>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. liz: another mass shooting, multiple people hit in cincinnati, ohio overnight. the suspect nowhere to be found. what we know coming in at this hour. it is sunday, august 7. we will have more on the shooting and what is unfolding now in ohio in a moment, but first let's start with a quick look at the weather with lisa argen. lisa: fog is patchy out there.

you can see the golden gate bridge, where we are socked in, but we are looking at fog around concord. you notice there is not a lot of low clouds. it is 63 in oakland and 59 and half moon bay. look at the south bay here with the clear sky. it is 56 in napa with concord, a little fog. because it is patchy, we have had time to cool off overnight under a clear sky in the north bay. three degrees cooler in the livermore valley. we have a gray sky giving way to mostly sunny skies. by the middle of the day, we will be in the mid 70's in our inland valleys and try have average with only low 80's, maybe mid 80's around the livermore valley, so another cooler than average afternoon. we will bring in a little warmth through the week ahead. liz: at least nine people are injured and another -- in

another mass shooting, this one in downtown cincinnati. gunfire broke out in a large crowd just before 2:00 a.m. local time there. our sister station their reports the total number of injuries still unknown but police say multiple victims are being treated at the university, with the chief saying none now are in critical condition. it appears there is one shooter in all of this. that person fled the scene. we will keep you updated as soon as we learn more. happening now, and hours long saga as taking place on capitol hill. currently a so-called voter rama -- vote-a-rama. this bill makes the single biggest investment in clean energy in the country's history. the funding would primarily be from taxes on the wealthy making

more than $400,000 and from corporations. it locks in a minimum corporate tax rate. support for the bill is split along party lines. >> it is imperative that we show the american people we are capable of representing the needs of ordinary people. >> we are about to increase gas taxes at a time you cannot afford it. liz: democrats need a simple majority for it to pass. we will have more on this coming up in the next half hour. today, a plea for safety and social justice, a crucial part of building a better bay area. organizers, activists, and allies will gather today in washington square park to rally against the continued attacks on asian americans. multiple organizations have come together to demand sustainable and tangible action from city officials. the effort comes in light of the

recent spike in attacks on elder asian americans. last week, a 70-year-old public servant was brutally attacked outside his home on market street. >> they used a fist to hit my head multiple times and then they pulled me down to the ground and kept hitting me. kicking me. liz: horrible. now she is bedridden, fearful to leave her home. organizers set up a fundraiser for security services but say more needs to be done. a research -- a recent report shows a third of asian americans across the country have made changes in their daily lives out of fear of being attacked or targeted. when it comes to issues of race and social justice, abc7news is helping you make a difference in your community. you can check out our list of

resources. education is another key component of building a better bay area. we are focusing on the new school year, which is kicking off in the coming days. oakland unified schools began their first day of school tomorrow ahead of expected cdc changes to covid guidance in classrooms. that will come as soon as this week. school district officials say parents and students can expect the same covid protocols that were in place the end of last school year, including at home testing and masking indoors while on campus. in may, about 20 schools experienced early summer outbreaks. the current rate of inflation is making it hard for just about everybody. some families are struggling to cover the cost of school supplies. how one young woman has spent a decade helping students succeed. >> binders, notebooks,

the footage herself officers told her surveillance video shows a person with glasses and a face mask getting into her vehicle and driving away. she says she is unsure of what to think now but wonders how the carwash made the mistake. >> they did not check for a claim ticket. this should have never happened. >> the error will cost her thousands of dollars. she now has to buy a new car and her insurance will only pay a small amount. >> i was almost done paying off my car and now i have to start over. >> staff tells me none of the employees present at the time i went in where they the day the car was stolen. i left my name and number and she told me a manager would get back to me. for now, she is taking it day by day, trying to one others to be careful to ensure the same thing does not happen to them. >> i do not think i could go to one of those places again, honestly any of those.

i think i'm going to be nervous about it forever. liz: san francisco police have a suspect in custody after they say they got into a morning shootout in the mission district. officers say they returned fire yesterday when a man in his 50's ran from them and shot at officers just before 8:00 in the morning. the suspect hid behind a vehicle and continued to shoot at police. that person was hit by at least one officer and taken to the hospital for minor injuries. police have not revealed what caused the pursuit in the first place. it will be discussed in a town hall meeting in the next 10 days. violence is erupting in the middle east. at least 16 people have been killed in afghanistan. two separate bomb blasts have exploded in the past few days. our reporter spoke with a local a vacuum who says the bombings hit close to home. >> clean up on the streets of

