chew suffered after he was attacked near his home at third and fo folsom streets. he was kicked in the face and beaten. this morning, police took derrek darby into custody in connection of this attack. >> officers were able to use photos and surveillance to be able to locate and identify the suspect fairly quickly, so we have great officers out there in the field doing good police work. dion: chew is a long-term san francisco resident. he has been booked on felony. charges. the attack on chew prompted the community to mobilize and demand answers about crimes against the community. cornell, these activists are

sending a strong message. cornell: they are, dion. they say enough is enough. they are demanding a meeting with police about better protecting the asian community against brutal beating. activists marched from north beach to chinatown calling for violence to stop. >> people are scared. it seems like open season on the asian american community, especially for the most vulnerable sections of our community. cornell: this week, abc7news was the first to share this disturbing video. mrs. wrenn brutally beaten and kicked in the face as suspects tried to rob her in her own apartment complex. >> they got mad and pulled me down. >> it has been a week and the perpetrators have not been

caught. we're demanding answers from our sfpd and our city officials. >> every time an asian is murdered, i see little response from our officials. cornell: they are tired of waiting for answers. they are demanding that the police chief bill scott hold a town hall on the issue in the next few days. >> this is an emergency and it needs to be treated like one. cornell: police say they are increasing foot patrols and actively searching for the suspects in the beating and robbery of mrs. wrenn. >> we will not stop until we find the suspects and we will not give up until the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice. cornell: and we can tell you mrs. wrenn is recovering from her injurys. a-go fund me has raised $10,000 to hire a private security guard at her senior housing complex.

we learned that flames consumed 87 homes and 47 structures, including garages and commercial buildings have been destroyed. crews have found four bodies in the fire zone. the fire is 40% contained. at 94 square miles, it is the largest wildfire in california this year. that fire erupted on jewel 29 and grew rapidly fueled by winds and thunderstorms. meantime, crews have the upper hand on wildfire burning near yosemite. three injuries have been in connection with this fire that burned 93 structures. the so-called oak fire is 92% contained. that fire has been burning since july 22. >> just ahead, a water warning in the east bay, and an unusual watercolor in parts of lake her rhett alerted the city of oakland that something is wrong. >> a festival celebrating
