreak is currently concentrated in gay and bisexual community among men, they say ultimately

everyone is at risk. eva? >> something that could spread to anyone. mola lenghi, thank you so much. now to the fda approving a breast cancer treatment that could affect nearly half of all patients. it's the first targeting a major subcategory of breast cancer that most patients don't even know exists. breast cancer surgeon dr. kristi funk joins us with more. thanks for being with us this morning, doctor. >> good morning, eva. good to be here. >> so let's start, just break it down for us, is this therapy a game changer? >> it absolutely is. so it's called enhertu. the first ever fda medicine with her2 breast cancer.atients- what's that? a very new subtype of breast cancer. 50% of all invasive cancers fall into that.

her2 is a receptor that sits on the outside of cancer cells and causes them to grow. 15% to 20% of breast cancer patients have an abundance of these receptors. they're her2 positive and usually treated with chemo and the drug herceptin. 60% of those do have an appreciable number but not enough to be her2-positive. these are the her2 lows and the drug herceptin doesn't work in them. all these can benefit from enhertu. it's the newly proven antibody chemo drug. it prolongs life and makes it harder for disease to progress in stage 4 her2 lows. this is a highly effective option for all metastatic patients about to find out they're her2-low and not her2-negative. >> for those diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, should they be looking into this? >> absolutely. so all you need to do, you can find out with your doctor but you can look at your pathology report. you want to look at the

services too. this morning, "batgirl" defeated. >> why so serious? >> reporter: the bombshell decision to cancel the film's release putting a spotlight on a coming merger between streaming giants hbo max and discovery plus into a single streaming platform. this as streaming services experience massive subscriber nosedives. netflix says it lost nearly a million subscribers in its last earnings report. those losses raising questions about whether films like "batgirl" can turn a profit on the big screen or on streaming. >> i don't think that any company is healthy enough to want to flush that much money, you know, down the drain. $90 million is significant. that project was significant. >> reporter: "batgirl" had a $90 million budget and would have seen michael keaton back as the caped crusader on hbo max. execs saying the installation into the batman universe, simply

did not work. fans freaking out. >> i feel like throwing away a movie you've pretty much made was the dumbest decision possible. >> reporter: "batgirl" the latest in a series of big budget cancellations at hbo max including the $40 million animated "scoob: holiday haunt." warner brothers saying in a statement, the decision to not release "batgirl" reflects our strategic shift as it relates to the dc universe and hbo max. six more movies quietly removed sparking fears that there's more downsizing to come. >> i think it's just going to kind of come down to what consumers want, what's the market actually saying and i think right now the market is probably saying not everybody needs a streaming app. >> reporter: the drastic for the streaming industry tloo- overall. more beat up than ever. that massive merger between warner brothers and discovery is expected to be effective summer of 2023. meanwhile, "batgirl" herself, leslie grace, weighing in on instagram saying to every batgirl fan, thank you for allowing me to take on the cape and become my own hero.

"gma" kicking off dogust all week long, celebrating the work of shelters all over the country, helping more than 80 pups find their forever homes. and this morning the history-making rescue of thousands of beagles and the search to find each one a family. take a look. it's the historic dog rescue operation that's given nearly 4,000 beagles a new leash on life. the humane society of the united states taking on its biggest undertaking yet, rescuing thousands of hungry, sick and mistreated dogs that were bound for animal testing labs. >> right now we mobilized about half of those. they're on their way to shelters. some have already been adopted to forever homes. others are at our care and rehab center.

>> reporter: this transfer plan comes as a result of a may lawsuit filed by the department of justice against invigo, a pharmaceutical and biotech company alleging animal welfare act violations at the facility. in a settlement with the doj last month invigo did not admit wrongdoing but closed one of its facilities. >> oh, boy. >> reporter: the humane society of the united states leading the charge. miguel, the chief animal rescue care and sanctuary officer, saye >> ultimately 4,000 beagles is a very large number to wrap your head around and we couldn't do this work alon. we're fortunate to have a very large network of financial partners. those are some of your local humane societies you may know. >> reporter: the nonprofit wasting no time coordinating doggie transports starting in mid-july finding shelters across the country who could make space and help find forever homes.