i am worried about them. i will be happy to check on them in america and see them. liz: new developments in death valley. hundreds of guests trapped by flash flooding were able to drive out of the park after cruise -- crews cleared a path through rocks and mud. many roads were critically damaged friday. some 60 cars are buried under debris in death valley. authorities have been conducting searches, looking for stranded vehicles in remote areas. no injuries have been reported. friday was the second wettest day ever for the park with nearly 1.5 inches of rain. dozens of bay area kids are getting big limbs of themselves and their heritage on the big screen. several organizations are teaming up to buy out movie theaters to allow kids to see

the upcoming movie easter sunday starring a comedian and based on his life. one of the free showings was held yesterday in the marina district. among the organizations taking part are the japanese community youth council and west bank filipino multiservice center. what is better than dogs, especially when they are serving -- surfing? tales were wagging and waves crashing. you are looking at the world dog surfing championship. yesterday also had a dog beach fashion competition and food trucks for the humans. canines came from across the country to compete for the top dog awards in different categories and a portion of money raised by the event will go to charity.

i love the one with the gopro. lisa: you have heard of the dog days of summer. we are in that. we have had a stagnant weather pattern. we have been stuck between two weather systems with an area of low pressure to the west and that monsoon moisture to the south and east. you can probably pick them out on this satellite image. you see the twist in the clouds offshore. this has not moved. when the area of high pressure moved a little and brought that moisture toward death valley and part of the sierra nevada had heavy rain, and with this feature now and again we get the stronger northwest wind and that brings up humidity. eventually this will lift and move away. as it does, it will allow a warming trend toward the second half of the upcoming work week in our inland valleys.

there is a look at the fog. it has already moved across. you can see the blanket of low clouds in the south bay, 63 in oakland. low 60's in san jose and there is the great start in the city. 55 in santa rosa with cloudy skies. 63 in concord mso overnight the bulk of the clear sky allowing for temperatures to drop but not with that blanket of low clouds stabilizing and waiting to peel back with sunny skies. you can see the low cloud deck here, so a summertime pattern with near average temperatures through tuesday and a warm up midweek. there is a look at wednesday, where we are seeing 90's. you have to go far out to the delta and upper 80's instead of low 80's for concord.

into the valleys. as we look at the numbers, they are reaching from the upper 50's and it is cloudy and san jose with san francisco in the low 60's, another classic summer view with the sea lions back here. 55 in santa rosa. a great start there with 60 in livermore. it has been clear for the overnight hours and now clouds have allowed for a mostly cloudy start to the day. by 9:00, 10:00, it is a sunny inland. by noon, sunshine is across the bay. and a sunny afternoon for outside land with that fog is still clinging to half moon bay. as we get through the overnight and evening, fog is back. we will pick out the differences with the warm up coming our way for the week ahead. liz: a marathon voting session

on the senate floor. debate all night long on the historic inflation reduction act. this is a live look at the senate floor. they have been working for hours overnight. they are currently in the middle of this. lawmakers are able to consider all possible amendments to a bill. if passed, it would be the largest climate and clean energy investment in u.s. history. several other big items are at stake and christine sloan is following the potential chances this has of passing. >> the senate working around the clock on what is being called to inflation reduction act. it makes the biggest investment in clean energy in the nation's history, allows medicare to negotiate some prescription drug prices, and sets a $2000 annual cap on out-of-pocket drug costs for seniors. it locks in a minimum corporate tax rate of 15%.

farms. she only drives about as far as the next town for groceries or gas. it was puzzling when she got this ticket from 1000 miles away. >> obviously surprised and before old. i thought, how did this happened -- happen? >> it said she had crossed the san mateo bridge and now had to pay the seven dollar toll. >> i have not been to san francisco since probably 40 years ago. it was surprising that i could get a ticket and not even be there. >> at first she thought it was a scheme. she says she has never been on a toll >> bridge in her life. >>i certainly do not know where the san mateo toll bridge is. >> she found the fast-track information was real. why did she get a ticket way up here? she was surprised to hear the

seven dollars only paid for one trip across the bridge. >> i am staying here. >> she lives in a place where there are no tolls, not even a stop sign. >> we have a bridge here. >> her town is 430 residents were no one worries about fines and fees. >> i am sorry you have to live like that. i do not think it is healthy for people. she said at the end of the day she sits by the creek with a fishing pole. now the fast-track ticket was pulling her back in. >> i allegedly went over the bridge at 10:40 a.m. she found our stories about fast-track online and we found out why she got that invoice. fast-track tells us someone else with a washington plate did cross the san mateo bridge that morning.
