school monday for many people in this district. last time i spoke with oakland unified, they said they were looking to fill 40-50 positions and they are still looking to fill those positions and school is starting today. they will continue but it is been really difficult for them to find teachers and they are not alone. other districts are having the same issue. this is leading to a competitive application pool of trying to hire teachers. ousd has made many efforts to hire teachers and they are asking people to apply at the district and oakland unified says they will start paying teachers credentials and assessment fees for the upcoming school year. they say they have around 500 teacher vacancies annually. many applicants have an out-of-state license so they are not the only district that was

problem. this is a difficult time for them. they say the pandemic is fueling a lot of this and they will continue these efforts to hire teachers as soon as they can most live in oakland. reggie: cleanup efforts are happening across the country after multiple extreme weather events driven by climate change. president biden is traveling to kentucky to meet with families devastated by flash floods and a death valley, 1000 people were stranded over the week end after unprecedented rain. jobyna: death valley had almost a year's worth of rain in three hours. it's a once in a 1000 year event. it caused a massive flooding and washed out roads and services inside the national park. roads are still closed today. >> it sounded like the world was ending in this rushing water in

a place that's absolutely bone dry stuff jobyna: 3.5 inches of rain in atlanta fell in six hours and similar problems in brooklyn, arkansas. they will visit with the families are left loved ones in the historic storms on this is the second time president biden will visit kentucky after a deadly weather event. kumasi: the mckinney fire is the biggest fire in the state, bring more than 60,000 acres. more people have died since the fire started july 29 and at least 87 homes and dozens of other buildings have been destroyed. it's 40% contained and the crews have been struggling because of weather conditions including wind and thunderstorms. 20 miles west of that, firefighters say they are making

progress on slowing down the yeti fire started by lightning. it broke out the same day and fire officials say it's contained and it's burned about 8000 acres. the oak fire near yosemite is close to full containment. that has burned more than 19,000 acres and wiped out 193 structures and most of those are people's homes. is been burning for more than two weeks and it's considered to be by some the most destructive wildfire in the state this year. washburn fire was fully contained at the end of july. reggie: san leandro police are looking into a crash that created this damage to a furniture store. a car smashed into the window. it's not clear if anyone was hurt but there is a lot of broken glass and the impact of the crash left a streetlight sticking out of the store.

we don't know what caused the crash or if the driver will be charged. kumasi: san francisco general hospital says it will reopen its monkeypox vaccination clinic tomorrow. the city received 10,000 doses of vaccine from the federal supply and that's double the previous allotment. it will hold a walking vaccination clinic from 8 a.m.-noon tomorrow through friday. kaiser will also provide doses but appointments are required. reggie: activists are demanding more action to slow the spread of monkeypox. there are protest in san francisco to advocate more treatment. local and federal emergency declarations are just the first step. i also want officials to look at longer-term needs like increasing vaccine production. the protests will be outside the health and human services offices at the san francisco federal building at 4:30 p.m. we have everything you need to know about monkey box on her