>> it's been 15 years since "the sopranos" finale. the series found this whole new audience during the pandemic. why do you think it resonates with people so much? >> i think, number one, it's really a well done show, really well written and well acted and great filmmaking and i think there's something about the loyalty of these characters and the kind of familial feeling that people find appealing somehow like this group that's unto themselves and kind of looks out for each other until they don't and then -- [ laughter ] but i guess there's a lot of humor and somehow we've made these, you know, really dark people relatable, you know, these people who live in this dark world and made it somehow relatable. >> i want to know what was it like for you watching that little clip? >> oh, it's hard, you know. you know, jim was one of my best friends, you know, and he's not

[ laughter ] and so i'm trying to, you know, i really believe in this cause. minister payne is a social justice warrior. he is all in and he will lie, he will steal, he will beg, he will cheat to keep this program going. it's not for himself. he'll live, you know, in a van if he has to, but he believes in this cause and he will keep it going by any means necessary, often very dishonest means. >> oh. >> fascinating. we can't let you leave without talking about "the white lotus." the emmy-nominated fan favorite in the second season.

♪ ♪ i was just laughing because it looked like a crayon box. welcome back. we're going glam with a trend that's taking tiktok by storm. invisible eyeliner, an easy way to get the liner look without all the fuss. celebrity makeup artist neil scibelli joins us to show you how it's done. first question what is invisible eyeliner? >> this trend has been blowing up all over tiktok. it's a way to create an illusion that you're wearing an eyeliner

without actually having to apply any at all and uses concealer to stencil out your shape of what you would want it to look like but natural eyelid color is what acts as the eyeliner. >> very natural kind of glam. this is ariana, one of our incredible interns with us this summer. she has one of her eyes done. show us how you do it. >> you need a few quick products. first to start, you want to use a flat angled eye brush. i love this by real techniques from their everyday eyewear set and it's really great for creating that lifted angled shape around the eye. and what you would use as a concealer, you want one that doesn't budge or smudge, that's going to wear all day and want to create this sort of cat eye shape around the eye. and i love this one here by rosen because it literally stays on all day, super long wear and we've carved out a stencil on where we would want her eyeliner to be and it's just right in this area here. you can go as thin or thick as you want it. it doesn't have to be a wing.

then you use another brush, like a fluffier brush and blend above it to highlight that entire area so it opens up the eye and gives this lifted look while your natural eye color -- your lid color peeks out from the lower part of the lid. and to make it really pop i always love traveling with pointed q-tips. if you use garnier's micellar water, it cleans up the look and brings out that natural liner as well. >> does it have to be perfect? it's kind of that shadow. >> exactly. >> next up we have courtney. courtney writes our trivia questions in case you were wondering. how are you going to level up her look? >> for those who do like a little bit more of a pop of color, we actually went with an eye shadow below the concealer here and we used this one by makeup by mario. great neutral brown, you can use it right along the lid and then you want to use your concealer

technique right around it in the same way that we did the first and this is a great way for someone to go from day to night or if you're looking for more definition around the eyes without it being too much. >> also if you're not good at drawing an eyeliner. >> exactly. if you're not good at drawing a liner, doing the shadow first makes it easier to sort of place the liner around the eye. then this concealer gives a really lifted look to the eyes, as well. >> i like the whole thing that we're doing with concealer to give you that face-lift look. >> yeah, it's actually a technique makeup artists have been doing for awhile too. once an eye look is done you can always use a little concealer right on the edges of the eyes to give it that more sort of lifted finished look. >> and the best part about this, it takes very few things and easy to do which a lot of makeup can be difficult. so lastly, we have got kayla here, another incredible intern. if you want something a little different you've got an idea for a look that's minimalist in a
