joining us, i'm dion lin. a sweeping economic package backed by democrats. as we take a look at the nation's capital where senate democrats debated the bill saying lit bring down inflation and save us money. opponents of the plan say it won't work. reporter: senate majority leader chuck schumer did not speculate on when the senate might pass the bill. but called the legislation a very big deal. >> the american people are going to learn an unmistakable truth about this proposal. it was written first and foremost with the american people in mind. it reduces inflation. it lowers their costs. and it fights climate change. >> saturday's voting comes after arizona senator kirsten cinema announced she's ready to move forward after the party leaders agree to scale back some of their tax proposals.

the bill which democrats are calling the inflation reduction act would be the largest investment in fighting climate change and aims to lower healthcare premiums and prescription cost and would be paid for on raising taxes. president biden believes the bill bring down inflation and save americans money. the republicans disagree. >> the democrat's bill will do nothing. hundreds of billions of dollars on tax hikes on a struggling economy will help kill american jobs. >> if passed, the bill will give democrats another major legislative victory ahead of november's mid terms. the president is already touting friday's jobs report showing the economy added 528,000 jobs doubling wall street's expectation. >> today there are more people working in america than before the pandemic began. in fact, there are more people working in america at any point in american history. >> still inflation is at a 4

40-year high. the fed is looking to control inflation without tip the u.s. into a recession but finding that perfect ba insurance difficult. dion: no one was shot but police officers from san francisco's mission station discharged their weapons while pursuing a suspect this morning. investigators say they returned fire when a man in his 50's fled on foot and shot at officers. it happened just before 8:00 between 16th and 17th streets. the suspect hid behind a vehicle and continue to shoot at officers. members of the department's tactical unit help to take the suspect into custody. >> based on the behavior and what he was engaged in, there will be criminal charges. but at this point, we are several hours out from figuring out what they actually are. >> the suspect was take on the the hospital with minor injuries. police have not revealed what let up to the pursuit. a town hal meet willing be

discussed within 10 days. four people in oakland were shot. one shot during a three-hour span. a 35 year-old pittsburgh man died after a drive bi-shooting. it -- drive-by shooting. reports that a man and woman from berkley were injured in that shooting. they are expected to be ok. now, about three hours earlier and just a few blocks away, officers heard gunfire and found a man shot at 14th and web center. he was critically wounded. investigators say the shootings are not connected. >> a 17 year-old boy died in a crash during a pursuit in vallejo. just before 1:00 a.m. yesterday morning, the california highway patrol says they tried to pull over the driver of a speeding chevrolet pickup. that driver refused to stop and a chase began that truck then eventually crashed. officers say the boy who was driving was not wearing a seat

nonprofit. her mission to continue helping families. >> we want to keep it going. in antioch, cornell bernard. dion: today, samaritan house gave away about 1,000 backpacks and school supplies. the group will give away 2,000 more as the start of the school year approaches. the c.e.o. says this year the supplies are especially needed. >> the cost of food, the cost of gas, the cost of rent is just tearing them apart. and what we're able to do here today is give out 3500 backpacks full of age appropriate school supplies so that these kids can start school ready to learn and feeling great about themselves. dion: samaritan house held today's giveaway at the san mateo give away center. each backpack is build the spiral notebooks, espn sills and crayons for the younger kids and

much more. moving on to developing news on the largest wildfire burning in california. the so-called mckinney wildfire near the oregon board sore now 30% contained. four deaths are being blamed on the fire. crews say dangerous weather conditions over the next couple of days could make their job a whole lot harder. flames have scorched nearly 94 square miles since the fire began seven days ago. more than 7300 people are under evacuation orders or warnings. and not far from the mckinney fire, a cluster of wildfires is burning between the communities of sayed and happy camp. it's being called the yety fire. the lightening sparked fire started tuesday and has shut down a portion of highway 96. flames have burned more than 12 square miles and there is zero containment. evacuation orders are in place with 336 structures being threatened. notice a change at the gas station. a new price trend at the pump

dion: a rare piece of the apple computer that started it all is up for auction this month. this is steve job's original prototype for the apple computer known as the apple one. jobs used the prototype as part of the demo that won apple its first big order. >> and this is waz. the reason why it's waz is how tight he was. he used this hand. this hand. and he used to put the sotter on his teeth that's why he made them tight. dion: that's cool to see. it was thought to be lost until recently. it's on display in mountain view this weekend. we have an estimated of $500,000. it's attracted 19 bids. so far the price is more than $7,000. the auction ends on august 18th.
